Private security, hired by Seattle parks after police cleared Cal Anderson, chased away on first night

Seattle Parks hired a private security firm to patrol Cal Anderson Park to remind people that the park remains closed. The security firm sent three guards who immediately got chased out by people wielding poles and sticks.

Only full-service supermarket in Downtown Seattle closes, citing problems in city

Kress IGA, the only supermarket downtown, has closed, citing "economic, social, and political issues associated with doing business in the city of Seattle" as the reason for closing. Cue the whining about food deserts.

Meanwhile, at UW, some graffiti appeared. No word on whether the artist is a UW student.

those poor security guards. Who the hell though 3 would be enough?

I am surprised there is only one full service grocery store in a down town area, but then I remember its Seattle and its history of riots. Proof food deserts are not racist.

Of all the things you could criticize Gates for with how he ran MS, you had to pick a non issue (as far as Gates), and you can't even do it correctly. The school should kick out what ever students did this for the murder of English.

Oh @stupidpieceofshit please shed no tears for the private security on Capitol Hill. They believe their job is to keep an eye on the cops while they also protect property, they purposefully carry no weopons to save money on insurance and they think they're also medics. The owner of the security company in that article is so mind-numbingly dumb I couldn't even read through it to mock him.

Downtown SEattle is all office skyscrapers, nobody lives there except street bums. In Capitol Hill within walking distance of CHAZ there are two QFC, a Safeway, a new Whole Foods, and lots of conveneince stores. Downtown is only busy monday through friday from 8 to 5, otherwise it's more deserted than a zombie movie, even before coronachan. I'm shocked the grocery store down there didn't close before this.

"Nobody lives there" is a bit of exaggeration, there are some high-rise apartments in the downtown area, but you're right that it is pretty generally just a business district. A friend of mine used to live in one of those apartments and would shop at the Kress that closed. The fact it took current-day Seattle to get them to close is amazing based on the horror stories he told me from his shopping trips.

Even fucking Detroit has supermarkets. Good job degenerating into a Mogadishu level shithole in a mere couple months.

I was expecting more min wage 18 year old mall rent a cops style security, but I also can't find any info on Iron and Oak.

Shit, they do. I never looked in to it, but there was big fan fair when Meijer (A great lakes Midwest region chain) announced they are going to be opening a store there soon and articles even (falsely it turns out) that Detroit is a food desert, but then again it looks like the current stores are small time/mom and pops so who knows about quality/fresh food.

I've noticed this being fairly typical in a number of large cities I've been to. San Jose has one grocery store downtown, San Francisco has 0-2 (depending on where you exactly delineate downtown and whether you count Trader Joe's as a full grocery store), Sacramento doesn't have any. Though in all those cases, there are grocery stores just a short trip from downtown, and, as you mentioned about Seattle, not very many people actually live downtown anyway, so it sounds worse than it is.

It's a hard sell in most downtown areas to open a grocery store for the reasons you mention, but what pisses me off about Kress closing is that it used to be the objective of the city of Seattle to try to revitalize downtown, especially the 3rd Ave corridor that's been dead since the bus tunnel dig disrupted business there 30 years ago. Kress opened about 15 years ago, and I assume the city promised them to try to keep the lowlifes at bay, which I assume Walgreens, Target, and other businesses were told when they opened new stores/revitalized old ones.

But the "woke" city council has decided that doesn't matter anymore, and downtown has been deliberately allowed to decline for about five years (at least that's when I started noticing how much worse it's been getting). COVID and the riots are probably just the last straw.

It's gotten so bad that Duff McKagan, who's hardly a delicate flower, wrote an op-ed about how scary downtown is.

Mayor Durkan, I implore you

I am a lifelong Seattleite. I have a history of drug and alcohol abuse, but I have been clean and sober for 25 years. I got with the Union Gospel Mission, and have visited “the jungle” and talked to the homeless on a few occasions, and am aware of the different hot spots in the city for different drugs and crimes.

I’ve spent the last 35 years traveling the planet, and have become a student of how different cities operate and change over time.

Two years ago, my band Guns N’ Roses played in Seattle. One of our security staff took a walk to the health and nutrition store GNC downtown from our hotel, and came back shaken up. In all of his travels — and we go to some pretty “bad” cities, crime-wise — he’d never seen anything like downtown Seattle. And this particular individual is a large and very physically able man who served in the U.S. Army Special Forces. I was crestfallen.

Seattle is the only city in the world that I take a knife with me downtown when I go to my gym, or take my family to the theater or dinner.

Something has to be done here. This is enough! More police. No open drug zone. I implore Mayor Jenny Durkan to make Seattle’s downtown a place of safety.

Seattle is my city, and it’s gotten way past the point of being scary.

I don't know much about Guns N' Roses, except that they seem the "scuzzy" types who would enjoy Roadhouse bars and what not, so this letter disturbs me.

If Mike Ness said "Seattle is a shithole" then I would advocate to nuke Seattle

Begging the question: Actual illiterate dindu, or white leftist impersonating one of the black brethren they're fighting so hard on behalf of and assuming all of them are illiterate?
It is likely a white university student since mostly white liberals complain about colonizing or something related to that. Also the guy for some reason put a S before deciding to say fund. My guess is that he wanted to say support before deciding to say fund.

They are a rich old boomer band that likely doesn't go anywhere with out massive security. Last time they saw a shitty old roadhouse was 40 years ago when they where just drunk whites getting in to fist fights.

Bill Gates Sifuns Prion Labor.
Paul Allen Is A Coloizer.

I kind of love these statements. Bill Gates totally does exploit prions in his vaccines to spread worse disease. Paul Allen probably was into fucking Coloi.

Basted.

This is up in Ballard. Maybe they've figured out that the State Patrol isn't tolerating disruptions on the freeway anymore, so they're switching tactics to blocking major city streets. Previously they've been mostly confining their shenanigans to the downtown, Capitol Hill and Central District areas, plus the sorties out to Durkan's and Best's houses. Unless I'm missing some previous action there, this is new for them.

Talk about an endangered species.
There's a bunch of us, look up what our city council meetings look like sometime. There's just also a huge group of checked out political normies who don't vote in any of the local elections, they only vote when they can pick the president. Turnout was ~45% in the 2019 election IIRC, where a bunch of these chucklefucks got reelected. Meanwhile >75% showed up in 2016. I'm really not sure where the normies are at after this summer.

Non-far-left Seattleites getting pretty fed up.
