The cuts she will propose would come from “across-the-board reductions on patrols and other operations” and “entirely” eliminating the SPD Navigation Team responsible for clearing homeless encampments.
lol for days. Anyone in Seattle will tell you that the homeless situations is bad, really really bad, and the encampments already know
how to milk the lenient system for maximum lulz. Theyre given autonomy in their camps, drug use and assaults, and when a neighborhood finally gets attention there has to be notice posted at least 72 hours in advance of a clear out, so campers and homeless just kind of dissappear for a bit and wait for their sites to get cleaned up at city expense and then they just move right back in usually an hour or two later. Under all the highways, I5, 99, 520, even in some of the nicest parts of the city, like Portage Bay and Montlake and the Arboretum and Interlaken have these problems. The homeless people love it because they can just roam around residential neghiborhoods at night trying car doors and peeking in garages for shit to steal and trade for drugs. I've posted previously about the Seattle Center homeless mansion, and theres lots of info out there about the problems in The Jungle and Nickelsville and even just a simple drive up I5 will show rows of tents and makeshift communities. It's really bad and Sawant is going to make it so so so much worse.
