The whole "catering the reseller market shit" was one of the early signs that Comicsgate was absolutely lost about why the American comic industry was actually sick. It wasn't just because of SJWs. They weren't even the main issue, really. The true causes of the industry's decline were the same ones plaguing it for decades: variant covers and "debut issues" flooding shelves while trying to reel in collectors and speculation reseller whales, stupid crossover events constantly fucking with continuity because of editorial retardation, lack of (actual) diversity of genres that cater to demographics outside of boomers who like capeshit, and the comics themselves being isolated to only comic shops which naturally repel the normies who used to make up the majority of comic sales before the medium mostly became a hobby for "divorced middle-aged dentists" as Meyer likes to say.

Shit was already broken before those niggas showed up.
I wrote something like this a while ago. Nobody wants to stand up for SJWs, but it should be noted from time to time that SJWs didn't break the comic book industry. Making everyone gay and black and giving all the women puberty blockers was just the last, hopeless, desperate roll of the dice to revive the industry, because normal people hadn't been reading comics for almost 20 years at that point.

This observation must stick in Zack's craw, because every 10th or 15th video since forever, he makes a point to note that the industry was PERFECTLY HEALTHY IN 2015. This is laughable, of course. "It will be years before our core customers finally die" is not a business plan that a publicly traded corporation would ever or should ever embrace.

Comics mortgaged their industry in the 1980s, which had been zeroed in on ten-year-olds at at the supermarket and drugstore for 50 years, to follow Gen X into adulthood, both in content and business models. The bill came due like it was always going to. Hell, it bankrupted Marvel decades ago.

So it's wrong to make comics for an adult audience? I'm not really understanding this.

He sure sounds like a mentally stable individual. Seriously, he doesn't even sound like the same person from his early days.

i swear to God if he actually uses full pages other people's comics this retard is going to be sued into the fucking dirt.

So it's wrong to make comics for an adult audience? I'm not really understanding this.
It's not "wrong," but you can't just pretend that the thing that you like is blameless in the financial situation because you happen to like it, as Zack does.

As other posters have mentioned (Incecticyder on this page) that the kind of "adult" probably had a lot to do with it. Capeshit rode a certain style very hard, now described with terms like "Grimderp" and "the Dark Ages". However yes, even if they had toned it down, they would have had to square the circle of their stable business model and Olympic leotard characters with the fast dollars they wanted to make on adult stories.

But the content is moot, because much more relevant were the embrace of Adult business models mentioned by MikeyNohMore on the last page.

variant covers and "debut issues" flooding shelves while trying to reel in collectors and speculation reseller whales, stupid crossover events constantly fucking with continuity because of editorial retardation, lack of (actual) diversity of genres that cater to demographics outside of boomers who like capeshit, and the comics themselves being isolated to only comic shops which naturally repel the normies who used to make up the majority of comic sales before the medium mostly became a hobby for "divorced middle-aged dentists" as Meyer likes to say.

Moving most of your product to grimy boutique stores frequented by creeps and run by a Simpsons character, changing your manufacturing model to what were basically NFTs sent back in time 40 years, and requiring readers to buy 3X as much product to stay current, are all acts inimical to an existing audience of 7-14 year olds. We'll never know if they could have served both audiences because most normal people of every age ditched them as soon as they realized how retarded this all was.

Zack made a video about this
I watched Zack's video on the subject.
"ALL SALES ARE FINAL- My Books Aren't War Bonds In Your Culture War"

A couple of observations:

Zack seems to think the entire world should revolve around him, his whims, and his problems. Zack's customers exist for the sake of Zack and whatever is most convenient for Zack's life and business model. It's very strange listening to a guy who used to talk about how Gen X people like him understand the realities of the world better than these Millenials and Zoomers, and this same guy sounds exactly like some entitled kid on TikTok complaining how all of his problems are everybody else's fault for not catering to all of his demands.

Zack thinks that somebody trying to cancel their order is an outrageous, unheard of concept "that would not fly in any other industry." He then proceeds to justify this assertion by talking about how on several occasions he has ordered something on Amazon only to immediately change his mind and try to undo that order, after which Amazon tells him that all sales are final.

(Apparently, Simple Zack cannot see the fallacy of his analogy. If you order something on Amazon, you are making that purchase with certain guarantees in mind. One of those guarantees is that you will receive your goods in a timely manner, and that if the merchant fails to provide your goods in a timely manner, you're entitled to a refund. Does Zack imagine that anybody is still waiting for a comic purchased via Amazon for two years with no recourse for a refund?)

Throughout the video Zack very indignantly and self-righteously insists that he has a real business, "a legitimate publishing company." He also mocks people who rely on parasocial relationships with their customers. But this entire video relies on an implied parasocial relationship between Zack and his customers, where his customers are just supposed to excuse all of his fuckups, because Zack is having this friend-to-friend chat with them.

No, Zack, you are not a real business when you tell your customers that they aren't entitled to refunds, because that would complicate your spreadsheet data.

You're not a real business when you tell people that they can't just expect you to not make mistakes with their orders, because you try and make the excuse that your brain starts to get loopy when you spend more than an hour trying to work with spreadsheet data. (How do other businesses manage their inventories???)

You are not a real business when you try and brag about how late your books are, because you claim that people who release books on time all have bad quality products, unlike yours' which are "fucking awesome." (As if nobody in the profession world is able to adhere to a release schedule.)

A legit business would send a polite letter to it's customers begging them to please excuse their mistakes and to be patient with them as they try and hurry to remedy the problem. A legit business would not create a video where they mock and attack their customers, while also offering a litany of excuses where the customer is just supposed to give the business a break, because business things are hard to do, ok.

I've gotten an out of print book custom bound in fucking India, in a more timely manner, from a website that looks like it was last updated around the time where India was still a part of the British Empire, and even that was faster than Zack & co, get their comics out.

Zack calls you a retard
Zack is screaming into the void here, because he has far fewer views than those Youtube channels that he hates. Let's compare:
1727073968066.png
10K views, and this was closer to the start of "Zack's ego causes him to shit on his own viewers arc," back when people just thought he was having a bad day or something. Before they realize "No, this is him, this is his channel now."
1727073563675.png
2.6M views or 2.3M views, I'm showing two different numbers because I'm not sure which is the exact equivalent of Zack's Dial of Destiny video.
1727073779572.png
(1.2M views)
1727073869047.png
(270K and 87K, even Az is ahead of Zack)

So when Zack starts telling what is left of his audience that listening to these guys as critics is retarded, he is talking to a tiny fraction of their audience.

Oh, and one last thing, Disney created these videos:
1727074450296.png
(14M and 17M)
Purely to shill the movie, and they got much more views than even the Critical Drinker.

And finally, the control group:
1727074907546.png
MovieBob comes in at 26k well over Zack's most watched Indiana Jones video.

All Hail Bob.

So what does this tell me. The "birthday party clowns" (to use Zack's forced meme) have some clout and can probably lower the box office by a small amount. They are not enough to really tank a movie though. Zack, however, has no clout at all and is basically irrelevant. If Disney was looking to bribe someone with a gig at Marvel, The Critical Drinker and Gary are the ones who should be approached. Zack should never be approached, ever.

I'll be nice. Zack here thinks it's more important to be a catty bitch than just being a businessman. Does he know that another thing that wouldn't fly in that industry (normally, assuming it were a healthy market - it isn't.) is this sort of pathetic response? Suppose you try to get a refund from real businesses, assuming the reason is legit. In that case, Amazon (only because he thinks he should compare himself to them) won't send me an email screeching about how my refund will halt the assembly line and they can't do it...
I have seen this sort of response to reviews on really bad yelp pages like Kitchen Nightmares level restaurants. Also feedback responses from bad Ebay sellers right before they get banned, I think they got rid of that response feature though. Funny he brings up amazon and wants to compare himself to them, maybe he should just use amazon to sell the books... more on that...
also, when Richard says you can make a profit off reselling his books on eBay what he really means is you can lose half your money on them or if you're really lucky almost (but not quite) break even.
There is a problem with Zack and most of comicsgate where all their complaints of mainstream books are the content, the writing, the art. You hear these hucksters say "I just want to make great comics" or some variation. But then it's always sold as a valuable collectible to justify high prices and that runs against the whole selling it based on content not a collector gimmick. Convincing people to spend the inflated price by lying about the ebay resale value. I think it would be better for Zack to sell the books just as plain books on amazon. But he had other pre-comicsgate self published work thru there and maybe he ruined his account there or something. I don't see why he wouldn't just sell his back catalog of plain ass books there, they don't have foil covers or any gimmick. Only probably to keep up the you bought a limited collectible ruse.
Zack is screaming into the void here, because he has far fewer views than those Youtube channels that he hates. Let's compare:
It's even worse if you compare the Splatto Del Gatto channel. He must be really confused why that didn't take off. He doesn't have a chance because besides being Richard Meyer, he has almost zero production, no live streams, no camera shots. You don't even get a burrito on a lap in a filthy car camera shot anymore. No cross promotion by appearing on others channels. Plus the bizzarre name and he never recovered from the first rebranding from Diversity in Comics. We know it's you moron "zack".

I disagree. Bankrupty came because they fired Jim Shooter. Jim was known as a tyrant and a dictator but in hindsight, he was the only sane man in the company. Example: Jim tells them to have Jean Grey destroy a random star to demonstrate her power as the Phoenix. The brainiacs at the comic have her destroy a planet full of life instead because they misunderstood/misheard and in one fell swoop ruin her character forever when they could have asked Jim to repeat himself. They hated him because they did not like how he wanted things done in a specific way and was rejecting their ideas. One year after firing him, after they started doing whatever they wanted, Marvel went bankrupt. To me, it sounds like a bunch of kids complaining about their parents getting them a babysitter only to demonsyrate immidiately why they needed one in the first place.

The other business decisions did not help either though. There were many sources for this fire.

Grimderp is not really aimed at adults but edgy teens under the pretense of being more "mature" and "adult". Shounen manga has had more mature stories than grimderp does and is still aimed at the same demographic while garnering an adult audience as well. Just take a look at how many francises birthed during that era that still have a mainstream following. Spawn? Wildstorm? Gen13? Anything from Rob Liefeld 's Image stint? All of them are niche among niche at best.

The whole "catering the reseller market shit" was one of the early signs that Comicsgate was absolutely lost about why the American comic industry was actually sick.
That and most the Comicsgate comics professionals couldn’t act in a professional manner.

That’s all they had to do be professional.

Now it’s just gay slap fights all the way down.

This: Why not just give the people their refunds, print the books, and then resell them, Zachary? You'd make a profit even!
The only practical reasons I can think of he's not profiting off his back catalog is he's banned from IngramSpark or maybe he had back end deals with his artists or something where they get paid again for a second printing. @robo6 could fill us in on that. It makes no sense if even a hack like @Fandom Pulse can manage to sell his back catalog continuously why Simple Zack couldn't.

I've sold $4,200 in back catalog books just this month so far!

Interesting if true. Maybe this is the norm. But I'm kind of wondering why he's going through Dixon and not the publisher. Perhaps that is how Castalia House is set up. But I seem to recall Dixon saying he's writing three Conan books for Castalia. Not he's going to have three books published by Castalia. So I would think it's Castalia paying Dixon to do the books. Not him submitting them and he gets a percentage of sales. Although that may still be happening either way. And is it normal to do art without a contract?

Beyond that, I'm a little happy they didn't go with Lawlis since I'm not usually a fan of his art. I'm starting to wonder if I have more of an issue with the coloring though.

So looks like Lawlis finally got paid. So all is well again.

Somewhat related. But with all this talk about artists not getting paid. That seemed to be a sticking point with Keown and Mandy. Did EVS go after her like he was with Flash?

He's complaining about Hal Jordan should be a geriatric again. Nigga Superman hasn't came out yet, dude would he 64 by the time they actually start doing shit with green lantern. Nice to know he still uses twitter.

Pot calling kettle. Richard created and attracted the audience and he's now doing his best to "purge" said audience. That's why he's losing subscribers and barely able to fund his comics.

So it's wrong to make comics for an adult audience? I'm not really understanding this.
It's not a matter of wrong, it's that catering mainstream superhero comics exclusively to an older audience means the younger generation's interest in them hasn't been cultivated. Hard to keep your product selling if the audience is getting older and the kids don't give a shit.

At some point it became acceptable for adults to stay interested in the shit they liked when they were 8. Adults have jobs and money, so the people who make kid's products ended up marketing to grown men who for some reason still want to read about Green Lantern. This is why you see an attempt to reboot He-Man every couple of years despite the fact that He-Man is old and fucking retarded. Kids don't give a fuck about a 45 year old glorified toy commercial. Grown men who want to see a He-Man show/movie need to be put on a list. It seems like a large portion of the entertainment/pop culture industry is marketed towards this kind of arrested development.

The sad thing is that there are fine comics geared towards adults and they've existed for decades, but the vast majority of American comics readers are made up of middle aged assholes with shitty Decepticon tattoos who read Power Rangers and TMNT.

Did EVS go after her like he was with Flash?
Take three guesses.

He's complaining about Hal Jordan should be a geriatric again. Nigga Superman hasn't came out yet, dude would he 64 by the time they actually start doing shit with green lantern. Nice to know he still uses twitter.

LMAO, I seriously get to the point with this old faggot where I wonder is it even worth it? He'll never win this little one sided crusade, his dwindling fanship will keep sucking their own dicks and nothing will get accomplished while they complain about a much larger group just making videos and fostering a successful version of the very thing this lowly piece of shit WISHED he could.

Enjoy your traced book about other people's work, and the other slop you dumb retards get given (at his convenience)
