What else does he have to do? He doesn't have a job, he doesn't have friends. He sits alone in his house with his mother all day, browsing the internet with the occasional trip to the big box stores to break the monotony. Stuff like this is the most interesting thing to happen to him all day when he discovered it. I mean we're talking about a man who went on a crusade against a pallet swap of a character for the better part of a year ending in criminal charges. He cares because there is literally nothing going on for him to take interest in.

When you have an individual make comics out of a recolor and also have the dreams to make games out of it, Sonichu will be the life achievement Chris has.
One can guess that Chris cares since this was pretty much the one thing he wrote his life story in as plots for it. As for the gotten better claim, the last few drawing he made such as the one involving a blue armed Sonic shows there isn't much change in his art style.
