Speaking of books... I got my copy of the Ethan Van Sciver approved and promoted "Stealing Solo" today. It seems a particular fat Jersey bald headed sleaze was lying when he said the quality of the art was on the level of Joe Quesada during his livestream. It arrived without packaging and I thought it was one of the many spam Christmas catalogs. The condition is rough and it is unsigned.

However, it did arrive before my copies of CyberFrog and the Ashcans.

Stealing Soylo.

Here is another shot I took while I was reading the Stealing Solo book.

"Joe Quesada level art." - Ethan Van Sciver

I dunno? I mean I can definitely see a resemblance to the horrid art in NYX? But I thought Quesadilla only wrote that?

Not like that...

To be fair, this was one of the earliest art updates:

A rule of thumb for indiegogo projects: don't buy an indiegogo comic until you see the interior art. Any idiot can keep it together for a cover, but only a good artist will deliver on the interiors.

Both raised roughly the same amount.

Though, to be fair, Shinobi Sasquatch isn't out yet and Jeff is sending out all new books to backers.

How did this knucklehead raise $50K without showing interior art on the page?

NYX was Joshua Middleton. Now that you mention it, I can sorta see the resemblance. Though, for all of Middleton's artistic faults, I think his work is at least visually striking. This just looks...bland.

After D&C's success, EVERYONE suddenly had a book. TUG's is the one that made me laugh the most.

Years ago I watch some news show about investing or companies some shit like that. Anyway some talking head said this.

You got the 3 I's

Innovators

Then you get

Imitators

and then finally you get

Idiots

Personally there are far more stupid trend chasers I remember when lolcow andy warski tried to get into speed running games.

If this fucks can make a comic and sell it more power to them the only thing I dislike is that they try to attact Ipol as part of the sales pitch.

Oh hey, the two things I ordered came in on the same day:

Still not a big fan of extra gubbins, but Doug's really good at presenting them. Also not a bad poster of Xaxi that Yaboi put in.

My EWJ came the other day. Between the quality of the book itself and all the extra shit thrown in, Doug puts every other IGG campaign I’ve backed to shame (even Zack, much as I like the guy).

I can't say no to free gubbins especially when it includes a free comic. I honestly didn't expect a Bigfoot Bill 2 preview, that's wild. I got the superfan tier, so hopefully Doug gets to that soon since they hit the basics first.

Let's be honest the thought of packing in even half the shit Doug did would fry Zack's brain and put him into a panic. The guy is terrified of going complex, he was concerned about his Ironsights 2 campaign being too confusing at one point and that has like 4 choices. I hope he gets more confident, so he can try out more gimmicks

@KingofNothing I agree. I think Zack wants to keep things simple because he’s more concerned about the book itself and the fulfillment aspect of the campaign. I think as he gets a better handle on things he might branch out. He’s mentioned many times he likes collector’s cards, T-shirts and stuff like that (or at least acknowledges that other people like them), but I think he’s afraid of finding himself in a situation like the one Ethan is in right now.

The EWJ is really well done. The custom box is pretty cool, the poster is nice, the prints we're good. This blows all the other comics I've gotten out of the water. I just got Stealing Solo before this and even though they claim that was a mistake it was straight garbage. Solo was shipped loose.... No packing at all. Cover scraped to literal hell.

Did anyone else here pick up "Jawbreakers: God-King"? I got it in a couple days ago and I'm pretty disappointed with the whole thing. Meyer keeps doubling down on his "never explain anything" storytelling style, which is odd for someone who claims he grew up reading Image comics where everyone textwalled their history and powers in the first issue.

Specific issues I had with the whole thing:
- Why does Hellpriest have to use his own eyes as ammo for the God-Gun?
- If the God-Gun is a cosmic artifact, how come they were able to walk in and retrieve it off-panel in the previous issue?
- Since when can Knife-Hand knock down entire buildings with his power? I thought Silkworm and Kuffs were supposed to be the most powerful team members, and they don't seem to be at that level. And why didn't Knife-Hand use his powers against his father?
- What's the deal with Silkworm's daughter being a clone? Is that a reference to something? A lot of things in this series seem to be references to "real" superhero comics but I'm not up on it enough to catch them all. I did get the Fantastic Four/Franklin Richards thing at least.
- Meyer spent this entire arc making Silkworm out to be utterly irredeemable - dancing on the corpses of friend and foe alike, so bad that the pseudo-Venom symbiote (?) couldn't stand him, evil enough to be a serious contender for the Cthulhu Crew. And then they just have him mellow out, reconcile with his daughter, and live happily ever after?

On the other hand, things I liked:
- Silkworm and Kuffs' banter is usually pretty funny
- The way Silkworm outwits God-King was cool
- I liked the part where Hellpriest gets through to Knife-hand with his "hero speech"
- The action scenes with Knife-Hand were cool even if they were nonsensical
- Meyer uses the New York setting better than most Current Year comics, and actually grounds it in specific locations. Since he complains about this in his videos I'd expect nothing less.

According to "Just Some Guy", Meyer's prereaders raised the whole "nobody understands this" issue and he refused to change anything.

So... I dunno. I think these are (were) good characters and there's potential to tell fun action stories with them, but if "God-King" is an indication of how it's going to be, we're only in for disappointment.

Just got done reading EWJ. Fantastic read and package's design was cool. Apparently Ethan is going to do a similar thing with a fried chicken box. If he gets it out on time, more power to him, but at this moment Doug is killing it. Still waiting on Jawbreakers by YBZ but I have faith in him.

I guess when Malin's not around to ghostwrite the book, Ya Boi's amateurishness starts to shine through.

Also, considering how listless his recent video output has been, I suspect he may be getting complacent with his success. I can't speak for anyone else, but I would not have subscribed to 2019 Zack.

I can at least explain Knife-Hand's power boost; I seem to remember that he can put out more power, but he's tracked by some mystic order seeking to take him back as a captive, and if he does boost his cutting output, it draws them to him since they can sense that energy.

I think it was in his earlier shit; which is a bit of a bad move to do if you know not a lot of people read it. I still mostly had fun with it. It's flawed but pretty solid.

Clone thing though is dumb; why the fucking shit would you reference both X-23 and especially Spidey's clone saga? You don't need to hammer home that hard how you made Silkworm a Spidey Bootleg.
