Cobra Kai

Season 4 was great.

Silver and Kreese were the highlight for me.

Was worried they were gonna change Silver into a changed guy…. Nope.

Kreese and how they handled him was also great. Showed that while Kreese is an asshole and brutal guy. He is not a monster and does care for his students. He just really believes the world is a cruel place that shows no mercy. So you have to strike first and be brutal to survive. Due to his experiences.

Also, liked seeing Kreese grow and learn somewhat from his experiences with Johnny.

The thing that really makes this show for me tho is having the previous actors come back to play their movie characters. It is great seeing them have a good time with material that respects their characters instead of shitting on them.

Current theory
Chozen is going to take over Miyagi Do and kick Daniel out for being too hot headed and eagerness to take on Cobra Kai methods. He’ll steal his son and possibly a few Miyagi dos, while Sam, Eli, and Demetri follow Daniel to reform under another new banner with Johnny and the Eagle Fangs. Johnny will reconcile with Kreese, but again fall out, Robby and Tori split with Johnny as he teams up with Daniel. Terry goes apeshit Machiavellian and somehow spirits Miguel into his dojo, probably involving his dad and the cartel. Chozen ends up getting burned big time by ruthless business deals cut by Terry and he also doubles down on his old ways. Three for all dojo showdown, with everyone against each other.

Suddenly, Jaiden Smith shows up and wipes the floor, as a new wave of hybridized Chinese-Black Kung Fu masters takeover the valley. Jackie Chan revealed that the true creators of Kung Fu were African, and Miyagi stole it from the Chinese. All must now band together against the Afrikang threat, as Jaiden takes on Shawn, Kenny, Aisha, and Chris as students.

I’ve only seen one scene of this show and it was some girl in a debate about the death penalty throwing a fit and getting a room full of “yaaas queens” for it.

Is the rest of this show that obnoxiously awful?

Every scene with her is, yes.

finally watched season 4. Silver and Kreese were the best characters this season. i liked that Daniel and Johnny atleast tried working together and them falling was the natural outcome but, their students were smart enough to learn something from both of them.

i liked the Kenny sub-plot. its like a reverse of karate kid one and i cant wait to see Anthony get to eat some dirt for being a little shit.

the final fights were damn great and
fuck stingray for selling john out. manchild.

I thought both Anthony and Kenny were obnoxious little shits. I can't empathize with either of them... they're both bullies now.

Liked it overall though. I also agree the cocaine retcon is a good one. I need to watch part III again and see if the Silver character works now in that light. It seemed like Silver was hinting that Mike Barnes might be coming back.

I heard a rumor that Kenny is going to die in Season 5...
When it happens, Robby is reportedly going to say "Oh my god, you killed Kenny!" And Eli Moskowitz is going to call Silver a bastard.

At first, I didn't quite know where Season 4 was going with the Kenny subplot. At first, I was like "Oh. Another character? Ok, let's see if this works ..."

The kid started off adorable in his first scene, to really sympathetic (borderline pathetic) throughout most of the season, to a Frankenstein monster by the end. He worked great in developing as his own character while also finally giving Anthony LaRusso something to do in this series and giving Robby a really compelling and heartbreaking character arc for the season.

And while Kenny definitely came across as unhinged and a clear-cut bad guy during the locker room scene in the final episode, I can't lie: It was satisfying as hell to see Anthony get the shit punched out of him, lol. Anthony absolutely had it coming, and nobody can convince me otherwise. It was satisfying to finally see Daniel act like a long-overdue parental authority to that little shit, too.

And, also, props to Kenny for inventing the "LaPUSSO" name. I really hope that Johnny gets to hear this nickname in Season 5. Haha.

The only other thing the asian girl did this season was Johnny making her do math. I'm still not sure how he even convinced her to join. Sam's moments are a lot like that too but most of the show tends to make fun of that crap.

Not sure how season 5 is going to make the cobrakai students a threat. Robby's most likely going to eagle fang, Tori is 50/50 since she won't trust silver, kenny is a middle schooler and Kyler became Hawk's bitch.

I watched Season 4 last night and it blew me away.

This show has no business being as good as it is. But it is so good that it retroactively makes Karate Kid III, not just a better movie, but required viewing. Its amazing.

Hell, at this point, lets redeem The Next Karate Kid. What's Hillary Swank doing these days?
Michael Cavalieri, who played the side-villain Ned Randall, whose character was basically just a sociopathic tsundere towards the FemMC, is actually very active in Karate Kid fandom & would love to come back for Cobra Kai

I don't think Hillary Swank had any comment about the movie tho.

I've heard people speculate that Dutch is coming back next season. I don't think he is, but I do think that Mike Barnes is coming back. The actor seems more than willing, and it makes sense for the story.

I honestly can't decide if I dislike The Next Karate Kid or Blackrate Kid more.

The only upside to Next besides Swanks amazing body was Michael Ironside.

The Next Karate Kid is a stupid movie ... But inoffensive at the end of the day. I actually watched it on Netflix for the first time in decades over the weekend, and yeah ... Dumb, but innocuous. The movie is really short, too. But hey, I trust the showrunners of Cobra Kai so much at this point that I would actually mark out if Hillary Swank shows up. If the show can do something cool with her that adds to the movie she was in, then why the eff not? I'm down!

The most amusing thing about The Next Karate Kid are the villains. Their existence makes no sense. They're, like ... The student police? What are they, exactly? And what public school would approve of this kind of program? Haha. But hey, I got to see Mr. Miyagi vs. Michael Ironside for a few minutes, and I did enjoy the acting chemistry between Pat Morita and Hillary Swank. It could have been a much worse movie.

The Karate Kid "remake" isn't a bad movie. It just should have never been called The Karate Kid, given that the kid learns martial arts in China ... Which means he's that he's learning Kung-Fu; he's The Kung-Fu Kid. It's obvious the movie studios wanted to name it The Karate Kid because of brand recognition, and it was really stupid. The movie really isn't that much of a Karate Kid remake either. It's difficult for me to even connect this movie with the franchise at all. It truly does feel like it's own thing if you ignore the title.

There are some virtue signalers out there who have asked the Cobra Kai cast if Will Smith's brat son or Jackie Chan will appear on Cobra Kai. They have absolutely no place in this series, for crying out loud. Luckily, Ralph Macchio and William Zabka seem pretty dismissive (but polite) over those dumb questions, though.

Will Smith's talentless son is the worst thing to ever happen to the Karate Kid. Jackie Chan didn't even fucking teach him Karate, it was Kung Fu. That's chink shit, not jap shit.

i did get the feels when Robby broke down, feeling extremely guilty teaching this kid how to defend himself and just ended up turning him into another bully. the heart to heart with Johnny was also a nice moment.

I honestly didn't really dig this season except for the last couple episodes. Those fights with Hawk were fucking phenomenal.

I don't get why they had to get Carrie Underwood though when there's scores of 80s artists still alive. That whole thing felt out of place.

On the other hand, maybe that might explain why she starred with Clint Eastwood later in Million Dollar Baby. It could be interesting if Hillary Swank do a little cameo appearance in Cobra Kai.

I guess some of these 80s artists asked a bit too much for royalties?
