You know, I don't think Chris ever had a real friend in his life other than the possible exception of Megan, and we all know how that turned out

I don't think he could stand to be my friend. I can't pretend to be interested in Skylanders and Sonic for long periods of time. I couldn't blindly say "Uh huh. Yup" as he complained about everyone else being at fault for some of his problems. Sooner or later I'd suggest he stop using social and dating sites entirely and just concentrate on finding new local places to hangout at that involve one of his interests. He'd probably say he'd think about it then go right back to the rant without skipping a beat.

That's what I consider to be proof that people like Anna are not true friends to Chris. A true friend is a person who would tell Chris things he needs to hear, but not things he wants to hear, and sooner or later Chris would reject that person because they threatened his rosy fantasy of what he wants the world to be, and then he'd be alone just like before he met the person. A true friend is like a super-heavy element - unstable and temporary by definition.
