I didn't see a discussion thread for this batshit insane documentary from the makers of Tiger King so I thought I'd make one. The documentary is about Tonka, a former Hollywood chimp and Tonia Haddix, an exotic animal broker who's obsessed with chimps. Watching this is surreal--to see the other side of animal abuse? Where someone loves something too much and is so delusional they don't realize their love for a wild animal is bringing it pain and suffering.

Tonia has a pretty creepy obsession with Tonka--honestly to the point of zoophilic undertones in a lot of scenes. The good news is this chimp did end up being rescued and is now in an accredited sanctuary and receiving help. Weirdest part of the documentary is that PETA of all people seemed sane. They're probably happy with how much good press this documentary is giving them. Still don't like PETA though.

They cover Travis in this documentary as well. Connecticut is so fucking weird. Not surprised Adam Lanza was obsessed with Travis.

I remember that crazy chimp lady. She slept in the cage with Travis. I feel kind of bad for her because her daughter and husband died and Travis was all she had. But chimps are not pets. He was taken from his mother at three days old and sold for $50,000. How do you take a newborn animal from its mother like that and pay for it like you are buying a new car and live with yourself?

Chimps are not pets. Primates should never be kept as pets.

Agreed. I don't like seeing any monkey being kept as a pet especially with the million pity stuff going around. Some exotics like a bearded dragon or a corn snake you can ethically keep in captivity but a big cat? A primate? Other dangerous animals it's just inhumane. And it saddens me knowing profit is what drives legislature and leads to all these loopholes so people can continue to breed these poor animals in captivity.
Not a primate but hearing about the intelligence of Orcas and how they've been abused for generations at Sea World broke my heart.

How do you make me root for a detestable, fat, utterly moronic, lying, plastic-faced, debatably animal abusing piece of shit? Put her up against a bunch of PETA mega-jews who are even more insufferable than she is. I wound up hating literally everyone involved, including the film crew.

That being said, it's definitely an enjoyable watch (and that's coming from someone who didn't make it through Tiger King).

The first 10 minutes is absolute kino, with (just off the top of my head)

- The usual panopoly of white trash idoots you'd expect
- A woman saying she loves her chimps more than her kids
- a chimp niggering out while watching the opening scene to 2001
- a woman talking about breastfeeding her chimp
- A guy whose face is all fucked up because his nose was bitten off by a chimp

I like that one of the answers to the poll is just "Monkey".

I think that for animal abuse that can be proven, there should be severe punishment, life changing punishment. Don't see any reason why it shouldn't be this way: you willingly get a pet, you then abuse or neglect it to the point where it's abuse, why should this person not face heavy repercussions?

If the offense is too egregious, like someone filming themselves torturing an animal, then maximum penalty could be an option, and I see no reasonable defense for it being otherwise. Getting rid of these people is not a loss.

Trust me I still don't like PETA at all but this movie is going to be really good PR for them so I'm not at all shocked they got involved. You make a good point about the film crew too? Sitting on information that just prolonged Tonka's suffering. I haven't really seen many people point that out before.

Actually, quite the opposite. They're a documentary crew, they're not supposed to get involved or affect the outcome. Especially after going to a (surprise surprise, another jew) neo-journalist for "advice."

Granted it did lead to a good scene with Tonia having to come up with some harebrained lie about how
she was saying they were going to euthanize Tonka so that PETA would think he was dead, or something hilariously retarded like that

Now we need the director to focus on the guy who helped with the ashes.
It's still a little insane to me, just, how many beans all these people spilled to a person they thought was a documentarian director (just not the tiger king director, they all hate that guy). If this somehow ends up in the courts, can they just play the last episode and call it a day? Unfortunate PETA W?

She would drug it then sleep in bed with it. Lady was insane. It's rampage all started when one of her friends came over who had been around the chimp before. But that woman had come from the hair salon and changed her looks to the point that Travis didn't recognize her. And so he just mauled her and starting eating her while his own was trying to kill him by stabbing him with a knife.

Probably has the all time weirdest 911 calls associated with it as well. Where the 911 operators are trying to process lines such as "my pet chimp is eating my friend....oh my god....he's eating her".

Gorillas > little monkey > lemur > other monkey-like animal > dog shit > cat shit > Chimps

Chimps are just kinda assholes and the world would be better off if they ate Jane Goodall and died of her AIDS strain.

Jesus Christ those first five minutes. Bitch basically admits she wants the chimp because he'll never betray her and she talks on how amazing it is while its barred with a fucking steel lock. I don't want to spoiler myself about her background, but she's textbook "mom who will put her son in a steel cage and be uncomfortably close to him".

Fucking screamed internally when they gave the baby to a midsized chimp.

What's weirder is she doesn't seem to care about her actual kids. She even says in an interview she cares more about Chimps than them. Guess she sees Chimps as something easier to control than her own kids.

It's like the intersection of two common female mental illnesses:
* Overbearing controlling mother that wants to imprison her son to protect him from whores. Sometimes ends with the mother fucking the son.
* Savage worship who uses a connection with someone powerful to cover up perceived lack of power. Usually ends with the women getting beat up badly by the person.

The intersection of the two is usually a woman adopting a 14 year old ghetto youth, but a chimp has the exotic nature.

Jesus I hate to have to agree but you're right. It's like a BPD cocktail lit on fire.
I'm wondering if I should cross post this disccussion into another thread but which one? My first thought is million pity but I'm not sure if monkey lovers fit that and could be seen as off topic.

Okay finished the first episode. It has great parallels with Tiger King with how you have a more likable white trash on one side, and absolutely detestable other side. Though this time the rednecks are women and the other side is super faggot who talks about how a woman working years for the chimps "didn't spend half a mil", while being inside his 10M$ gay apartment. Ditto "we only want to make changes" with the changes being so insanely costly they are made specifically to bankrupt the target rather than use the court for an actual end.

I never dared to look there, but Monkey (or any non vermin) Haters are pure psychos. While Monkey Lovers are at least somewhat understandable as flawed human beings who either took obsession too far or had bad life to connect too hard to pets that can easily kill them

I guess I bring them up because to me the monkey lovers like Haddix aren't much better than the torturers. They know the chimps they're getting as pets were ripped out of the wild and sold illegally. The exotic animal owners have such an ego thinking they know what's best.

I think I liked this doc better than Tiger King ngl. Felt like it had more facts, less speculation.
