Cursed isn't the correct word. Cursed implies some outside agency beyond their own control. As opposed to simply hubris and stupidity and an obstinate insistence on not believing the customer when the customer tells them what they want.

It was supposed to be a monthly title, then it got delayed into a bi-monthly title and now there's a 3 month wait period for the next issue. By issue 11 we'll be on a bi-yearly time table.

I'm beginning to think it's an actual doomsday clock and it's counting down to the bankruptcy and sale of DC comics at this point.
When I read the most recent issue I forgot what the comic was even about.

Given the statements put out by Marvel, early leaks from endgame (that Cpt. Marvel swoops in and saves the day) and the next stage rumored to be nuAvengers. His list isn't even in the realm of internet conspiracies at this point.

Do we know what IPs that DC are keeping on that rumored trimmed down list of available comics? Dropping from something like 69 titles to a rumored 22 is pretty huge.

Anyway another Shop owner has come out with a list of shit to fix in the industry.

I am not at all convinced that over the last two decades or so that even the minimum amount of effort has been put into developing editorial staff and support at the largest publishers. Most Editors are desultory at best at that skill set: instead publishers have been emphasizing traffic management and corporate synergy as the most important skills to develop. Comics are written to fill arbitrary holes in production schedules, rather than to be the best stories they can be. Creators are encouraged to write for page counts of pre-scheduled collections, rather than crafting each individual periodical release to be satisfying in and of itself, and only allowing the best of that material to go on to permanent book format collection.

Content is, of course, the thing we retailers can impact the least. “Make better comics” has long been a battle cry, but its out of our direct wheelhouse. Perhaps the cry should be to “Make better EDITORS”?

You know, something that's always funny to me when I see posts like this is that people like Kelly Sue Deconnick have a bit of a... reputation, shall we say, of being something of an asshole in real life; off-putting at best, and downright hostile at worse, especially to other women who don't toe the line with her. The Carol Corps shit and how much this "new female audience" Deconnick brought in shit on Carol's old legacy and other Monica/Monica fans is well documented, but way back during its release some of the vitrol spewed at women who didn't like Kelly Sue's Bitch Planet for ironically not complying with the narrative that it was smashing the patriarchy and a modern Handmaid's Tale was venomous to say the least. Not to mention she's friends with Kate Leth, who has a similar reputation of being extra shitty to women who don't agree with her. If I were to hypothetically name creators most supportive of women in the industry, Kelly Sue would be very low on that list.

It gives the impression that these chicks aren't interested in bringing women into the industry - or at least not the ones who wouldn't look good for their inner circle. Probably because, deep down, they know a large chunk of the reason they have a continuous stream of work is because they're The Girl Writer - the one that gets put on shit because there's just so few women in the industry so when they need a girl there's only like five names to pick from at any given time - and if that ever changes then they're eventually going to be out of a job should a more talented woman come along.

Also Gail's been doing this thing all week where she tweets shit like this as a "lol I don't even care about those dumb gators" but then like ten minutes later releases a 600-page long tweet about all the reasons she doesn't care. It's not really convincing if you have to keep coming back to say "AND ANOTHER THING," Simone. If you didn't care you'd just stfu.

While Jonas didn't specify what about the recent period was "challenging," IDW recently informed stockholders that Jonas loaned the company $28 million for "necessary operating costs" for its tv & film division, IDW Entertainment. In March 2018, Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall left the company, followed by Group Editor Sarah Gaydos in April. The company's President/Publisher Greg Goldstein exited the company in December, with Ryall returning to replace him.

I'm certainly no business expert, but I imagine the "challenging" part of being CEO of IDW would be trying to run a comic business (which is already a tall order) when the owner/chair of the board is pushing a TV/movie studio that is underperforming so hard that the same owner/chair had to loan himself $28,000,000 to keep it running. That seems like a giant albatross around anyone's neck.

I've been seeing it for a few years now. My assumption is they're used to things like Facebook and the concept of usernames is alien to them. They just want people to self-dox as it's easier to name & blame them. If they don't self-dox then they can be written off as "a bot".
