The "Star of David" is not a real Hebrew symbol. The star symbol is actually the "Magen David" or "Shield of David". Unlike the Menorah or the "golden lampstand", which is directly inspired by ancient Hebrew religious imagery (see: bible), the Magen David is a later century pagan-inspired symbol found on talismans along with similar charms for protection, etc. If you look at what the "shield of David (King of Israel) was in Hebrew religious literature (or your bible) you'll note only one thing--God.
Therefore, not only is the star not a legitimate symbol but, based on its actual name and emphasis, is supposed to be blasphemous even among Judaism. It is in fact a mostly Zionist symbol (meaning political rather than religious in root).
If you see someone wearing a "Star of David", tell them about this and link them the article detailing this from Jewish Encyclopedia. Mock them for their ignorance of their own history. Makes for fun times.
