Cobra Kai

I'm surprised how no one brought up how Cobra Kai gave us this fucking awesome cover of Cruel Summer :

I'm also surprised how fucking good this show was. I was expecting to hate it because thus far all reboots/remakes from my childhood have been soulless cash grabs and sucked, but Cobra Kai is surprisingly excellent and I don't even mind the high school kids. I really like the more involved character study of Johnny and his journey from spoiled but abused rich kid to piece of shit bum back to self redeemed and and recovering his self respect.

I started watching the series on Saturday, and I breezed through the entire thing in a span of 3 days. Not unlike so many other people, I also grew up with the Karate Kid movies. And, in my opinion, the first two movies have aged well and they are films I still can easily enjoy as an adult (and not as a guilty pleasure). This was a show that I had been meaning to watch for a while, but it just escaped me because I wasn't motivated to actually pay for YouTube.

After watching the finale of Season 2, all I have to say is: Holyshitholyshitholyshit. That was insane. Aside from Better Call Saul, I would say that Cobra Kai has become my favorite show that's currently running. Waiting until next year for Season 3 is going to be torture!

This is a show that nobody asked for. Nobody was calmoring to find out whatever happened to "The main bully from the first Karate Kid movie." You'd think that there would be no story interesting enough to tell, right? Well, as it turns out, this show has become something that nobody knew that they wanted until they saw it ... And now it's one of the best goddamn things on TV.

This is how you subvert expectations, everyone. Damn. I am totally blown away by how much I fucking loved these two seasons.

I'm shocked, but this turned out to be one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. My biggest hope is that they cap it at 4 seasons and plan out an ending to make this truly great and don't fall into the trap of trying to drag it on longer than it should.

I ended up watching the first episode. I'm probably gonna watch the rest because it's pretty fucking good. Watching Danny become kinda full of himself and treating his karate as a marketing gimmick for his car lots (which I think Miyagi-sensei would disapprove of) and watching Johnny become the scrappy underdog is one helluva way to subvert my expectations. I've heard a bit of people talking about the show, including that nobody is really a "good guy" as Johnny is now teaching the same toxic shit he learned from his own sensei, but he's empowering those who desperately need it. Meanwhile Daniel is so afraid of the re-emergence of Cobra Kai he's willing to do some shady shit to stamp it out.

What really helps is that it actually FEELS like an 80s series made with modern equipment. The writing, the cinematography, it's all very reminiscent of the 80s.
So yah, probably end up watching the rest of it, hoping it's as good as that first episode.

An absolutely amazing "reboot" with plenty of soul. I love everyone in Cobra Kai's corner worth talking about, especially Hawk despite his turn into a giant red dick. Johnny is exactly like what a good man weighed down by his past faults acts like. LaRusso is in a mid-life like crisis where the great success of his past is making him forget how successful and good things are in his present. I adore the two mothers of the series for being sane people who view their lovely's dojo rivalry as completely fucking retarded. Robby's mother can go to hell though, fuck that bitch. I feel bad for him despite his total shitty attitude towards everything but ultimately it's his choice to act like a prick and kick a man while he's leaving in peace. Psycho nugirl needs to chill, but I get where she comes from when she straight up shanks a bitch. Said bitch also plays the nice girl act so hard despite blowing off her best friend for a spoiled brat, only going back to her after she rose in social clout, and responding to agitation in spite of her dojo's peace fighting contradiction rule. More or less a female Danny but without the goodwill of thinking they're doing the right thing.

I can't think of anything to say about Miguel because he feels like a completely normal well-adjusted person caught up in a lot of other people's bullshit that pays dearly for his drunken mistakes. Not really my favorite character, though he does seem like a stand up young lad. Even his slip into douchebagdom lasted for all of two or three episodes spawned by jealousy he quickly got over.

While the season 2 finale was good, I kind of hated how Hawkman got beat by a complete lightweight whiny rookie after going through half of the entire fucking school on his own. Little bitch spent the entirety of two seasons being nothing but an unmotivated smartass that got some social clout from hanging around Cobra Kai before fucking off after he ran his soy boy protocol in front of psycho man Kreese. Feels like a final insult to the Hawk after he painfully realized his oneitis moved on and with a girl he tried to hit on no less.

I'm so glad the show is on a better platform than YouTube Red (fuck off with that shit). I watched the first two seasons and loved it, but I knew its reach was limited because who the hell is going to pay for Youtube?

Being on Netflix has given it a wider reach and now more and more people are realizing "Oh shit! This is really fucking good!" and that's great to see.

The downside though is Netflix supports the fuck out of pedophilia.

Still gay as fuck that the next season has been done for literally months now, but they haven't released it yet for literally no reason.

Having just finished Season 3, I have to agree that Netflix should end the show with a fourth and final season.

As while I still enjoyed it, I feel that Season 3 retread a lot of the same ground from the previous season.

Oh shit, I forgot they moved the release and it's out today. Thanks for the reminder.

Already four episodes in season three and I'm enjoying it. But I have some minor gripes.
one they did ayesha dirty. Guess those rumors about her firing were true.
Two, already doing the will daniel and johnny make up or keep butting heads.
three. Sam and dimitri are still the worse characters both from miyagi dojo and series itself. It ticks me off how Sam'sthe one who hasn't really been called out for her bullshit.
The one neat thing so far is that they're showing brief moments of kreese's early life which are well made. And while we lost imo a good central character they did trim the fat off with unnecessary characters especially considering the themes of this season.
Mrs. LaRusso is honestly one of my favorite new characters alongside miguel tbh.

Watched the first two episodes. Husband and I had to force ourselves to stop watching after the second episode or else we'd probably be up all night watching the rest of the season.

The first two episodes were goooood. I'm immediately hooked again. The show really knows how to make it easy to bingewatch; every episode ends on a note that makes me go "I want to know what happens next!"

I liked how the first episode immediately addressed a lot of the questions that viewers had about the bonkers season 2 finale. The explanation of where the teachers were during the entire fight was good enough for me to be like, "Ok, cool." I loved the season 2 finale, but I am aware that there are some people who thought it was too much. I think the season 3 opener is a good followup to the insanity that took place.

El Mantarraya is far beyond the capacity of this show, my friend. Just mentioning him brings greatness and fury.

See that's the funny thing about stingrays....

....They lie and wait for the perfect opportunity
to S T R I K E!!
If the cast recorded reaction to the school fight scene was any indication, even they loved the Stingray. Just something about the most off people in the group playing things up to an insane level that makes them the absolute best, like my boy Hawk.

So according to the subreddit since they seem to keep up with a lot of the bts. They had filmed scenes of him for s3 but they cut them all out. On one hand that sucks but on the other they did give a good (and funny) reason for his absence and since this season in particular is about the aftermath with the kids it would've definitely not fit. Here's to season 4!??.
