Here's some Grok commentary on Richard C. Meyer:

  • Meyer is a co-founder of Comicsgate, a loose, alt-right-leaning movement in comics that opposes "forced diversity" and "SJW" (social justice warrior) influences in mainstream books from Marvel and DC. Supporters view it as a push for merit-based storytelling; critics label it a harassment campaign against progressive creators.
  • Key Events:
    • In 2018, he was banned from Reddit's r/comicbooks subreddit for promoting Comicsgate, which moderators called a "hate group."
    • He sued comic writer Mark Waid over alleged interference in a publishing deal, leading to a GoFundMe for Waid's defense.
  • Meyer's work has thrived via crowdfunding (e.g., Indiegogo), but he's faced accusations of scams and delays in shipping (e.g., Impossible Stars took years to deliver).

Internal Comicsgate disputes
Internal disputes within Comicsgate intensified in 2024, particularly between Ethan Van Sciver and Eric July, over perceived imbalances in promoting independent projects versus self-interested ventures like July's Rippaverse imprint. Van Sciver publicly criticized July for leveraging Comicsgate's audience to market Rippaverse comics without reciprocally boosting other creators' crowdfunding campaigns, such as those on platforms like Indiegogo.[88][89] July's direct-sales model for Rippaverse, which raised over $1 million in initial funding in 2022 and shipped thousands of units by 2024, contrasted with Van Sciver's emphasis on crowdfunding, leading to accusations that July dismissed the latter as unsustainable for broader indie success.[59]
These tensions escalated into personal attacks, with Van Sciver devoting significant stream content to critiquing July, alongside figures like Yellowflash and Nerdrotic, framing it as a "war of underperforming indie creators against Comicsgate."[90] Critics within the community accused Van Sciver of self-sabotage, pointing to a subscriber drop of approximately 10,000 on his channel following the onset of these "wall-to-wall attacks" in 2024.[91] Similar rifts involved Nerdrotic (Gary Buechler), where Van Sciver's outbursts were linked to disputes over collaborative promotions and credit attribution, contributing to broader perceptions of factionalism eroding Comicsgate's unity.[92]
A focal point emerged around Van Sciver's Cyberfrog series promotions in mid-2025, amid claims of internal "meltdowns" triggered by platform shifts like Indiegogo's policies favoring direct sales, which Van Sciver interpreted as threats to crowdfunding-dependent creators.[93][94] Supporters of July highlighted Rippaverse's fulfillment successes—such as timely deliveries for Isom #2 in 2024—as evidence of viable alternatives, while Van Sciver's responses, including threats of legal action over alleged trademark issues in Eric July's promotions, deepened divisions.[95][59]
Such infighting underscores the inherent trade-offs in Comicsgate's decentralized, unmoderated structure: it enables candid critiques of industry practices but fosters volatility through unchecked personal vendettas, as evidenced by declining channel metrics and stalled collaborative efforts by late 2025.[95] Unlike corporate media's curated unity, this raw discourse has amplified authentic voices yet fragmented the movement, with no centralized leadership to arbitrate claims of credit theft or promotional inequities.[96]
[SPOILER/]

opponents, often from within the industry, have characterized it as a harassment campaign, a narrative that overlooks the substantive critiques of business failures and internal blacklisting incidents, such as Meyer's lawsuit against IDW Publishing.[1]
Meyer self-published the comic Jawbreakers: Lost Souls via crowdfunding in 2018, raising funds but facing subsequent legal challenges from publisher IDW over contract disputes.[43][44]
Meyer never sued IDW, nor were there any "contract disputes" between the two. The linked footnotes don't even mention IDW.
Comicsgate has quite enough actual crap piled on its plate without AI hallucinations adding to the mess. I haven't scoured the entire piece long enough to find further inaccuracies, but that one stood out immediately. God knows what else Grok got wrong in that write-up. Stuff like that is what will enable EVS and other CG goofs to say none of it is accurate.

He already hated on it last week.

I knew that... I was only pretending to be retarded.

Meyer is gonna hate this so much.
But Meyer used to say the same exact things. He talked passionately about the scams with lenticular covers where comic shops had to order stacks of unsellable floppies to get their hands on one of the special variants. He understands these things and used to say them himself. He's choosing to alienate his former supporters out of spite.

Yes, but now he loves NuComics so it's actually pretty cool in fact if you wanna know the truth about it

Zack is overlooking the reality that the old school guys learned how to simplify anatomy and composition because they had to meet DEADLINES.

I keep coming back to this, but it is a complete 180 stance change from Zach, where he used to say that comic book writers should be like the hot dog stand vendor. Now, being like a hot dog stand vendor (McDonald's) is bad.

The most thorough rebuttals of Richard 2025 were diagrammed by Richard 2017-2023. He made at least four videos on each of these topics.

I wonder how much of his bidness Eric owes these two hucksters' need to stem the tide of deserters from their endangered ministries. I've bought a couple Rippa books and they were whatever, Somewhere in the ballpark of Richard and Ethan, maybe half a notch below. But I never would have given him a dollar if Richard and Ethan didn't make the question of his comics' quality a long-running internet topic. (The rest of comicsgate combined doesn't amount to a rugby team's Discord server of course.)

I would humorously remark that Comic Gate has become more exaggerated and less sophisticated than BreadTube. However, I have observed that Comic Gate tends to exhibit a stronger anti-capitalist stance than the actual BreadTubers. Cova Lookout explicitly advocates for socialism among comic creators. I am surprised that more individuals have not ridiculed Tatoruzu on this platform. He has a long history of engaging in drama disputes, often involving mean comments criticizing him for taking TMNT too seriously and for kissing up to EVS, to the extent that he has had conflicts with his subscribers when calling out EVS. Tatoruzu opposes woke ideology, disapproves of racebending, and criticizes Eric July; however, he also opposes capitalism, viewing it as a woke economic system.

The impression I get about Absolute Batman is "Antifa Batman" like some really obnoxious person's Twitter handle. Now, that might be a mistaken impression, but that's the impression so far. Richard, of course, would be all in on Antifa Batman.

Imagine, even if only to own the cons, UNIRONICALLY watching Zack.
Also just some pedo.

Think of the stupidest Batman concept you can think of that doesn't involve him being mega gay, add TDS and you have Absolute Murderbat.

It's the story of the universe if Darksied reshaped it, and it's predictably turbo retarded and put all it's XP into EDGE. 1761844946605.png 1761844872564.png 1761845186497.png

I fucking hate this shit. The sooner people that write, draw, and enjoy this shit stop reproducing, the better the whole world will be.
It takes a seriously broken person to enjoy any of this, let alone dream it up. They belong in asylums.

Absolute Batman is giving the Injustice Superman treatment to the Caped Crusader.

Good God, this is what DC has been reduced to? Copying the ultra-violent 90's edgy independents that were only ultra-violent for the sake of it? Even down to copying the aesthetic and art style.

The skulls, the bodies. You give it all such a glow. I don't know if it's art, but I like it. — The Joker, Batman (1989)
