I'd heard. He's been around long enough that he can see his Tom and Jerry cartoons being released on DVD.

Speaking of, I've been trying to find a copy of "Cat on a Hot Thin Groove" - his jazz-related cartoons from the 40s and 50s. They're pretty good stuff but you need to be a jazz fan, and a particular kind, to understand them.
 
I've sort of been on and off with comics, currently I barely read any but when I was a teenager I read a lot more. I never really liked superhero or action comics much although if the art is good enough it doesn't really matter too much.
Some of my favorites would include Ivan Brunetti, some assorted Swedish(Which has a surprisingly active comics scene although sadly, like so many other things, it's often heavily politicized) artists such as Joakim Pirinen; and of course Hergé.
I also read an excellent biography in comic book form about Olaf Gulbransson called Olaf. G (English version has the subtitle A Life in Pictures) by Steffen Kverneland and Lars Fiske which i loved.

I'm still reading the Archie reboot and this page is a good example of how cool Jughead is in it.

so i know this is a little early but the jessica jones trailer
holy shit

you know I like the idea of showing a superhero having to go though depression after all of the things that a villian who makes Loki, the kingpin and some third villian look like playground bullies.

Yea, I mean the Alias comic was pretty dark. I knew they were gonna have to nerf that story in some way for TV, but damn it still looks pretty gritty.

Actually from what I've heard from the NYCC screening it's going to be daredevil levels of dark.

It was the day I saw Zombie Spider-man rip out kingpins stomch.

Ah, weird coincidence, I just re-read an Edginton/D'Israeli graphic novel that I wanted to recommend. It's called Scarlet Traces. It's a sequel to War of the Worlds, in which stolen Martian technology left over from the invasion has resulted in a new industrial revolution and a British Empire that's more powerful and more corrupt than ever before. I realise this is science fiction blasphemy, but in some ways I thought it was superior to the original novel - the characters are believable and well fleshed out, and I found the ending genuinely moving.

There was a further volume, The Great Game, which I didn't think was much cop, and the creators have gone back and adapted War of the Worlds as well.
 
I don't get to read a lot of comics due to not having a lot of time or money, but I love American Vampire.

I'm between the new captain america controversy
on one hand i'm not a fan of doing nothing about imagration.

but on the other hand everyone is fucking overreacting. from no poltics in comics why can't they go back to punching hitler" and the fact that we can't call a racist group that has been seen as the clan in marvel comics for years evil is annoying.

that said I have a hunch the twist of this comic won't be secretly the chinese government was funding these guys.

I think politics in comics can be done well as long as its subtle and done well. The optimist in me hopes they won't screw it up.

That's the thing though politics in comics have hardly ever beem subtle.


People love to rag on Frank Miller's Holy terror. but no conservative never really look at stuff like Nuke and how the us army maybe in league with crimnals.

People ignore he fact that poc and minorites have used the sons of serpants to play a double bluff.

People seem to ignore the the secret empire.

You think the guy who wears the colours of american flag with wings who has a falcon e, to be subtle.

Also why the hell are we getting another falcon? no seriously the current Captain America Sam Wilson aka the Falcon is getting replaced in his original role.

Don't you just "love" when comics pull this stuff? (BTW, I think these are from the same comic that did the mansplaining thing with the pop star who hits her stalker.)
