Since Columbus Day has become so "controversial", there has been a movement across the country to replaced Columbus Day with holidays such as "Indigenous People's Day", or as I like to call it, "Red Niggers Day". Many people have disagreed with this, and a national debate has sparked. So the Kiwis must now vote on the FINAL name of this Monday off in October.

I voted Three Day Weekend Day.

Why? We all know this is what people care about when it comes to holidays. How much time off do I get. Also, there's many people who just care about sales too. It' s Presidents Day and those Egyptian cotton sheets are 30% off!

It's time to stop lying to ourselves about why we like those little red squares on the calendar. The truth will set you free!

Lack of historical understanding is pretty infuriating. People are screeching to both keep and remove the name without knowing why. I vote to change the name to something else, not because I give half a fuck about natives but because Columbus was a literal genocidal retard.

Columbus didn't prove the world was round, the classical Greeks knew that, and institutions of scholars knew the size of the world to a fairly accurate degree. The reason they called Columbus a big retard is because he pulled a number out of his ass that was approximately half the understood size of the earth, and naturally, everyone said "lmao nigga there's literally just thousands of miles of ocean, you will die." Columbus got lucky and found two unknown continents.

When he did make it to Caribbean, he enslaved a shit ton of natives that had initially been welcoming, and simply told them to bring him gold, with no further input. Well, naturally, since we talk about the California and Alaska gold fields, and not the Cuban and Haitian gold fields, Columbus, who still thought he was in India, was disappointed when there was virtually no fucking gold on the island, and knew those goddamn filthy Indians were hoarding their massive mounds of gold, so he started mass executions in some of the most fucked up manners possible, including chopping off the hands of all the members of a village and forbidding anyone to help feed them. Naturally they died from infection or starvation.

Some people with no historical context might defend him by saying "Well, let's judge him against his contemporaries! After all, Tommy J and Georgy Dub owned slaves and were based and tradpilled!" No, lmao. Even Columbus' most senior men thought he was a literally insane maniac and their fear that one day he would chop their hands off and leave them to die in the jungle is well documented in their journals. That's the other thing, this nigga was stringing up anyone that happened to find valuables and didn't immediately turn them over to him. Even his own men weren't immune to his batshit insane murder sprees.

In conclusion, Columbus was a literally insane retard that got lucky, and died before he discovered he found the Americas and not a new route to India.

Edit: I should give numbers for scale. This wasn't him occasionally wiping out a town. This dude was responsible for the deaths of likely over 100,000 natives, out of a population not even double that. Estimates say that between outright murder, starvation, torture, or natives simply killing themselves and their own children to escape being tortured to death for gold they didn't have, something like 60% of the population of Cuba and Hispania died between 1492-1508.

Well said. The guy was a massive cunt and we should not celebrate total cunts. I don't support replacing Columbus Day with anything involving indigenous people because simply being in a place before another group of people is not an accomplishment and it doesn't grant anyone special privileges or consideration. But if people want to replace it with a holiday that doesn't celebrate Columbus, that's great. Just call it Historical Truth Day. It will be a day of remembrance when we remember what an evil bastard Columbus was, how violent the Native American tribes were with one another well before anyone colonized North America, the role of Portugese Jews in the slave trade, the many times when the United States illegally invaded other countries or staged rebellions in countries, etc. We could also dedicate a portion of the day to pointing out that modern ethnic Japanese are descended from Han Chinese invaders who stole Nippon from the natives a very long time ago.

The day shouldn't be renamed or else it's going to eventually end up starting a slippery slope where anything at all named after Columbus has to also be renamed. We've already seen it with the proposals for DC statehood under the name "Douglass Commonwealth" to replace District of Columbia. I'm surprised there haven't been big movements to rename Columbia University or even the nation of Colombia yet. It's just too much of a shitshow and the people who are trusted with renaming "problematic" things in 2021 never come up with anything good to replace them with.

I think if the woke truly had their way, America would be dissolved into a global "community" (one world government), American flags would be replaced with rainbow pride flags, and Columbus and other "problematic" white men of history would be condemned to damnatio memoriae.

Columbus deserves a day after all he was the first one to go to the new world, come back alive and kickstart a generation of explorer's.

But he enslaved the natives and mass executed them for gold. Well what's the actual Story what's the first and secondhand accounts of his time.

Columbus solely ordered the execution of peaceful natives and brutally enslaved them. Columbus led 3 ships with hundreds of men at his command. Blaming him solely for what his underlings who were plotting to kill or undermine his authority is exaggerating The evil Columbus did. Here is a good video explaining more in depth.

Columbus wasn't white, he was Italian (not white).

Martin Luther King Jr had a dream and that dream was a day off school!

Why isn't there an options for "Fuck the Jews, I'm going to work on Monday anyhow."

I can smell your bias.

Keep it as Columbus day. Its not his fault Indians were pathetic, weak and lost.
Columbus didn't "discover" anything; he enslaved indigenous people, killed them and then colonized their land.

That said, please stop saying we're on "stolen land." That was centuries ago.

So he basically beat indians at their own game or rather did what everyone else did in that time.

That might all be true, but it doesn't matter. It wouldn't matter if Columbus was actually a thousand times worse than how you described him or if he was actually a good boy who dindu nuffin. This entire situation has nothing to do with an Italian guy who got a boat 500 years ago. This is about a group of people who are trying to alter our culture and traditions for their own purposes. Either you are with these people or you are against them. That's all that this is about.
