The whole deal is basically not because of stocking, but instead of special orders. Stocking = Copies for the shelves. Special Orders = Copy in the pull list for the person who requested it. They said that even id people special order it they would ignore the order or make excuses for why they wouldn't get it.

It's pretty much a weeb vanity press for webcomics tier stuff. I think their titles max out at around 3000 units sold. Some of their books are incredibly rough, to put it kindly. A local shop dumped their old stock at a Salvation Army near me, nobody would buy them to flip, even at $1.

Usually the argument that people go to when justifying the diversity thing as "we're not taking anything away" is the fact that older material is always going to exist so you shouldn't complain about whatever happens to your series of choice or want future stories since by trashing the original character/s for some random female replacement means women will therefore be interested and you'll have a bigger market overall.

That's not how it works but that's the usual argument. It's "technically" fine since they aren't touching the already printed stuff you like, only pissing on its legacy.
