Yeah, I figured Shiny owned the rights, given that one of the Gods in Sacrifice was "James."
Well, they
did. They bought it from Doug in the first place (a deal he's claimed he came to regret). Like I say, there was a lot of corporate mergers since then, and Shiny as it's own thing is long defunct. I presume some corporate monolith owns it now
Basic bitch research suggests the chain of custody was Shiny -> Double Helix -> Amazon Games.
Of course, the EWJ rights specifically might have been spun off and sold to somebody else. I dunno. I just know for a fact Doug doesn't own it, and hasn't from almost immediately after the point he created EWJ.
As for Doug, if he could not be asked to not waste ink and paper on Chick Tracks and make centrist stuff that alienate no one (no one reasonable that is), then that is on him. We do not need to hear opinion pieces. Of course, EVS might have done more to push him away but I do not trust either 's word.
I wouldn't expect Doug to write "centrist stuff," nor would that be my expectation for anybody in CG. If they want to, that's fine, but it's not an expectation. I'm the guy that sees no problem with Lim's Thump books, and think it's dumb Ethan did. If that was driven by a desire to chase the "centrist market," that's dumb. I am pretty sure a lot of centrists voted for Trump.
In the end CG got branded as a right-wing movement anyways. So Ethan failed.
To be clear, I agree with Doug insofar as I wish corporate America would stop trying to ram LGBT shit down my throat.
Especially the T.
What ultimately turned me off of Doug, at least initially, was he was less about rejecting pressure to include a particular message, and more about wanting CG to be an active combatant in the culture wars.
Ultimately, that's where I think CG lost the plot. And rather early, at that. They should have just made fucking comic books. The core grievance should have been about overbearing editorial control in mainstream comics that stifles creativity and punishes wrongthink. Lim's Thump books should have been welcome in CG because they wouldn't have been welcome anywhere else due to industry politics.
But anyways... old news... All of that is quaint compared to the utter madness you see before you now. Now it's all about some bizarre need to kneecap a black guy and his mediocre non-lefty comic that had the audacity to outsell FROG's mediocre non-lefty comic.
Doug is wishy-washy on politics, did you see his appearance on Kino Casino?
He's wishy-washy on more than politics. His morality is way too flexible for my tastes.
