Chris Rock presents..... SAW?

If they want to make another Saw movie, they should remove all the police stuff and focuses on only those playing the game. Also we don't need any twists or even need to know who is behind the game, just bring Tobin Bell back if he is up to it for the voice role and have the puppet as well. Have the story be about a team of people trying to survive the game or one person who game involves others in traps, hell could even build on the whole doing the trap in public like the intro to Saw 3d if they wanted. Knowing less about something is normally better when it comes to horror and the Saw series need to start following that rule.

Also if they are going to keep doing spin off stuff why not set it in another country, I mean if it all copycats now, why does it even need to just take place in America. Having the Mexican cartel be in the game or Russian gangsters could be fun.

Truth is all these movies have low budget and don't need to make huge money at the cinema to be profitable, plus got dvd/blu ray sales, and tv/streaming licensing fees which add even more money on top of it. However the series "died" due to Saw 6's boxoffice in sales compared to Saw 5 dropping by about $60 million for a total box office of $68.2 million, it had a budget of $11 million so would be shocked if it wasn't profitable but it is clear fatigue hit in and didn't have much profitability left with marketing and other costs if they kept at it, so they did what every other big horror movie series does at some point, make one and market it as being the final one, and it worked with Saw 3D grossing nearly $140 million world wide. What has changed is Lionsgate don't have many ips and these movies are cheap most around $10 million to make with it maxing out at $20 million, so they tried another with Jigsaw and it made money. So expect a new one every few years but not to the point of it being yearly to avoid fatigue again, and they won't stop even with Spiral low box office which no doubt they will blame on covid which is one of the reasons for it's low gross especially overseas, but the biggest reasons is meh word of mouth from fans and being up against much bigger horror movies like A Quiet Place Part II and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It cutting off any legs the movie may have had.

When I saw this movie I was unsure if it was really a saw movie cause it felt like something like one of those hip sequels to get the teens into it. But this movie was boring and the killer was very obvious. It would've been better if Sam Jackson was the killer since he was more intimidating than some generic movie villain that we got. The cop stuff commentary was just bad and it would've been better for them to focus more on some trap plot since those things would make the movie way more money than Chris Rock's opportunity to show how "Dramatic" he is when his voice is just not cut out for serious hero roles.

EDIT: Not to mention the whole cop commentary is undermined by the villain having a generic movie motive of "I WANT TO KILL BAD COPS BECAUSE MY DADDY WAS SHOT AND I SAW IT"

The first Saw movie was more than enough
It's also the best one. Honestly everything after the second is fucking garbage.

The original didn't waste time on bullshit "gore porn" traps like some of the latter films, most of the horror was psychological and on the fact that the people targeted were shitty people, but could be redeemed!

The whole idea of Jigsaw targeting people with his game, Putting them in this larger than life situation, showing just how fucking petty their life choices have been and how they're wasting away valuable time. The whole point that Amanda (And the studio and even the writers) missed, explained in Kramer's last line of the original.

False.

As long as you accept that the sequels are just going to be gore shlock, this is a fantastic series and one of the best in the horror genre. It's a much better series than Halloween, NOES, TCM, Hellraiser, etc...

They might all have individual movies that are better than all saw movies aside from the first one, but overall most of their sequels are unwatchable garbage aside from the occasional one while Saw delivers exactly what you expect and is really enjoyable as a result.

I mean, Adam didn't really deserve to be there, his 'crime' was voyeurism, despite being a photographer by trade. Also Zepp was there for being a gossip.

Saw 2 and 3 pose a challenge to Kramer's ideology and end with Amanda, the person he deems his greatest success, showing that she never truly changed and he dies at the hands of Jeff Denlon, another failure. The original 3 films are a rejection of his ideology. It's not missed by the sequels, the sequels are showing that his ideology was flawed and only fueled his delusions

Sorry to necro this thread but Dogfucker goes through the behind the scenes of Spiral that was released with it, and it's really worse.

This movie is much worse with that in mind since originally there was going to be a prequel script with an earlier game of John Kramer's, but they changed the entire thing because Chris Rock met someone involved at the wedding and pitched a saw movie. That led to this abomination being created because Chris wanted to make a Saw movie and the producers thought it would make easy money.

There were also conflicting views of the film behind the scenes and apparently Chris Rock thinks the Saw movies were more about the police investigation despite the fact people wanted to see the Traps and kills.

Forget about that, he thought people watched those movies for the fucking police investigation parts of it.
Yes and like those are fine but only as levity from the trap plot. The only good police stuff that Saw had was the stuff in the first Saw and the movies that had police interact directly with the trap setters.

Chris Rock does not understand horror at all and he's a stupid autist who can't act for shit.

This is why most major stars should stay away form horror!!
More that actors should not have too much influence over the screenwriting process since the issue with Spiral is that Chris Rock was behind the entire story and made it too much of a vanity project for himself while Lionsgate only saw it as a perfect way to make lots of money because of Chris Rock's name recognition and how Sam Jackson wanted to be involved since Chris was.
