One thing that is very fucking annoying is people talking about FEAR's combat and AI. I swear people have been brainwashed into thinking the combat is good, yes the VFX is good, how dust kicks up and bullet holes everywhere is great but thats not combat. Go and play it at the hardest difficulty, and you'll start to notice how shit the shotgun is, how shit the rifles feel, how all the enemies just have that bullet spongy feeling even on easy mode. Besides the pretty effects, the gun play itself feels bland. The AI isn't smart, even the devs admitted that. The reason why people think the AI is smart, is because of the voice lines. I remember watching a video about it where the devs said that the AI will shout out "behind the sofa" or "behind (cover)" but thats just it, they're just shouting a voice line and nothing more. There isn't anything special in the code that tells the NPC "Use suppression fire and have two replicas move up to flank", even the fucking NPC don't react to their squad mates, in their code its just that NPC and the PC.
I do think FEAR is okay, I'll reply it maybe once every two or three years when its around spooky season. But I really do think it has a cult following because FPS games these days lack a real single player mode that isn't just a long winded tutorial getting you ready for MP (COD, Halo) and even then the guns lack any real VFX.

Yeah, I never liked FEAR. Cool shotgun tho but gimme the commandos and assassin chicks from Half-Life any day.

Yeah, Half-Life did a much better job of surprising me with its marines than FEAR ever did. FEAR definitely had the ambiance and it was one of the few games of the Bullet Time era that made it work reasonably well, but the AI itself wasn't anything special. Just a whole lot of nested conditionals, like all others back in the day.

FEAR is more fun when you don't use the slomo, including on the hardest difficulty. Makes you play it completely differently. Like, the stealth ninja guys really don't pose any threat when you can slow them down and unload on them, but when you don't have that option, the bastards pose an actual threat.
With slomo, I think the game's honestly a bit too easy to just walk through, and you don't really have much incentive to make use of the environment, grenades, etc.
The problem is, the slomo is probably what people remember the most about it.

Obligatory early-video "Fuck you Randy" section is great. For what I dislike about Civvie, the Randy Pitchford shitting sessions are always entertaining.
It's cool that a lot of the video places focus on the cinematic elements. I feel like Civvie is enough of a film buff and has a decent understanding of the subject matter to give an interesting take.

He did do movie reviews in his early days so he does have some credibility. The doom movie he had a sort of tongue n cheek sit-down was funny for what it was. IDK what else you have seen from him but his pro postal series is fucking top notch. It's the opposite of his patreon discord ( which is hilariously soy, almost painfully so. )

I don't know where else to put this so i'll leave it here, ShillmanLives had a spergout yesterday because of a sponsored review of Star Wars Outlaws that wasn't well recieved.
Shillman didn't took the response well so he privated the video for a few hours (video dislikes were even higher at the time he took it down).

Gman is going down the same path as Actman he kick started his channel by critiquing “AAA Slop” even used the words himself in some videos and through promoting older games/indie games he attracted a certain fanbase and he honestly thought he had a fanbase that would support for calling a modern Ubisoft game good? Not defending the reaction but you had to notice your own fanbase aren't regular gamers. I notice Gmans fanbase tends to simply praise for pushing le indie gems but will utter wreck you for daring to go against their opinion especially against the same “AAA slop” he critiqued in the past. Hes also shat on bigger AAA games for less so thats why people think his reaction to Outlaws is so odd.
He also seems to be shaving down his edge after getting a following, I could have sworn he leaned more right in the past.
