#Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Here's the publisher/paper-shortage anecdote I'm going by. He's printing this in the US to avoid Chinese censorship of the subject-matter so that might matter, he's quoting 6-8 months.

Aw man. When you posted this, I had my hopes there was gonna be Ian McCollum/Forgotten Weapons comic. Where his superhero identity is Gun Jesus.

I'd unironically back that. 🤣

Especially if it weren't handled by Comicsgate.

Some things to consider regarding the length of time for printing, in lieu of the shortages, is how big the printing company is (a mom and pop shop vs a chain of 2 stores vs a nationwide chain) as well as how many orders are being fulfilled. I have been consistent from the start that American creators to go with American printers (and in my case, local, so that i establish a relationship with said printer) which would help boost our economy and the indie comic scene. While i get why some went the China route, the problems that came with it to me was not worth the risk, especially after the Wuhan Virus hit (man, it feels great to type that!)

Ian's crowdfunded books are a good analog because they're picture-heavy and printed on quality stock. He had a scare with another book announcement a couple months ago where he decided to publish the account of a Ukranian soldier during the 2014 Donbass stuff. Almost immediately after the announcement the author was outed as a full-blown Nazi (as UKR soldiers tend to be). Within 12 hours poor Ian went from announcing an exciting new book to somewhat distancing FW from the author to cancelling the project outright to deleting everything related to it and never mentioning it again. I legit felt bad for him, that was a bad, bad day.

I'm imagining paper supplies as a commodity that effects all printers somewhat equally (i.e. they all source from the same suppliers). Is that not the case?

It could be the case. I'm just wondering if a company like Staples which has more resources and options available to it since it's a bigger corporation (and hence has more access to money) then a mom and pop shop. I'm not saying this is the case but it's something that might help or hurt the turn around time for printers if this paper shortage thing isn't fixed anytime soon.

And I'm well aware that no serious comic book publisher goes to Staples for books. I'm just using it as an example to help illustrate my point.

I'd say harassing me for 3 days for the crime of joining a discord server is a "bad look".
nope. not true.
Everything you've said is wrong and not accurate. I can just imagine you sitting at your keyboard hammering away, hoping jon notices. simping full time most be hard work:) hope it comes with benefits.
show me where I called somebody sexist... or a nazi. i'll wait. forever.
zack never said anything about Piper and Piper and I are working on a project together, so just stop.
I got off of twitter for 24 hrs because I was doxxed on this site and I freaked for a sec. it's human.

Lying, doubling down, and projecting. yawn.
go back Overmind and enjoy the scifi ride jon has planned for you.

YBZ launched his latest clownfund campaign for Iron Sights 3 and Impossible Planets 2, because the franchise of gritty noir action and sci fi adventure actually link somehow and made over $20K in the first day.

He also has a video about page rates and (timestamped in the video below) unleashes one of his most savage roasts in 2022

I didn't follow all the #gates, but does anyone remember that website "Comic Book Resources" and the CBR Forums? in 2014 there was a huge controversy because of some female writer criticizing (?) a Teen Titans cover that lead to doxxing or something like that and the forums were reset?

I've only found one article from a "credible" news source written about it in 2014 by "Noah Berlatsky", EDIT: and it turns out that dude's a pedophile.

Why don't Bahr and Jon just make fun of each other? Cancelling someone for quoting /pol/ memes and trying to say that he's using the boomer glow in the dark honeypot Stormfront is retarded.

He's not even white anyway.

If Jon got mad because (((Matt Bahr))) drew parody art of him then that's also gay.

"You're an SJW"
"No you're an SJW"

Be funnier.

This dude is a pedophile.

Most recently, writer Noah Berlatsky was taken in as a director at Prostasia. Berlatsky previously came under fire for writing an article published in New Republic under the title “Child Sex Worker’s Biggest Threat: The Police” in which he lamented the treatment of “children engaged in survival sex” by police officers. While fighting corruption within the justice system is certainly a valid issue, at no point did Berlatsky note the obvious fact that children cannot consent to sexual activity of any kind, instead spending his article suggesting that children forced into prostitution were willing participants in an oppressed, but legitimate, trade.

@robo6 guess what Noah Berlatskys background is? Whether or not the holocaust happened with people like Noah, I see why a nigga would.

Yeah, I thought there was something off in him when I noticed an article of him talking about his troon daughter. Low and behold, he's a pedophile. But what else from self-identified male feminists/SJWs.

I guess the only other source I've seen was an old discussion from the GameFaqs forum. A lot of it must have been scrubbed off the internet then.

This dude is a pedophile.
The scary thing is I don't think Berlatsky actually faced any consequences for his pedo support. Faggot is still writing for MSNBC, CNN and other "reputable" publications.

We live in a clown world.

Sounds like a good question for Kenneth Rocafort, who joined CG a couple of years ago. He's the one who drew the cover. No one really asks him about the time a mob rallied by some pedophile tried to cancel him though.

Oh, Jamal, at least the actors bring that dough and they get compensated for. At least if it were Mark Millar, he at least writes good fun stuff that people want to pay for and enjoy. Unfortunately the actual creators are most dead. So who is left? A bunch of failed at life leeches that have nothing to worry about, because they also fail at creating.

Good luck getting Hollywood to agree to pay out of a gross receipts. Especially for comic book people. You have to have considerable pull to get that. Normally they agree to net profits, apply "Hollywood Accounting," and then claim the movie lost money. That's exactly what happened with Stan Lee and Spiderman (2002). He had to sue Marvel.

That being said, you're right that most of the actual creators of the characters in the MCU and DCU are dead now. So while Hollywood Accounting is disgraceful, Jamal doesn't really have much of a valid point here anymore.

It made almost 28 thousand so far. Not bad. I was kinda hoping for Zack to struggle getting to the finish line again.

Yeah, but who is the "actual" creator of Captain Marvel? The guy who created the original Captain Marvel? The guy who created Carol Danvers? The guys who worked on the specific comic series the movie is based upon? What about the editors who tweaked the design and characterization of the character? Every artist who made have added a design feature to the character or costume that was used in the movie? Every writer who added a personality trait or piece of backstory?

When it comes to comic book characters, there are too many hands in the pot to determine who the "actual" creator is. Especially when 95% of Marvel's new characters are just derivative versions of existing characters.

Oh, he has an answer for that. He claims they keep track of who contributes to what for legal reasons. I suppose that's possible. @FROG would probably know.

I think what he clearly doesn't grasp is that those files have a notation next to many of those names that says "deceased." He's specifically even asked about older work.

Sometimes the creator is not the defining artist.
You can credit Rob Liefeld as the creator of Deadpool, but it was Joe Kelly the one who defined him.
Lee/Wood for Daredevil? Try Frank Miller.

Batman? We got a tricky situation here...

He may yet. Mind Your Business struggled because the "Theosophy" bullshit doesn't really land with a lot of his backers outside that core group of Zacktards who will gobble up anything Ya Boi farts out. The rest of them are waiting for books they were actually interested in to arrive, all while watching Zack pimp the boring "ripped from the headlines" crap he seems to like doing more than the stuff that actually made him money.

Iron Sights 2 and Impossible Stars each had six-figure campaigns (2020's Impossible Stars being the last YBZ campaign to reach the six-figure mark) so you'd figure sequels to those books would gather around that level of support and that a campaign offering both sequels would land somewhere in the $150k-$200k area. However, if you take into account the damage Zack's weird practices and wild shifts in attitude have done to his brand over the last couple of years, coupled with the revelation that he spends $25,000 to produce a single floppy and that his fixed goals are generally his "break even" mark, it kind of changes the definition of what a successful Zack campaign is.

On paper, the follow up to two six-figure campaigns being rolled into one should be highly successful. But seeing that Zack has decided to run it in a 9 day window with his usual lack of promotion and coming off the worst campaign of his career with older books still not delivered, I can't see this being anything more than a middling effort.

Zack may get his $50k by the end of the week but I'm not sure this campaign could be considered a success if it makes less than $100k, which seems likely to me.
