I wonder how much of those books did he actually read? There is a shit-ton of those.

Could it be that Chris did read just a couple of those books only, and just to appear literate?

That I wonder too. Though that would explain why he sounds like a two year old with food in his mouth all the time.

That being said, I too was raised on those books. I remember my favorites were the "Masked Horror", "Shock Street" and "Egg Monsters" volumes and I believe I still have my copy of the "One Day in Horrorland" volume.

Unlike Chris however, my interests changed, and I grew out of them after I finished middle (junior high where I live) school.

It's the literary equivalent of McDonalds', and I just do not understand how he can't see how pathetic this is.

You sound upset over this. A majority of people don't read as a hobby these days. That's that.

Ya know something, brother? A book Chris could stand to read is:

Chris just isn't a well-read person. I think the last time he probably finished a book that can be classified as being for adults, or young adults was probably in high-school for an assignment. With Chris' infamous take on the English language (his cwcisms), it would be extremely difficult for him to sit down, read, and understand something like Oscar Wilde, Mark Twain, or James Joyce, let alone something like Shakespeare or Chaucer.

Oscar Wilde and Shakespeare and Mark Twain aren't even in the same stratosphere as James Joyce.

James Joyce is awful, awful, awful. It's classic "I have no idea what this guy is trying to say but I don't want to seem like an idiot so I'll just say it's brilliant, and then everyone else after me won't get it and they won't want to seem stupid either so they'll also say it's brilliant."

I'm a year younger than Chris and I remember when "Goosebumps" were all the rage. I was into them too. Due to his autism he'll pretty much always like the same shit all his life.

It's hilarious when people A-log about Chris not reading any ultra-hip sophisticated literature.

Horror anthology was the number 1 greatest influence on me as a child (Power Rangers was number 2), but Goosebumps was just shit.

Someone needs to photoshop Goosebumps titles to Chris-related things. Like, 14 Branchland Court to "WELCOME TO DEAD HOUSE" and Chris eating a pizza to "THE BLOB THAT ATE EVERYTHING."

Compared to many, many other faults I don't see what's so bad. I mean, I think "still shits self" might be a more pressing issue.

Now I remember how much I used to read... and Goosebumps at that. Kinda lost interest by, like, 13 or 14 though but for what they're worth, many of those kinds of books at least had sorta interesting ideas in places.

I had a massive Goosebumps collection as a kid even got a signed collectors edition of one of the books that screamed when you opened it up but I gave most of them to charity when my parents moved house because while they were awesome books as a kid to read and help improve my reading ability I couldn't justify holding onto the collection as a grown man and my tastes have long since changed.

It's funny he throws around the 'high functioning autistic' card around so much but sits playing with Lego and reading Goosebumps like a 10 year old, there was a dude when I was studying Engineering who was special needs like rain man who was better than all of us at Quantum Mechanics and would sit reading books like that and on the Universe he was obsessed with Morrowind and Halo though.

CWC today comes across as a low functioning autistic to me like he expresses his creativity in the lowest laziest forms possible or not at all :heart-empty: .

I'd take classic era CWC over this one any day at least then he showed some aptitude of creativity, sure his comics and videos were shit but he sat down and showed some effort, planning skills and actually created things that were kind of entertaining. :sonichu:

Dammit Brad, I'm at work and don't have the tools necessary, but this is a task I would happily take on otherwise.

The terribad sequels to Night Of The Loving Dummy, Monster Blood and Haunted Mask were god awful in hindsight lol.

Chris reading finnegans wake.

This is not as impossible as you might think.
Sane, intelligent people have difficulty with that book because they consciously try to parse, unpack and comprehend a book that is essentially an unending stream of JAJisms. Who knows if CWC isn't some kinda savant who can decrypt that book on the fly using 'spergtuition.

Ponder the plotline of Sonichu.
Ponder the stream of psychotic, dreamlike unconciousnesslessness that CWC effortlessly evokes.
Joyce had to carefully build that one syllable at a time over the space of 17+ years
CWC did by accident, with less than the least amount of effort, in real time, while simultaneously devoting his actual attention to thoughts of microwaved burgers and furry porn.

Truly CWC is the Alpha 'Sperg.

Then it IS in the same stratosphere as Shakespeare and Twain :ween:

In response to a few folks, I'm not new here, and I don't find it the worst aspect of Chris' personality by far, just thought it might be fun to discuss and didn't see a thread for it. I do, in some ways, find it upsetting I guess, maybe because books have been such a formative part of my life and the lives of my family and friends. I honestly can't picture reading the same books throughout my life, especially when they're such pallid, cookie-cutter examples of literature. I did love Goosebumps at like 11 or 12, and the Fear Street books too, but then I grew up. I think it's just WEIRD to me that he'd read books like this, and never even consider moving on to more adult literature. Sure, some of the point is (for Chris) they are so formulaic and easy to understand, but fuck, so's John Saul, and he'd at least get some decent gore (the "Saw" movies, anyone?) and the possibility of sex scenes, which you'd think for Chris would be a big plus.

Also, I find it weird that Chris has enough of a sense that Goosebumps is not acceptable reading material for adults to lie about it in the Father Call, but still lists it on his OKCupid profile, where he is presumably trying to impress women.
