What the fuck is he talking about? I haven't heard of EVS, Dicky Meyer, or Doug TenNapel bragging about buying cars or shit like that. Raising money on the promises of a product and then blowing it all on dumb shit is what YOUR side does, honey (See Zoe Quinn's game, Anita's DVD's, Kiva Bay's feminist deck, most Anti Comic Gate books...)

"Cheap format". Oh, like the hardbound covers with sleek gold lettering like Doug did on his book that actually shipped, at great expense to him? Or the extras that EVS is adding to Bloodhoney?

Also, what is your problem if they keep the excess money as profit? If they deliver the product as promised, they're free to keep it. Are they supposed to redistribute to the poor whales who can't afford blue hair dye?

Honestly, this guy is just assmad that Deadbeats is still struggling to meet its goals while TUG's book is making mad dollars. Maybe if Deadbeats didn't hire insane harpies like Ren or Mags, or targeted people who actually BUY COMIC BOOKS instead of the broke-n-woke crowd, it would be more successful?

I don't even try to keep up to date on CG streams anymore, but I have seen EVS discussing getting a new house. (Apparently he had been renting before, which strikes me as kind of ludicrous for someone his age to be doing.) I haven't heard him bragging about it, but perhaps he has done it somewhere.

He's been talking about buying a new house for a while and it's probably smart given he's made 800k on a book that's not even out yet. He had one before but lost it after being unable to make mortgage during his divorce.

Funny that a veritable nobody thinks he has the position to lecture the guy who co-created Jessica Cruz, who will be pushed hard for the foreseeable future (albeit only because she is a "POC Women") and has made movie appearances, on success and staying power.

Part of the issue too is that those in the antiCG crowd that buy comics generally buy older comics. They only support the new crap vocally but they don’t buy it. If they did the actual sales would be better.

I caught that too, though is Dynamite "the mainstream?"

Well, regardless, at some point one of these more traditional publishers are going to let the money talk and be willing to take on one of these six figures, young lady books and (hopefully) not fold like a card table like Antarctic did.

I'm not quite sure what point he's even trying to make. If people are willing to voluntarily pay even more money on top of the MSRP for a one-off book they really want, why shouldn't the creator roll around in the money? It's not like they're doing anything underhanded, there is no sweatshop or dishonesty involved. If people can individually fart out one book per year, and survive off that, I don't see how that's worse than a whole team of people churning out endless books at an R. L. Stine pace. Oh, wait, this couldn't possibly be another industry shill. Of course the people who got booted from regular publishing like to brag that they can still reach an audience.

And Dead Beats looks like it will be the most cliche detritus seen since MySpace was a thing.

Ethan posted the floppy cover with a mock-up of how it’ll look & while it didn’t have the Dynamite logo, it had Dynamite’s current trade dress for the layout of the UPC box & it’s contents, the corner box design. It just said “publisher” instead of “Dynamite”. It’s almost 100% going to be Dynamite. He’s not even trying to hide it. He’s just not saying it.
