Cleopatra should be played by a black actor – but not just because it might be more accurate - Woke Journalist advocates for Cleopatra to be played by a black woman just for diversity

I'm serious about wanting a mini series on Mansa Musa. Man was so goddamn wealthy that went he went on Hajj to Mecca, his entourage destroyed the economies of every single country he passed through. His entourage would pass through a city and literally hand out gold bars to beggars.
Unfortunately the usual suspects would REEEEEEEEE about how his achievements of introducing science to europe and discovering the americas during his trip to mecca were whitewashed away.

Sadly I am not joking....dis nigga has become a focal point for the Krazy Kangz Kult to try and claim he is responsible for every single european achievement and innovation during the late medieval period

That's the problem, it WOULDN'T be more historically accurate and if people who harped on this actually cared about history, particularly African history, they'd be pushing more to have stories of other African queens presented. There are plenty of them and most of them aren't even Egyptian.

But that's the rub. Many of the people who go on these ill-informed crusades know little about actual African history and are, instead, basing what they deem to be important on a) what long discredited Afrocentrists have told them is important and b) what they value as important according to what is dictated to them by the dominant culture they claim to be going against.

Jesus Christ I'd like, FOR ONCE, for the complaint to be that we're tired of seeing movies about frickin' Cleopatra since it's only the "scandal" of her life that has made her relevant for so many years.

I wish people would stop attempting to taint history with their agendas. It's a complex, beautiful, and engaging realm of study that deserves far more than being used as a prop in vapid culture wars.

Im pretty sure the Punching back was to the east, The Seleucid empire was just pathetic. 250 years of turning stuff to shit ending in a giant clusterfuck of getting your own men stampeded by your war elephants.
Seleucus Nicator was the closest to actually reuniting Alexander's Empire before a perfidious Ptolemy had him assassinated. Beware the Eternal Lagid.

That was more literal punching as opposed to "man I wish these retards didn't grow all the good wheat because in a better world we'd throw them to the lions", which was the general sentiment their neighbors had.

Imagine being so repulsive the Romans, who would declare war on anyone at the drop of a hat, were sufficiently disgusted to just call you a client state and keep you at arm's length until the time came that your ruler made Caesar's dick twitch.

Because for all the talking they do about their African ancestors the reality is that they don't actually care. They know damn well that the most famous stuff happened in Egypt since the ancient Egyptians left giant monuments and massive tombs all over the place and their ancestor's didn't.

There's also the little known fact Mansa Musa is actually strongly disliked back in his homeland (to the extent for some it's taboo to say his name out loud) because his little gold splurge actually made Mali poor for decades to follow.

To all accounts he was a terrible leader who wasted what his predecessors had built up.

Didn't he also make almost every crime punishable by enslavement so he could sell his people to berber slave traders, or am I thinking of a different ruler?

They were mixed race basically. It wasn't until the Arab conquest that the Semetic/Arab complexion became dominant when the darker and fair skinned populations were pushed further north and south respectivley.

So the studies showed that Ancient Egyptians likely more in common with people from the Levant and Southeastern Europeans? Essentially they're Caucasian. And even if you argue that they were Middle Eastern, they come in all shades from ghost pale to dark brown.

Why does that surprise some people? Egypt literally has similar climate to those areas. Human physical appearances is literally determined by what climate you come from (as in if you come from a more dryer area you're probably gonna have more sharper features and if you come from a cold area, you're probably gonna be relatively pale).

Pretty much, but what really put the nail in the coffin is that when they dig up mummies and egyptian busts that haven't lost their colour...

Afrocentrists like to claim that mummies and drawings of egyptians with blue/green eyes and blonde/red hair these are the results of the "Mummification process" or aging, but you don't find any red-haired mummies over in South America. Curious isn't it?

It would probably make them furious if they found out that someone like Gal Gadot or Scarlett Johansson would more likely physically resemble an Ancient Native Egyptian than any person with Sub-Saharan African ancestry.

Egypt was also one of the first multiracial empires so archeology gives afrocentrists just enough rope to hang themselves with. The standard Egyptian phenotype that was in majority probably looked more or less like most Egyptians do today, but there was a black minority of Nubians and Ethiopian mercenaries were not unknown there. And a couple Pharoahs were black. Of course those were short lived dynasties, but there it is. It's enough facts to twist to fit a narrative that WE WUZ PHAROAHS N SHEEIT.

I agree entirely though I just want to say that according to that 2017 study, the title in the article states that it that an increase of Sub-Saharan African DNA only happened after Roman Times. I think that implies that the only real difference with your average Egyptian today and in the past is that today they're more likely to be more mixed with Black than in the past.

Cleopatra was Greek though.

Take a look at the bust carved when she visited Rome. We know exactly who she was, and it wasn't black.

I think that Lady Gaga would actually be a good choice.

I’m no ancient historian; I have absolutely no idea which party is technically correct. But, ultimately, the answer to whether or not Cleopatra should be played by a white woman shouldn’t come from an ethnological examination of ancient Egypt.

The casting should be informed by the racial and social dynamics of today.

Literally what? :cringe:

Yeah. Try that with any historical figure known to be anything other than white and see what happens.

Egypt was also a semi-continuous state for almost 10000 years leading up to Jesus Christ during which they got raped by multiple other empires. That being said, claiming Cleopatra as black is retarded because she wasn't even Egyptian, she was Greek, which are definitely not black no matter what historical period you choose.
