Almost everything Dax has he didn't build himself but had gifted to him by his internet-daddy Maddox. How he got his start in the industry, most of his connections in the industry, most of his success as a writer, the name of his podcast, his fucking girlfriend -- all of them are Maddox hand-me-downs. Even the peak of Dick's career was a byproduct of a feud he had with Maddox. But while Maddox has moved on to other things, Dick remains kicking around stones in the same spot his e-papa left him. Still, he's had just enough comedic chops to coast on the sinking ships that are the Dick Show and the Biggest Problem in the Universe. Dick does have some talent.

The main problem here is Vito. He's shit. Straight-up. He hasn't the slightest inkling of a creative spark in his nonce head. Nigga moved to California over a decade ago to make it in the entertainment industry, and his greatest comedic feat in all that time has been branding himself as an "ironic" pedophile and champion of non-offending MAPs, and he stole this bit wholesale from his buddy Max Carson. That's how unoriginal and uncreative Vito is. He has zero redeeming qualities besides being a punching bag and making Dick look better by comparison. He knows this and hates it but lacks the talent to do anything about it. Because if Vito actually had any talent, being the cohost of a dying podcast and making a shitty meta-humor comic wouldn't be the two reigning achievements of his non-starter career.

I’ve got a short critique of the Worst Page Ever, & his Self Insert Panal. It took me a while to get to it but I finally managed to read what’s been released at this point in time. I’m going out of my way to not be mean.

Starting with what I considered the worst page in the entire book so far:

Looking at the page as a whole, it mainly consists of introductory information on what kind of person SuperKiller (called “SK” here on out) is. The female character (Rebecca? Called “R” here on out) is used as a plot device so SK can tell the audience who he is. That’s not unusual in a comic book. It’s not very imaginative, but a very basic story telling technique. The top left panel let’s R set up the information being fed to the reader. SK comes off as a whiney comic fan based on his complaints about the comic book R made available to him. The action in the panel is flat, facial expression makes SK look like he is questioning something, with his eyebrow raised, while he’s actually complaining about the comic he’s holding being a reprint. That’s not very likable. So, right off the bat, SK comes across as an elitist jerk.

Top right I don’t need to say much about. Anyone with eyes can see. The horror. That’s a bad panel.

Mid left, SK continues being an elitist, & also reveals he is a Redditor. “Reductive” he calls the concept of being a bad guy. Then claims he’s not “one of those lame bad guys” further contradicting his claims just previous about bad being reductive. He’s not coming off as a reliable either.

Middle right panel has SK say he’s just a humble man doing his job. The panel art of dripping fries and yet another overdrawn mouth contrast SK’s monologue which is a strange choice. I don’t believe SK, he lied in his previous statement about bad guys & reductivism. This art is really gross, too. Why are all the mouths so focused on?

Bottom left panel has R looking creeped out, too. She looks flat, not much going on, lack of background behind her looks lazy & jarring. She’s going to catch flies as her mouth is always open. Why?

Bottom right panel is the star of this page, it’s bad. It’s flat. SK comes off as a jackass. He says “bang” mimicking a gun to his head, so that tells the reader that he’s a pussy who can’t even say what he does for a living. Might as well have had him say he “unalives” people. “Killer” is in the title of the book. SK can’t even say he kills people. Is he afraid of being demonitized? His facial expression here is blasé & makes him seem like such an ass, I’d expect R to hit him with her broom.

SK has been introduced to readers as someone who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, or lies, back to back. He seems to think he’s better or smarter than most people, & seems to be elitist about things like comics. He also is rather unlikable so far.

Next (& last, for now) is the self insert panel. Just don’t. Especially if you’re just starting out in the comic’s field. Don’t self insert. Bad art in the foreground with the weird facial expression on that cardboard (?) cut out thing of a superhero.

No one knows who Vaedo is, he’s not a household name. Why self insert? Also, it’s honestly sad how he makes his self insert at least 80 lbs too thin. Not going to make fun of that because I mean it that it’s sad. For him. Change the self insert to an actual character & it could work better. SK calls himself a weirdo here. Ok, then. SK looks wide in the hips. A little short legged, too. I think SK might be an FTM troon because of them birthin’ hips.

For non compelling hook. Nothing grabbed me in. (That’s for the whole thing. Narrative wise the writer(s?) tell & don’t show. That’s extra bad for a comic in particular. Plenty of opportunities to show, not tell. SK is unlikable & R I felt a little bad for. Could use a lot of improvement in the writing.

Art was flat, & way to many weird mouth details. I don’t have much to add but for what I’ve already said, that hasn’t already been said ITT. If I repeated a criticism that was made before, it’s because it was extremely noteworthy. Could use major polish. It was about what I expected all around. So far. Not sure I’ll read again, or any in the future. Unless paid to do so.

Also not doing any colors, well yeah it worked for The Walking Dead and few others western comics but man it sure doesn't work on this. I'm not a weeb, I'm just aware of the big iconic mangas that have been going on for decades. But I can look at a page from a new issue of One Piece and see that there's so much going on in each page. It's black and white (and admittedly I don't think I'd read One Piece) but I can see why it has a huge following.

I'm sure there's outliers to this in the Manga but from my experience Manga is really fast to read. Like I once read a whole Jojo's Bizarre Adventure arc in a weekend. Real fans of Berserk will read the entire series. With western comics you generally tend to read them slower and in exchange it should more detailed.

What else can I type? If you're writing a comic and you're making the person read full on sentences they better be worth your time. There's nothing worth anyone's time in Vito's comic.

The bpitu ending shit was all a gayfabe work, there was an episode after the "ending" one I didn't watch even a clip. I guess because it was predicted all along it wasn't worth mentioning, and because it's Vedo it wasn't worth watching.

Color wouldn't help it. It would make it worse. Manga looks great compared to this. Real mangaka are insanely talented and professional, even amateur mangaka have a better sense of black & white than this guy. Walking dead art was just simple, good enough nothing to complain about nothing astounding. I used to read the same artist's X-Files comics and it was the same deal. Just consistent art.

Shading done by someone (or some automatic computer program) who has never printed a comic. Because as bad as this looks on a screen it will look worse on paper, washed out in places and other problems.
