Video Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2013

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

(Paraphrasing)
"My father, Mr. C, wanted narrow passageways.....but not this narrow"

No surprise that the state of the house is worse now than it was when Bob was alive. Maybe he tried to impose some "law and order" around the house, but as others have said, the hoard was just too much for an old man.

I didn't think I had much capability of feeling sorry for Chris (not to be "A-log-y", but I just feel like he has himself to blame for 90-95% of his problems), but to have to live in a mess like this has to be spirit-killing. I don't blame Chris for the hoard - or even necessarily for not cleaning it up, since such a task would be a major job at this point.

Also, I thought the "Resident Evil refrigerator" was a fairly decent joke. Gallows humor.

Compared to everything else this is a really minor note, but the picture quality for this video is far better anything we've ever seen. This tells me it's probably taken with one of his new iPhones instead of something like the PSEye or whatever he used the first house tour. We have a thread somewhere about color correcting his videos, but this one is distinctly lacking the piss-stain hue.
I've seen a few smartphone videos, and the quality is better than what was in this video. It looks more like he took this one with his 3DS (the quality matches up pretty well), unless he still has a working camera or two laying around.

If it's that difficult for Chris to effectively move through the house, I can't imagine how it could be for Barb. Risks for falls are huge in situations like this. Considering her age, health, and well, the hoard, I can't help foresee a fall and serious injury happening.

Other than that, I am at a loss for words. If Chris possibly knew a safe source to reach out to, he likely could get help with the situation he is in. This video shows that the household, if given the chance to get cleaned up, could be salvageable enough to live in.

To be honest im more worried about the fire risk. Just take a look at this image for example

http://oi44.tinypic.com/282m26q.jpg

There is literally Brobdingnagian ammount of clutter and flamable shit compacted around the house and in the hallways/stairs. Setting aside how fast a fire would spread, it would be impossible for chris and barb to get out given how much difficulty chris had in navigating the cramped hallways. Plus all that clutter is almost certainly in close proximity to live power outlets/sockets and all it will take is a few sparks from faulty wiring to start a literal inferno.

Not to mention the state of the kitchen.

http://oi44.tinypic.com/16k7v4z.jpg

With shit like that they almost certainly have servere vermin infestation and some pretty nasty pathogens brewing up in that pile, especially if Chris himself compares it to a biohazard.

You do make a valid point. If they choose to use space heaters due to possible blocked heater vents, all it would take is one to get knocked over and combustion would take near instant effect. Or the dryer if not properly cleaned (if even usable at this point.) Any little spark of something and 14 Branchland Court would become an inferno.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

As I've said before, that place is a fire hazard. In case of emergency, doors are freaking blocked off by garbage. Let us pray that the electrical work is holding up.

Does Chris sound out of breath to anyone else as he moves through the clutter?

It might have been had Chris not interrupted himself to explain the joke, like he does every single time he thinks he's said something clever, because he can't accept even the risk that everyone listening won't immediately praise him for his geinus.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

I didn't get the fridge joke until he explained it was weebo in origin, so I appreciate him taking the time to explain to me how to access the punchline.

It would probably take an adult autistic child about a week of back breaking labor to get rid of all that crap by himself I estimate, but he'd have that harpy of a mother having a freak out session the entire time he tried to get anything moved out, but he does sound fed up to me and willing to have at least that change about his life in the video narration by his own effort.

Thanks for this fascinating glimpse inside 14BC Alec and, of course, Chris.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

Are you able to give us any insight into the origins and age of this video Alec?

Also,I can't be the only person who found the state of his room to be genuinely quite upsetting. It was Chris' one sanctuary in the world; although living in a room surrounded by children's things was never good for him, the state of it now is not a good alternative. Barb continues to do what she'd been doing for the past three decades, sinking into oblivion and dragging Chri with her weather he likes it or not.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

For some reason I didn't feel as disgusted as shocked as I should have when watching this video. It must have been because I regularly watched Hoarders when they were still on the air. On Hoarders I saw houses where the occupants couldn't even move through narrow passageways; some occupants were stuck sitting/living in one chair, and I assume Barb may assume this lifestyle right now. Also if the Chandler animals live outdoors like Patti did then there may not be animal feces all over the house like in some Hoarders houses I've seen. Also the Chandlers still have a functional bathroom...? Call me a naive optimist but I still think there is some hope for the house! But at this point any hope for a clean and livable house is very, very fleeting.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

If he made this video for pity then he's getting better at obtaining pity. He didn't blame anyone specifically for the problem, he just documented it and voiced his unhappiness with the situation, and it was clear of ridiculous, broken metaphors like "steel plated and bolted heart" or "emotional zombie".

Watching that video is actually kind of heartbreaking. Yeah Chris is an adult and could get off of his ass and say "Mom, we're cleaning this place. Today." but even well adjusted, responsible adults struggle tremendously with trying to reason with a hoarder, and they usually fail. Chris has no chance.

Without knowing the reason for this video or who it was intended for and why, I do wonder if Chris did this intentionally as revenge/public shaming for Barb to get her to do something about the hoard. If there's one video that Chris knows for certain his parents were displeased with going public, it's definitely the previous house tour video.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

Holy shit, this is worse than I thought!

This makes me reconsider the amount of blame Chris deserves for his own misery. Living in that filthy claustrophobic hole has to be hell. And Chris cannot change that, because :snorlax:, as the hoarder she is, won't let him clear that mess.

Having to live like that, I understand more the apathy and laziness of Chris, his habit of eating at mcdonalds (their kitchen is useless!), his videogame obsession (doesn't have room for more activities!), and his naïve and desperate search for a girlfriend who takes care of him and gets him out of that house. Fuck, I'm feeling sorry for Chris!

I liked that joke too, not because it's funny, but because I'm glad he recognizes that his living situation is dangerous.

I just figured he was *SIGH*ing, but come to think of it, you might be right.

there is a part of me that wonders if Chris actually WANTS us to find this. Is this a desperate cry for help? Has Chris picked up on how upsetting his squalor is to normies? Is he hoping that someone will have the place condemned so he can move somewhere better?
I actually really hope that happens. I'm not trying to :alog: or make trolling plans, I really think that it would improve the quality of Barb's last few years, not to mention Fatty.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

The kitchen is blocked off. The kitchen is blocked off. They must be living entirely on fast food and takeout now.

At least the bathroom isn't too cluttered. :|

"So yeah... not too proud of the state of the house."

Understatement of the decade.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

Marvin's said that Barb doesn't get out much. Can he (or anyone in the know) confirm if Barb has now become like a crippled old lady that basically relies on Chris to do everything for her? Which leads to my next question.

We all know that Chris wants a woman to take him in and save him from his shitty living condition, but does he expect his sweetheat to be to also take in his mother and look after both of them, or does Chris plan to just leave Barb in that house, unable to go anywhere? I can't imagine that Barb would last long in a house that Chris has trouble navigating.

I'm going to cut him a break here, because I listened to that part like five times and kept thinking he was saying "President Devo" and was getting nosebleeds trying to figure out how that related to Biohazard (in Japan). His squeeky mushmouthed jabbering is so hard to decipher sometimes and I have family in Appalachia!

A previous poster said it true, too, about some forumites probably being willing to pitch in to help him clean the place up if he ever asked. I know it's wishful thinking here, but a situation like that would do him some real good - he'd feel better about having a cleaner place and maybe even make a few IRL friends. It's a shame he's so terrified of everything and everyone.

Considering how bad the house is, Scamper is better off outside.

Thing is, Barb doesn't move around much when at home. So I kind of doubt she'd wind up being caught under a pile of debris. As for Chris reaching out to a safe source for help, I'm betting he knows a few. He just doesn't want to. The sad truth of it is he'd rather complain and whine about a problem than actually do any about it.

I think the square footage of all the blocked off rooms may actually be greater than the entire area of my apartment.

This is amazing, its as bad as we imagined. I'm honestly surprised we didn't see any active vermin.

I'd love to know the back story on this but I know, sources must remain confidential to protect field agents &c.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

Something I noticed.

Barb and Chris are living in the "family room" now, because Barb's room got blocked.

The family room used to be Bob's pseudo-bedroom. There's something disturbing about that, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

Any idea as to when this was filmed? This year? Last year? It was definitely after Bob died and there is also a Christmas wreath on the front door. So it was either very recently or this time last year. Why would he film this? How would anyone even of found it? Where would he uploaded it? So many questions
