Chris Chan Documentary 2 (Sequel)

All right, Spylobster, you've clearly shown that you're interested in making a documentary--you've done it, and done a decent job at it.

Think of this as some feedback on your plan to create a sequel:

1. Chris is an unreliable narrator. Using his "Confession" as his point of view and the truth is interesting viewing, but it's not particularly accurate. Chris' recounting of 10/28/11 and 12/26/14 is wildly different than the consensus of what people think happened.
A. This means that Chris' own point of view is, at best, very biased. Chris can be counted upon NOT to admit to criminal acts or his own great failures as a person, and lesser deeds might be concealed or otherwise distorted.
B. Contacting Chris is hard to do. The guy gets weened by Julay calls and worse frequently--and since you happen to be Male, he perceives that he has little interest in dealing with you.
C. Not that its likely to come up, but there are a few legal concerns to consider. I'm not sure whether a ween or someone could potentially do much with 10/28/11, given how Michael Snyder probably wants to be done with it, but Chris is facing trial over 12/26/14. I would advise very strongly to do no outreach on this matter, as you could find yourself peripherally in a legal case.
2. Marvin, Thetan and Alec Benson Leary don't want to be interviewed.
A. However, much of their actions and behavior are chronicled on the CWCki. It's not going to follow the same pacing, and you'll have to work a bit harder to make a film out of it, but communications and a few of Chris' responses are available online.
3. This Forum is an interesting place.
A. I'm not going to deny that we can be an irritating bunch at times. The sort of thing we're into doesn't make itself as a field for people with thin skin or sensitive feelings: There are a few trolls who wind up utterly humiliated themselves, and many posters that have wound up putting their foot in their mouth.
B. That said, as in any large group of people, you can find a consensus. People will debate whether Chris will get jail time for 12/26/14, but no one things Chris should be unpunished for it. I'd take a good listen to what everyone seems to be saying, as opposed to the loudest guy.
4. Ultimately, no one gives you permission to do this--you do it on your own.
A. No one is going to stop you from making a documentary as you see fit.
B. It doesn't mean that people are going to see you as a valued contributor, however.
5. So, you've got the source material, the ability to make a follow up, and don't need anyone else to give you asspats to get it done.
A. You'll still need to figure out the What and the How your follow up will work.
B. Morale and commitment is a big part of what you do. If you're not motivated, you're not working--if your morale is suffering for hanging out here, maybe coming back with a finished project in a couple months would be better.
C. As long as you have a vision and are working towards it, you'll make it happen.

I would much rather see a documentary from Chris's point of view than I would one that is fair and objective. Chris is a lot more entertaining on his own than people's commentary about him.

Maybe in virtual reality, but don't expect it anytime soon.
 
Suggestion for background music: I've recently been listening to Imagine Dragons, (They just released a new album) and one of the songs they've released is I Bet My Life. And the lyrics seemed to remind me 0f Chris's relationships, especially between him and Meghan. Possible background music for the part of the video covering that part of Chris's life?

I watched your documentary, and I'm really impressed how well this turned out.

Your teacher criticized your intro, but I thought it was fine. The tard rage video and pepper spray incident actually give a pretty good preview of what this is going to be about. You blurred a lot of ecchi stuff, and I don't think there's anything more that could reasonably be censored.

The history was well presented. I liked how you explained how his high school years were some of his best. I think you could have expanded on this more, and explained why Chris was so obsessed with his high school reunion, the high school in Equestria Girls, and his lego high school building.

The picture of the destroyed medallion in the pickle jar didn't explain what pickles symbolize to Chris. "China" was explained, but not pickle. I think overall you summarize the history very well, but not the results of those experiences, or what it meant to Chris.

I thought your ending was rather weak. The statistics got really long-winded, and it seemed like you were blaming the trolls for ruining his life. Trolls did prod him to do some embarassing things, but the things that really ruined his life (eg criminal charges) were entirely Chris's own doing. Nobody told him to do that stuff.
 
I really, really can't wait for your next documentary on Chris. I'll make sure I have a good amount of popcorn for it.

its copy righted, you can get away with a decent amount of video. But not music.

I really, really can't wait for your next documentary on Chris. I'll make sure I have a good amount of popcorn for it.
Well your going to have to wait a long time for that popcorn.
 
When do you think you'll being working on it if you haven't already started?
I am focusing on fitness right now because during the making of the original I really forgot to do a lot of things. I have no plans set in place but for now I am just collecting my thoughts learning a little after effects. And just giving my self time think. I will have a lot of free time in the summer. Due to road trips and stuff.
 
I would like to see a documentary expansion of that Inside the Pickle Suit the Cwcki did back in the day. Maybe interview some of the sweethearts, or ABL, or Liquid, or Clyde Cash, or whoever would be willing to participate? I wonder what would happen if you reached out to Anna, making it clear that you are trying to be neutral. Interviewing somebody who is part of Chris's world would be really cool.

Lots of us will be waiting with baited breath for your next CWC documentary; probably because of a combination of your filmmaking skills, Chris' intruiging hedonistic self and crippling bouts of Asperger's. But mostly 'cause it's Chris and we're starving here.

2) The last few pages of this thread are GOLD. The drama mixed with all the great @Holdek posts has been memorable, as far as lurking goes.

Longtime CWC fan, new poster. I've watched the documentary a half dozen times, and I fully support the idea of a more in-depth sequel that explores more sagas and explains more of the characters of Christory (Pickle-Suit Man, real/fake sweethearts, etc.).
 
In order to put out content quicker and make it easier on yourself you could do the next project in separate episodes.
 
@spylobster I think I agree with another poster who said that people around here reach "saturation point" pretty quickly. New Chris content comes so infrequently now that sometimes it feels as though everyone is desperate for any meagre morsel when the reality is that I think most people would far prefer something real/substantial. My advice would probably be to continue with your project if you still feel inspired to do so but refrain from actively posting about it, instead taking comments/criticism from IRL friends/mentors on your general editing style INDEPENDENT of anything you say about Chris.

If you're hoping for sooper seekrit content from the Inner Circle to supplement what everyone else has, I would say the chances of that are zero. Instead, take what's out there, sift through it carefully, organise it - as you have - and put together something that's lean and says something. Then in six months or a year, quietly put the "sequel" out and see what people think. Don't attention whore (not saying that you are), don't ween, just do what you do. You don't need us.
 
I haven't seen your first documentary yet, I think one of the important things a Chris-Chan documentary would have to do would be to estabilsh a distinction between Chris's reality and actual reality. Due to the way the CWCki articles are written and have been written in the past before edits, people have fallen for lies that Chris has fallen for. People have posted here thinking that Jackie was real and that the dox Chris threatened to drop in the Calling Out videos was real.
