Lovequest Chris Thinks Trolls Are Hacking His Text Messages

I think the saddest thing about Chris is that he chooses to live in misery and isolation. The best thing he could do now would be to go back to school and actually major in something he knows he could get a job in, not to mention he would actually be putting himself in a social situation and he might even make some new friends out of it. Of course, Chris being Chris I'm sure he would do something fucking stupid and get himself kicked out of school again for posting personal ads all over campus so he could find a 32 year old non-alcoholic, non-smoking lesbian he could turn into a sweetheart from the ground up.
I don't believe he chose this life. His mommy coddles him too much and is over-protective. Also Bob told him this is better for him, then actually getting a job. Which is probably true since he has trouble socializing normally.

It's getting to the point where he'll pick out individual snippets of conversations and decide those parts are troll words. If he texts Catie and she says "I like apples", Chris will assume it's true that Catie likes apples, but if her very next sentence is "please stop texting me, we're not in a relationship", he'll assume that sentence alone is false.

It's a bizarre combination of paranoia and naivete. He is suspicious that trolls have infiltrated every aspect of his life, yet he is willing to believe that Catie and Renee are real on faith.

What unites them is him believing whatever he wants to believe. And his overarching philosophy that male=bad, female=good. Anything positive or nice that these characters say must be said by a true and honest female. Any negative things that come from it must because a male somehow wormed his way in.

On top of his tendency to disbelieve anything that gives him the prickly-wicklies , Chris also seems to have trouble learning new information and then applying it to what he already knows. So even if Chris was willing to admit the Renee was a troll, he would still believe that the relationship and everything up until the "revelation" was real. A normal person would realize the situation for what it was, but in Chris' mind it's almost as if Renee and the relationship was real and then she turned into a troll and broke up with him.

I guess philosophers could argue that if Chris genuinely believed he was in a relationship then the emotions and experience he had WAS real.

Why is anyone shocked by this? Hasn't "Don't worry X, I know you're TRUE and HONEST and not a troll" been what Chris has said to every single sweetheart/gal pal to date?

Plus given past trolling experiences he's had, is having his phone hacked really such a ridiculous and outlandish conclusion for Chris to come to? I mean, how many times was his PSN hacked into? How many websites of his were hacked? I can absolutely see why he might assume that his phone was being hacked when his texts started surfacing, and don't personally think it shows anything particularly worrying regarding Chris's mental well-being. (No more worrying than normal, at any rate).

Y'know if he would just stop using "CWChrisChanSonichu " as his username and "sonichu " as his password, this would stop happening.

This might be frowned upon by some people, but I really think you'll eventually need to tell Chris the truth. As you can see, he'll do anything he possibly can to make himself feel better about it.

Telling him the truth wont work. He will believe what he wants to believe and no amount of evidence or proof will change this. He has a script and he's heading towards the ending. His mind is closed on the matter. So There.

I wonder if he actually believes any of that or if he's just grasping at straws. Looking for a way out, as it were. Maybe it's not that "his mind is closed"; maybe he's on some level aware of the truth, and he's just trying to come up with a semi-plausible explanation that allows him to deny the truth and maintain his illusory relationship for just a little bit longer.

Then again, this is Chris we're talking about, so maybe it's just autism. Who knows.

The poor guy is so desperate for human contact, he's coming up with ridiculous fantasy scenarios to hold on to whatever "friends" he has.
Hmm... *strokes chin*... so Chris needs the trolls to pretend to be his gal pals and his only form of human contact. But the trolls need Chris for content. Whoa.

Normal people = look at all the evidence and logically weigh up the scenario that is most LIKELY to be the truth, based on past experience and knowledge.
Chris = ignores all the evidence and settles on an arbitrary version of the truth that is the most palatable to him and the easiest for his ego to accept, regardless of past experience and knowledge.

The more things change the more they stay the same...

This is sad. The kindest thing to do for him now is to cut off the texts with him completely. Yes, he'll convince himself that trolls are deleting the messages on their way to his phone, but there is no need to give him anymore grist for the mill. This sad saga (yes, I said saga) needs to end.
They ARE cut off. Thetan hasn't texted him at all. These are all unsolicited.

Thetan could block Chris's number, though. Which would be a loss for us, content-wise, but might be the kindest thing to do for Chris.

I honestly don't really give a rat's ass about Chris's feelings, though; I donated to the fire fund, but that was because fires suck and nobody should have to go through that, even a mean-spirited jerk like Chris.

"I've been tricked by false identities in the past. I've been hacked in the past. Therefore, this time I'm being hacked, and not tricked, because you can't trick me again."
That's a really good point.
To get tricked, Chris has to fall for a lie (ie: making a mistake), to get hacked, whatever is getting hacked only needs to exist (ie: no error on Chris' part involved).
So obviously, he chose the alternative, where he's not the one to fuck up.

Also I have a vague feeling he's going to pretend she was romantically involved with him.
"Going to"? I think he already does. Her complete failure to respond to him in any way whatsoever is proof of her attraction to him.

Telling Chris the truth rarely accomplishes anything. "Eventually" just means he'll have more time to construct his own self serving version of events. Regardless of what Chris is told or not told, in a few years he'll either believe "Renee" was a loyal gal pal stolen away from him by evil trolls, or he'll have forgotten about her entirely.
Oh wow. I don't know what would be more interesting: telling Chris the truth or maintaining radio silence.
I'm kind of interested in seeing just how long Chris will persist in the face of complete silence coming the other way. He can always be told the truth later for all the difference it will make.
Simply not kissing Chris' ass 24/7 or even simply being a male automatically gets you labeled "TROLL!" by Chris.
"Renee" has managed to avoid the troll label for some months simply by saying nothing at all to Chris. So no ass kissing is necessary if one has hypothetical china.
I don't believe he chose this life.
Not all at once, certainly, but make no mistake that in a million different ways, a million little choices, Chris did indeed choose his life.
