Anything, including a job
A 9-5 job would just likely drain him of any energy to do things, and less time/opportunities to interact with us or do things that interests us. Whatever job he'd go do, he wouldn't probably be very good at it, and as of now, he's getting paid to do stuff that he liked doing for a hobby PLUS his Tugboat.

Don't get me wrong, for our sake this is better than him having a job, and for his sake, too. When I said having a job would be better than doing nothing, I was speaking in context of his hesitancy at the time to do things like writing comics.

I still think he has room to be more intensive with these renewed Sonichu endeavors, though.

Chris would never be happy with a job that required to him to do things he didn't feel like doing. The comics thing really is his best bet at a steady supply of cash, but now I'm beginning to worry about the copyright backlash that he's so far avoided.

If he starts printing Sonichu and selling them for a profit, he's very clearly in violation of numerous intellectual properties owned by companies that are as likely to laugh it off as Chris is to enter a steady monogamous relationship with Natalie Portman.
Can you imagine how Chris will react when he has Sonichu taken from him? His magnum opus stripped away from him and his dreams of taking it commercial dashed forever....

There's something about copyrights etc that just brings out the autism in people here. They go all Moleman. "Chris can't make any money off Sonichu! It's the law!"

I love it

I'm not saying Chris can't make money. I'm saying that if he starts making money and gets the attention of Nintendo and whoever own Pokemon, I don't think they're going to be nice about reclaiming their respective copyrights.

Nintendo has been a bunch of cunts lately with copyright on shit that people weren't even making a dime off of. I could see him getting away with selling ad space on his website if he bothers to make one, but nothing more.

Do we need to sticky some sort of notice telling people that Nintendo or Sega aren't going to sue a retarded guy for his comic books? 'Cause it sounds like we do. No one's going to go after the pittance Chris is making on his stupid crafts. Guy gets one $1000 donation and people think the lawyers are swarming.

Well, one reason to think they might ever go after him is because copyright laws are kind of finicky in America. A lot of the time, companies are basically compelled to defend their property at every little step, because if they let one thing go, a court might later say "you didn't defend it that one time? Guess you don't really care, we're not going to shut down the guy who is seriously stealing your stuff this time either".

Not saying it's likely, but it might be a factor.

Sega would have to send death squads to every anime convention in America.

Chris told me not to call anybody. Now I can't call my plumber to fix my pipes *sigh*

In all honesty Chris has gone thru a lot of shit already and deserves some happiness in his life. Especially now that he has decided to go thru his tomgirl persona. Admittedly his past shenanigans were hilarious, but eventually even the most naive of humans is going to become a cynical, paranoid person. With Chris this is doubly so as he pretty much had an entire forum dedicated to him and his actions as well as a well documented wiki. The past few years of Chris have been bad on him, thou admittedly he brought them on himself. He has lost his father, ended in court twice and almost burnt down his home. At this point even someone like Chris deserves real happiness.

That and the knowledge that someone is raging because Chris is happy is delightful.

This is true, and there have been similar cases in the past where a company has engaged in seemingly heavy-handed legal action over unauthorised but basically harmless use of their characters. But the Internet rather complicates things - there are so many fan works, parodies and rip-offs that it's pretty much impossible to snap all of them up. I'm no legal expert, particularly when it comes to American law, but there would appear to be a number of factors in Chris' favour:

1. It's really obviously not an official product, so that's an counterpoint to the "damaging the brand" argument.
2. Chris calls it a parody, and has done so for years. The dividing line between parody and straight rip-off is unclear, but look at all those porn parodies that basically just call themselves e.g. "The Golden Girls XXX: A Parody" and seemingly get away with it.
3. Sega has been aware of Sonichu for a long time and have taken no action so far. Nintendo have presumably been informed by thousands of we'en emails.

As I say, I don't know how all this would stand up in the real world, but it seems like the issue would be so complicated that it just wouldn't be worth the hassle to take any action beyond maybe a cease-and-desist letter.

Way I see it, Christine will probably always be a somewhat petulant adult autistic child. Her happiness will always be dampened by the fact that she is lonely, and she will be lonely so long as she expects other people (including potential sweethearts) to have the temerity to accept her as she sees herself and the patience to accept her as she is. She might never be mature enough to understand that the two are not always reconcilable.

That said, she's making money doing something that she loves and meeting people with whom she has a modicum of social stimulation. With her newfound lesbian persona, she's learning tolerance and most definitely making an effort to improve. She's going out. She's getting involved with the LGBT community. She's successfully marketing her Sonichu comics. I mean, it's not an Olympian effort, but it's something tangible, and you know what? Good for her.

Sonichu isn't near as much of a copyright disaster as people think. it's only real problems are the couple times that it just straight up uses pokemon and sonic, but they are all pretty clearly parody/homage. I could easily edit Sonichu to be publishable by a major house in about two hours.
