Anyone know what is up with this?
This guy has a major hard-on for slapping Ren around like a streamer, and has been talking about this 'massive info' for a day or 2.
Still nothing substantial asides from this, so I haven't brought it up yet.

Anyone got anything, or is this a 'wait and see'?

Oh Shit, didn't realize he had such a specific claim on that one. Then this guy is definitely likely to actually have something.

I can respect wanting to make sure a scoop is real at least. Not everyone can shrug off gay ops staining a reputation.

My bet is the leaker is her husband who has to live with this vile shrew, and is taking out his revenge in small petty ways in the hopes she finally bursts a blood vessel.

Poor King, post Batman 50 his popularity has taken a massive hit with general comic readers. Eh. If this guy's smart, he'll just keep to himself and there'll be nothing new to milk. Personally, I kinda feel bad for the guy; a stupid thing he did over thirty years ago lost him a gig. I understand the particularities of this case made it more imperative that Ethan cut him loose for the sake of optics, but at what point can we consider that he's probably not the same person he was back then? Even most murderers are eligible for parole at some point.

I remember watching one of Ethan's streams where he brought up that he lost his virginity at fifteen for some reason. Not sure what state he was in at the time or what its laws were, but assuming his partner was a friend or classmate around his age, Ethan might be an unconvicted statutory rapist too. Yes, there's a difference in the context, but perhaps not in the law. Does anyone still want to convict or blacklist Ethan for that thirty years later?

Ethan needs one too imo. His exceptionalism is growing by the minute.

Considering he's one of the most famous and successful independent comics artists alive, I think he'll be fine.

It doesn’t even need Romeo and Juliet laws to apply. R&J is typically a 4 year spread, so the fresh 18 year old kid doesn’t get popped for banging his 16 year old girlfriend on his birthday. But statutory rape requires one of the participants to be a legal adult. Kids fucking kids is not a criminal matter. (Unless the Sheriff’s daughter was involved. At which point somebodies getting a shit kicking.)

Well, as I said, the laws of each state are different. I have lived in at least one of the states where eighteen-sixteen was a felony and mandatory sex offender database registration (but eighteen-seventeen was less severe). That doesn't mean it was routinely prosecuted as such, but it could have been if you had a dickish enough prosecutor (and prosecutors win elections and get promotions for being dicks, especially against people that can be labeled "child rapists" and "sex offenders" if context is ignored).

Also, some states consider only the age of the female participant, so an eighteen-year-old girl with a fifteen-year-old guy was not illegal, but vice versa, or a fifteen-year-old guy with a fifteen-year-old girl, is illegal. It's all a mess.

But again, even someone who would have been outright convicted of stat rape of a consenting teenager thirty-plus years ago would probably be off probation/parole and the sex offender database at this point in most states.

He does. You'll find it in back issues of The Comics Journal circa mid-late 90's. Dave Sim was notorious for his views on women, particularly during the publication of Cerebus issues that made up the volume "Reads". Mostly text (which was controversial in itself) iirc, a snippet from it describes an evening soiree with another comic creator and his wife, Jeff Smith of Bone fame, gone awry after Sim calmly (and smugly) describes his theory of "The Male Light and the Female Void: Seminal Energy and Omnivorous Parasite".

To say the conversation went off the rails would be an understatement. Iirc Smith's wife took great offense, and during the ensuing argument Smith threatened to punch Sim and told him to leave. This was high drama in snooty comic book circles at the time, as fans and industry pros alike had to reconcile their respect for Sim's artistry with him being an unrepentant misogynist.

By this time the speculative early 90's wave that creator's rights advocates (which Sim was considered a leading vocal proponent of) surfed to great heights had come crashing down, and the comics industry imploded in the aftermath. Basically everyone left knew about him, but either they didn't give a fuck and live and let live, or he was persona non grata. Cerebus wasn't blacklisted from comic shops, but he probably wasn't going to get any offers from the big two either.

Anyways, can't defend his actions, but his intent. A man's blood is more soy than red if they've never seen a well developed teenage girl that stirs impure thoughts of waiting several years until she's barely legal.

He really never even wanted that, and was one of the few people who kept total creative control by owning all stages in the process and self-publishing. Much of his income was from those giant cheaply printed phonebook sized collections, as well as continual reissues of past issues, etc. I don't think he has to write another word to have an income even now.

Nuts or not, he's been pretty competent at protecting his business interests.
