If anything could convince ComicsGate backers to break the Kickstarter boycott, it'd be the perception that IndieGoGo screwed over a ComicsGate creator.I'm launching A High School Girl In The Crusades Kickstarter immediately. It's my hope CG will rally against deplatforming and support CG books.
As far as Crusade girl in High School is concerned, I think this campaign has a better chance of succeeding on kickstarter because Quaff is the artist and not somebody that is not well known or not known at all in CG. CGers and people who may not like Jon, seem to like Quaff and his work and want to support him(myself included). Also, they can rally around the Liam Effect like @SaidNoOneEver pointed out.If anything could convince ComicsGate backers to break the Kickstarter boycott, it'd be the perception that IndieGoGo screwed over a ComicsGate creator.
However:
1. The vast majority of CG backers have no idea who Liam is and don't care.
2. They also don't know who JDA is, and those who do, probably have a negative opinion of him right now.
3. Explaining any of this to a larger audience would involve showing JDA's (funny) Liam Gray parody material, and that might not go the way JDA wants it to go.
4. CG Creators are largely content and happy at IGG, and don't want to rock the boat AT ALL. Business is pretty good for all CG creators with substantial followings.
Me personally? IGG has been great to me, but 2018 CG drama is irrelevant in 2022. Most of the participants have been cycled out and replaced with fresh blood. Richard C. Meyer is a ghost around here nowadays, and I don't think he cares if anyone boycotts Kickstarter on his behalf or not. And I've always wanted ComicsGate to be able to go wherever we want.
Malin is against putting money in Kickstarter's coffers, as he feels discriminated against in their actions against Zack. But frankly, he wasn't even a factor in those attempts to deplatform Diversity & Comics, and neither was Brett R. Smith, the colorist of JAWBREAKERS LOST SOULS, who is actively using Kickstarter now with the Iconic crew.
ComicsGate customers, the ones that are vocal, seem to be against using Kickstarter too. Would some refuse to back a CG KS project? Would potential new backers offset that?
Who knows? But all of this will be fun to watch.
I might try Kickstarter this year. Out of curiosity. As far as CG as a whole, I honestly think at this point, its been long enough and there has been so much turn-over and flip-flopping and flopping back, that most of the CG masses wouldnt care about backing a campaign on kickstarter only or backing a campaign that is on IGG and Kickstarter. With the latter option they can choose which to back from. I agree, @FROG dosent need to use both, so why should he, but there are a lot of creators that could possibly benefit from a dual campaign strategy.

Meanwhile Kickstarter is a labor union breaker, which makes them far more based than IGGThat would imply JDA ever stopped using Kickstarter (this one was a not-so-subtle tweak at Jon Malin's "IGG only" stand against Eric Weathers and Clint Stoker at the time)
Frog as far as I can tell doesn't really care about the Kickstarter boycott personally, having supported Billy Tucci for years, who has been using Kickstarter the entire time without issue as well as actually advertising a KS campaign on twitter recently. But sticking with Indiegogo works far better for his specific situation so there's no real reason to change up his business model or spend the considerable political capital to rehabilitate Kickstarter in the eyes of CG for no perceivable benefit to himself. If someone else can convince CGers to back their shit on Kickstarter? Great. If the customers aren't having it? Also fine.
The real issue isn't Frog or Simple Zack (who I suspect never boycotted Kickstarter himself in the first place) or even Jon Malin, but the rank and file Comicsgate customers; much of early formative CG was spent defining itself by railing against "Cuckstarter" and it's questionable that the well can be unpoisoned at this point. CG creators can start launching their campaigns on Kickstarter all they like but it's anyone's guess if their established customer base will either go with it or just pack their bags and take their business to a different, IGG-exclusive creator. Few seem interested in taking the risk.
I was going to mention this also. That made me very happy.Meanwhile Kickstarter is a labor union breaker, which makes them far more based than IGG
All you have to do is make a Kickstarter exclusive cover and/or trading card, print, etc. Kinda like you do the channel member cards and the patreon cards. If the completionist wants everything, they will have to back the kickstarter.I might try Kickstarter this year. Out of curiosity. Would they kick my campaign?
Maybe I'll put a small Frog reprint book up and find out. And if it succeeded, that would pretty much destroy the embargo.
By certain recent videos, I don't get the impression that he cares at all about a kickstarter boycott anymore. It wouldn't surprise me based on the way he is talking if he soon went back to doing campaigns on kickstarter himself.Richard C. Meyer is a ghost around here nowadays, and I don't think he cares if anyone boycotts Kickstarter on his behalf or not.
Vikki issued a fatwa a while back that nobody is supposed to make fun of Liam Grey. This is also an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation. JDA is near the top of their enemies list at the moment due to JDA violating an earlier fatwa concerning people doing streams with the now long-dead Testefy.Apparently Liam was entitled to do what he did.

I don't know. He seems like an amicable guy who would be quick to forgive, but I recall him talking up IGG's features in his vids, and IIRC he also discussed IGG taking a smaller cut than KS does. And with KS's current comics czar being this lady (Twitter-using comics pros in this thread: has she already blocked you?), I'm not so sure a push by wrongthinkers into the KS marketplace will be successful at all save for maybe a few smaller projects that sneak through the cracks.By certain recent videos, I don't get the impression that he cares at all about a kickstarter boycott anymore. Were you waiting for permission? If we're all gonna try out Kickstarter, maybe I should put Creepsters up on there.
Its best to run campaigns on both IMO. There is a set of people who pay attention to comics on KS who don't go looking at whats on IGG for whatever reason and they are open minded about buying. The people who run IGG are no less political than the people who run KS. People should generally want to generate the maximum publicity possible for their books and you do that by being on both platforms. Yeah. Stuff happened in 2018. But that is a long time ago now and if there is money to be made on KS, there is no good reason not to sell there anymore. Is there anything really wrong with IGG being the place for comics actually intended to be read and leaving the lesbian bike-riding anthologies to KS? JDA's problems are unfortunate but they don't seem to be indicative of a larger movement against CG on IGG.
I know for a fact that they aren't indicative of anything against ComicsGate.I don't know. I wasn't even aware of this. If true are we still blaming Liam? We all know JDA's business plan is to piss off as many people as possible and then try to capitalize on whatever blowback comes from it. We also all know that the JDA/Testefy model is to continually escalate until such an over-the-top reaction is successfully provoked (and then cry victim, for dollars). If Liam kept ignoring these does anyone really believe it would've just stopped? What would've come next?JDA showed Liam's grandmom's address on a livestream. Liam complained, perhaps with some help, and after his prior complaints against JDA's "using his IPs" to promote his own campaigns, IGG probably felt like this was JDA's last straw, and deplatformed him.
JDA says he didn't know. The address was included in a complaint from Liam copied by IGG or YouTube(?) sent to JDA. So he's showing this complaint and he didn't realize he was showing Liam's private info.I wasn't even aware of this. If true are we still blaming Liam? Yeah Liam is nuts but JDA is just disgusting.
Kickstarter still only allows one campaign at a time and is more stringent than IGG. But for a guy who is the casus belli for a boycott of Kickstarter, "Ya Boi" certainly backs a lot of comics on Kickstarter what with his reviews of BRZRKR, his drawing inspiration from Octobriana 1976 by Ed Piskor to color 499, the drama that unfolded when Joe Glass learned Meyer was backing his books and positively reviewing them, etc.By certain recent videos, I don't get the impression that he cares at all about a kickstarter boycott anymore. So it was just an accidental doxing of Liam's grandmother during one of JDA's harassment campaigns for weirdo-bux? Alrighty then.I wasn't even aware of this. If true are we still blaming Liam?
