Cobra Kai

And asking for Asian people to show martial arts in Cobra Kai as one Youtuber in ClownfishTV mentionned and is right on target.

Demanding an Asian lead in a martial arts story just reinforce the stereotypes of "All Asians Know Kung-Fu". These weirdos didn't realize how racist their thoughts are
Btw, I doubt then that journalist who did that article practice what she preach.

This season kinda jumped the shark for me a little even though I enjoyed it in spots a fair bit.

There's just too much silliness and not enough weightiness to the story, it's just tonally a mess and impossible to take serious. The great thing about the original movie is that it felt like real people in real situations. Sometimes the people in Cobra Kai feel like real people but increasingly these don't feel like real situations. The stuff that's played for drama just falls flat, like Kreese in vietnam, it's just too heady for the way the material is presented. The stuff that's played for cheap laughs is too self aware, like Eagle Fang dojo. Johnny's son in prison is the only thing that hits the right note in my opinion.

Cobra Kai is too "TV" now, it needs to be more 3 dimensional.
I get what you're saying, but only the original movie was like that. The sequels got cornier and cornier as they went on.

He has a point.
Just watched first season. Love it. Going to binge the rest of it this weekend Ithink its like Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, you can see the motivations of the characters and understand why they do what they do. I avoided spoilers in this thread but I want to know one thing.

Danny's son, does he have any character development? Or is he always just annoying?

Finished it, for the budget this was produced on and compared what is usually shat out by Tinseltown this series is really great: it is indeed decent character-/storyarc writing and good perfomances.
It even has little tidbits of good advice/thunk provoking moments without being preachy with a diverse cast.

Most of the self-aware levity and funpoking at current issues („non-binary is this a prankcall?“) feel very organic instead of forced.

This show must be really grinding some gears in Hollywood and in Media Journalism.

I do hope they finish it up neatly with season 4 to avoid overstaying their welcome, but very decent entertainment. Kudos.

My only nitpick is the ungodly amount of patience Amanda shows towards Danny when he starts rehashing another Mr Miyagi anecdote. Most spouses would have smacked his ass to cut it out long before that. xD

Didn't they do that this season when Daniel went to Myiga's home village. Chozen pretty much taught Something new to Daniel.

I really hope liberals stay away form season 4. I bet this show being this popular really pisses them off for the fact it makes fun of them and everyone loves it.

Also I think this show really does well with how Myiga was a father figure to Daniel. I never like how liberals always say how black person can't be raised by white people or Hispanic people can only be married to another Hispanic.

This show really say fuck you with that. With both what I said above about Daniel and also Johnny becoming sort of a father figure to Miguel.

I'm shocked the NPCs haven't "REEEEE'd" at the series for promoting "toxic masculinity."

Johnny is obviously a father figure of Miguel's. Their relationship is the heart of the show as far as I'm concerned, and the moments they have together are among my favorite scenes of the entire show. Cobra Kai depicts male bonding as a GOOD thing a lot of the time.

The moment with the Dee Snider cameo: That scene was a "father and son" bonding moment between Johnny and Miguel, where the proud Dad even lets his kid have a beer with him. Again, I'm shocked the NPCs haven't clutched their pearls at this already. And once they do, they can shove it.

I gotta say, for as much as I adored season 1, season 2 wasn't as strong, and season 3 nearly lost me. I'll stick around for season 4, but...

  • Hawk. Fuck you, show. Fuck you right in the ear-holes. You tried to make a conflicted character "fall", but you made him fall so far to evil he made Angsty Ani blush. I mean, exaggerating to some extent, sure, but he was so far beyond even plausibly sympathetic that I just hated him. Which is a shame because I liked the concept behind his character. And "The bullied becomes the bully"? It works as a story arc. But not when you send him straight through "bully" into "deranged psychopath".
  • Whats-her-name, the evil Cobra Kai student. Again, doesn't work for me. Almost did. Almost. But then the school "raid", and... nope, nope. Again, went straight through "bully" to "deranged psychopath".
  • I don't care what Kreese told the police to get a restraining order against the Larussos... His students have lead multiple, public, demonstrated, coordinated assaults. He would be shut down.
  • The fights are just too hollywood. The original movies actually were fairly good at showing that fights like that are short and end painfully. These kids are taking beatings that would make Bruce Lee cringe repeatedly and not even getting bruised from it.

Watched season two yesterday. I have one nick pick.
How come Johnny didn't get arrested for assaulting the salesman at the dealership. Multiple witnesses.

I understand why he did it though.

Without spoiling too much, they do address some of that stuff in Season 3.
They imply that Johnny has been arrested multiple times offscreen for his antics, including for beating up those kids in the first episode.

Demetri is the least likable protagonist I think. I don't think Robbie is very likable either though.
Robby is the son that gets set the fuck aside for some Ecuadorean douchebag who tried to bully him for the better part of a year.

He has every reason to go down the Cobra Kai pit trap.

I never said shit about his motivations. I was saying that the way he's acted is very unlikable. It comes across as super bratty. The character arc itself is fine and makes sense.
