This is heart-breaking. Part of me thinks the ambulance people should disregard orders, go in, try to help the victim. In fact, that's my instinct so I get where this guy's coming from. But at the same time this is an area with active shooting going on and they have no police protection. So the sad logic of them not going in there makes sense. Probably the police should go in there and clear people out. There shouldn't be areas of the city where the police can't go. But if that is the situation that has come about it's not on the ambulance people to jeopardize their own lives going in. Frankly, just very sad. Unfair to say they weren't going in because the victim was Black.

Agreed. I guess this is what these people wanted though. They've said time and time again to get rid of the police and some have even suggested killing cops.

ISIS and Al-Qaeda would attack a location in two waves. There would be the initial strike, then a subsequent strike after first responders appeared on scene. The goal was to cripple first response and kill talented, knowledgeable individuals. When you've got people in this so-called autonomous zone claiming they want to eradicate the police, you really can't expect first responders to take any chances. Maybe if these groups that are causing chaos in the streets had a better plan and thought about the rhetoric they use, maybe this would not have had to end this way. Unfortunately they are not thinking beyond the next looted shop or beat-down on a cripple.

Correction, apparently, it wasn't a rifle. A witness who was there said it was a 10mm Auto. Probably a Glock 20. They do have a very odd report and sound somewhat rifle-like.

Reposting my comment rather than retyping:

I had CPR training from a retired EMT. He told us a story about how he got a call that there was a heart attack and he and the crew rolled out to deal with it. When he got there and entered the home to deal with the heart attack, another person in the house tried to rob him assuming he had the good drugs to steal (they didn't even carry narcotics in the ambulance due to previous issues like this). He had to smack the guy over the head with the oxygen canister he was carrying to avoid getting punched. Then had to have others do first aid on that asshole while he dealt with the guy with a heart attack.

After that, that neighborhood joined the list of "do not enter residences without police cover".

So yeah, EMTs are not going to die to treat a bunch of assholes.

People do this all the time though. The majority of healthcare is dealing with people’s stupid choices and moving into an anarcho paradise is a pretty fucking stupid choice. Maybe this will help them realize what the consequence of being “autonomous” is.

Well its not really their call. It's standard policy for most EMS/FD departments. They stage outside the scene and wait for PD to secure the area. It could be something as big as CHOP or something as small as a domestic husband/wife dispute. Or a single individual with altered mental status.
Around here if the call sounds like it might be an OD situation they wont even go in with out the cops going through the door 1st and then giving the all clear.
