looking at EVERYTHING the guy says...it seems strange, but it seems better to view him as more as an AI programmed to behave somewhat kind of like how a "typical cartoonist" might act. idk, something about this guy is so off he doesn't really even come across as a real person.

I noticed that too. It feels like he's trying too hard to sound both proffesional and "down" with the kids.

I read that blog and I really think they blew it out of proportion.

Do I agree with him? No.

Yet he draws at an industrial level. He shits out art. Drawing women with defined abs probably won't sell. That's something he probably acknowledges and the feminists probably fail to see.

Not sure what the "expiration date" is for topics on this site is. But I thought I should ask this:

What do you guys think of his non-Anime/"90s Comic Book" art? You know, the stuff that looks like second-rate Disney?

I'll have to see some images of this particular style before I make a judgement. Can you link us to some pictures?

I remember reading his "Cartoon Cool" book back in high school. I remember liking it back then, but now it just seems he was trying to cash in on the Dexter's lab/Powerpuff Girls/Fairly Oddparents style. Whilst I don't think it's great book to learn from, at least it's not one of those generic How To Draw Manga books. I wouldn't be suprised if he released a book on how to ape the Adventure Time style, as that's what everyone and their mothers pet goldfish seems to be drawing like nowadays.

The same as any other comic artist's attempt at sexy. Only crappier looking.

I find it hard to believe that all or most comic artists' works are sexist. I don't think sexy/revealing/etc per se is sexism though. Or is the content of Hart's books more than that?

Well considering that his seems to be on a more regular basis than any other artist. I'd say maybe at least five times per book at least. Usually more depending on how long it is.

So far, it doesn't sound sexist to me. Sexism to me is actually seeing one gender as inferior to the other, not just sexualization.

I personally don't use "how to draw" books anyway, I like to develop my own style. I keep it to myself for now, though. It possibly sucks.

Trust me, if it's anything like mine, you'd be better off holding onto it until you get better. Also, how did you learn? Did you take any classes, or are you self taught?

I believe he already did. I remember about six months ago I was at an art store picking up a new pen. On the aisle where they sell pens and pencils there is naturally a huge push to make an extra buck or twenty selling cartooning "sets" (literally just stuff like the multi-pack of varied pencils and pens with a cartoon character slapped on it) and how-to books. And in the most prominent spot for the how-to books was a Chris Hart how-to featuring obvious Adventure Time style characters all over the cover. Unless he just rereleased an existing book with a new cover he's already got that fad covered.

I just remembered that one time he released a book called "How to draw Manhwa" (Korean comics) and if I remember it right, he might have copied a character from Ragnarok Online and changed a few colors. During that time, I sort of assumed that his books were "ghost drawn".

Is this guy really a lolcow? Plenty of manga worse than his gets published, and he doesn't microwave poop.

(Those are my criteria I guess)

I think his reaction to critisim is what pushes him into lolcow territory. He gets extremely defensive.
