I have high doubts it's ever been said before, either here or anywhere else on the internet, but I think a metric fuckton of the blame for the current atmosphere of the comics industry can be laid solely at Linkara's feet. The current state of events in the industry is everything Linkara has ever advocated for. Just to show what an influence he is, here's some examples of artists slipping him into their books for a cameo.

Yellow Flash is more of a liability than an asset to CH. One of the lessons that CG could learn from GG is that being less toxic than the other side goes a long way to winning over the community.

People who pirate comics weren't going to buy them to begin with. It's kinda like how some computer games went over board trying to protect their games, but only inconvenienced and alienated their customers. In the end, the pirates still pirated. It's funny how quickly their defenses against piracy are overcome.

Part of this is that they're getting sold out. For example, in Mexico, there was a raid against an operation that was pirating video games. It turned out that insiders were helping them break consoles and games. A theory is that the companies involved knew that they were going to get pirated anyways, so they made money by selling out. The other is that it was employees trying to make a quick buck.

Comics are even easier to pirate and don't need sell outs. All it takes is screenshots and an electronic copy of the comic. Trying to prevent it is just a waste of time and money.

With a lot of the tumblristas who barely read any comics anyway, yes. I'll read scans online because I don't really have an LCS, and I'm poor anyway, but if I like a story I will try and save up to buy it as a trade.

Given the convenience of just reading scans online it's impossible to stop in any real way. I myself do it sometimes but I at least always get the trades when they come out. Gotta support what you like and all if you want more of it.

I read all eleven pages, and I sincerely hope this was a first draft that's been heavily revised since then. It's choppy, disconnected, and not exactly compelling ... Though I daresay it will be given a pass because it's a YA novel about a 15-year-old black transwoman with anger issues who's apparently slated to be given superpowers by a magical egg gateway into another reality.

The flat egg window throbbed and pulsed which made Gloria curiouser as well as further unnerved. Still uncertain if this was all really happening or if she had simply fallen asleep back home and was dreaming this all up, she was trying to make up her mind on what to do with the shimmering window before her.

Moral highground.

In terms of piracy, for what seems a large number of SJWs, pirating *is* the moral high ground - if you disagree with the creators. I saw a tweet from a lolcow saying that you should just steal shit from creators rather than try and consume 'vegan' - that is, not supporting anyone they find morally offensive.

Of course, this means that they can feel good about themselves pirating everything, because they find everyone morally offensive. It's exactly like when people - again, usually SJWs - defend shoplifting because it's stealing from large corporations and so you're inherently in the right to do so. And yes, this is classic 'it's fine when I do it' logic, because we all know the REEEEEing that results if they ever feel they deserve payment for something and don't get it.

I pirate, sure. Mostly for ease of access rather than anything else, but it's still pirating. But I don't think I'm morally in the right for doing so.
