Every time images of the actual city around the CHAZ come out part of me dies inside.
It's so easy to laugh at the cows when all you see is their spats. When they're just hurting themselves. But when you see the city... Not so much.
You know. It's easy to point some things out. For instance. Fun fact. You might have noticed that while most protests march through the streets. They almost always end in a park. There's good reason for that, you see, most protest organizers AREN'T STUPID INSUFERABLE ASSHOLES! The march is a show of numbers. A way to make people aware of just how large the issue has become. And if you don't have enough numbers it's better to just stick to the building you're protesting. But aside from that. Once the march ends, what's left is a temporary assembly, with chats reunions and shit for a few hours. You see. This assembly isn't a showcase. This assembly is made not for the public, but for the protestors. It's a way to ensure if they have more specific issues they can be talked about, that if they are questioned on the issue they know what they're talking about, that if you can help them solve specific issues (for example on the protests following mass firings there's always some that need help due to economy and familiar issues) can find at least some kinda patch through your organization and the solidarity of other protestors, and basically, the point is to paliate the issue you know, 'cause if people are protesting en masse chances are they need some help, and if the orgs managing the protest don't help that'd be massively hypocritical.
Point is, because this assemblies are an internal issue, it is understood that parks and similar areas, where the protest doesn't cause unnecessary obstructions, are the best way to place them. You know, because you want the citizens on your side. You want them to understand that you are doing as much as you can to help and diminishing the side effects as much as possible. As such, it is alarming to me, someone who understands this, why when having a football field and park for them, they would choose to have them on a cross between two large streets.
Furthermore. The barricades are just... they're just awful. I mean, at least they're easy to dodge and the area is heavily peatonal anyway. But as much as they make me ja ja like everyone else... Man I sure am glad no ambulances will be needed in CHAZ anytime soon. And the locals won't ever need them either. Accidents don't happen in CHAZ!
And the grafitti and damage to buildings. Just. I'm still salty AF whenever I see that. This is abhorrent. Hurt yourselves as much as you want. Buildings are innocent, leave them alone.
