Do a film about a new and totally different subject. You don't learn by going backwards and re-doing. You learn by moving forward and trying new things.

In my opinion, Chris's high school and CWCville fantasies should be covered because they're such a HUGE part of his life. Chris has an unusual (and IMO unhealthy) nostalgia for his HS glory days and CWCville is the happy place he retreats to when life gives him "prickly wicklies".

The way Chris administers CWCville is very interesting as well and reveals a lot about his psyche. (Comparisons to N. Korea really aren't that far off the mark.) I don't know how in-depth you should go here though, since you're trying to maintain a neutral / impartial tone.

This is also subject matter that I think a lot of your viewers would consider interesting, especially from a psychological perspective.

Anyway, I really enjoyed your documentary and I thought you did a great job. Just my .02.
Yes, I think most of the stories and events are covered decently, with a few bad telling here and there. But the whole psychology part of it I ignored. I was going to interview the school psychologist but I ran out of time. So maybe she could help with the next.

The past is the past the present is now. I got over my movie a week after launch, I am not one to hold onto things. I just care a lot about how it turns out and I cant live with myself if something with my name on it turns out in a way that is not up to my ever slowly rising standards. But at the time the movie was up to par at least for me. Now I see how I could improve on it.

Who said I'd even go along? Nothing against the project, but I've pretty much said all I have to say already.
Thank you for your honesty.

Speaking of Radiohead and Chris, you could do a cover of "Creep" for the Love Quest segments.
Any chance of getting Chris to sing "Creep"? An a capella version of the song done by Chris would make for an amazing trailer to the doc.

Even with this version.

I think that the full version of "You Are My Sunshine" could be used for this in some way, seeing as how its so fucking dark and stalkery. Like, if it focuses more on his love quest.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know dear how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

The other night dear, as I lay sleeping,
I dreamed I held you in my arms.
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken,
And I hung my head and cried.

I'll always love you and make you happy,
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me to love another,
You'll regret it all some day.

You told me once dear, you really loved me
and no one else could come between
but now youve left me and love another,
you have shattered all my dreams

This is golden.

Your attitude here reminds me of George Lucas. You're obviously going to go ahead with this, but just keep this quote from the master of bullshitting in mind: "films are never finished, just abandoned." I say your doc was great, and more than enough, considering the subject matter, and I think it would be better for you to move on to other things, rather than wasting your time trying to curry favor with the posters here. You've got skills and the potential to use them, man.

Can't say much if the Chris-Chan documentary needs a sequel. I can say, as anyone else already has, that some incorrect points would need to be fixed along with some more light shed on some of the sagas that were. If you are going to expand more on Chris, look more into things such as how he was in public where he gotten banned at most places with a police hog-tied encounter at Target and such.

As much as the posters support means a lot to me, I was basically finished with the movie by the time I made my first post. And I have a lot of time as a student left so I have time to make this.

Nice! It reminds me of this version:

I think that if you're going to redo your film, you should concentrate on the major, formative events in Chris's life:
  1. The Green County School Board Incident
  2. God and The Bear
  3. Sonichu
  4. The Lovequest
  5. Tomgirl / Chris Tran
Once these subjects have been covered, I'd add material from the sagas, etc. as you see fit. The Sonic Watch and Win Sweepstakes would probably be a good inclusion as well, but it's not as influential as the events I've listed.

The events I've listed are, I believe, what shaped Chris and made him what he is today, and I believe that a discussion of them would be essential to a comprehensive documentary.

Note: I'm not certain which came first, The Green County School Board Incident or God and The Bear.

Um - the whole "saga" stuff is more about the trolls than CWC. The main community from those days (PVCC) still exist online and are probably not too hard to get a blurb from though most, if not all, have moved on and have regrets.

I think a compelling angle is an in-depth analysis of the Sonichu comics. There is so much there. Look into the Sonichu section, talk to "Blank". Framing the strangeness of Chris with respect to his art is a good story. You could do a Master's thesis on Sonichu 10 alone.

Either way - this is your thing. I'm a big documentary fan. I can see the CWC story as an artistic exploration, much like Feuerzeig's "Devil and Daniel Johnston". As fucked up and insane as they are , the Sonichu comics are 100% Chris. Most of the videos from 2008-2009 were produced by trolls and merely starring Chris.

If you ever get an interview with Chris (which is massively problematic but not impossible), I would focus on Sonichu, the derivative works and art that it inspired and what Chris had planned for Sonichu 11 before closing shop. He's a living Henry Darger. The troll sagas are are a humorous side note at best.

Green county came first, and I agree that those are the key events.

the Jace documentary someone had was actually a great idea. lolcow docs could be your niche. You could read the forums, learn about some new subjects, make some documentaries on other cows. I wouldn't mind swing a Nick Bate documentary myself.

Don't get me wrong, I would still love a cwc sequel, but this could be an idea for practicing making documentaries if you're serious about this and would eventually like to make a career of it. I don't know if that's your goal, but you certainly have a talent for it.

Where exactly would you start with the Tomgirl saga? When exactly did that twig snap?

The thing is, there is so much information cataloged about Chris. And he's an Internet phenomenon still going strong after a grand number of years. Jace and Nick Bate are flashes in the pan.

How about a behind the scenes feature on the making of this project, "How Chris Chan got me an A?"
