I think CG is missing a good reason to get back to making comics. I'm a broken record about that, but it stands. Some of you are moaning about how stale and boring CG and TFM streams are. No shit. They're a bunch of dull nerds and a handful of dull thots on a grift. No wonder the act is wearing thin. I praise and admire Tim Lim for getting Kamen America up on billboards, a draw for actual comic cons. Having said that the drama of Graveyard Shift getting printed during the China Virus was far more entertaining then the product itself. I don't pay close enough attention to know for sure but do any hardcore CG creators market to anyone outside "the community" actively? I get the impression that the CG community doesn't see marketing outside "the movement" as a worthwhile endeavor. I wonder how much money has been left on the table shunning SJW Kickstarter for slightly less SJW Indiegogo since KS makes up a much bigger portion of the indie comics buying pool.

It's like starting a restaurant chain on Rhode Island and refusing to open stores outside the state after it catches on.

I think the decision is justified. KS did their bit to make Zack feel unwelcome when he was starting his campaign (well the first of his in the "CG era"), and who says they won't just use the same jerk-around tactics in the future? And I think by this point they've done enough to make IGG the place to go, at least among non-normies, if you're looking for comics which aren't, to use a Zack-ism, lesbian bike-riding anthologies. And then when you factor in the reduced fees, I think there's a good chance that they've actually come out on top financially by this point.

People have it right. Ethan's shows are boring. He doesn't know much outside of comic books and he rarely talks about them. When he does, he's surrounded himself with people who agree with him 99% of the time.

Charlie’s London has the perfect opportunity for appeal beyond the CG clique- the life of Chaplin is of great interest to many, and an authorised, biographical comic is a great idea for an icon of the silent screen.

Tragically, she’s wasted that opportunity with the now-familiar ego-blowing of Ethan/his audience, and shoehorning her subhuman fiance onto her streams. Aside from Zack’s campaigns (before we knew a what a modern-day cunt he would become), Charlie’s is the only campaign I genuinely looked into backing; put off only by the fact she was an inexperienced first-timer.

For all the hate he gets, the rank-and-file of Comicsgate could do far worse than copy the Doug TenNapel business model and work ethic. Aside from Ethan, Comicsgate now looks to me like what happens when a bunch of deluded creatives think they can sell comics without the necessary reigning in from the project managers and suits.

Englewood's "success" was almost entirely because of Micah's status as a butt of jokes on CAPS streams. Even the terrible "Sleeveless Comics" name is rooted in jokes made about his appearances on CAPS. His whole image is based on getting made fun of for showing his pale, flabby arms.

Englewood 2 looks dead in the water, struggling to get to the $4k mark and I think that has more to do with Micah's current bout of self reflection than any real change in his attitude. Micah is the poster boy for Dunning-Kruger and a midwit at best, but he knows what side his bread is buttered on. He's realizing that hanging out on Boy Island with Blob the Builder isn't doing his career (such as it is) any favors and that has little to do with any principles Micah may or may not possess.

Instead, she launched her project on the platform of a guy that has been slandered as a racist who wants to kill Chinese people with a machine gun, selling to an audience that almost exclusively wants to buy comics featuring muscular guys punching each other and also big titties. Outside of this audience, there hasn't been a peep about it. I searched for info about the project and got very few results outside of a Bounding into Comics article, IIRC.

Yeah, but that doesn't keep his movies out of print and to my knowledge there hasn't been a major push to cancel Charlie Chaplin. The fact is that Chaplin still has a tremendous audience and the overlap with mainstream comic readers is probably not all that big. The audience for a Chaplin comic probably had more potential with classic film fans than it did mainstream comic fans and could have made more money if marketed properly to that audience instead of the Cyberfrog audience exclusively. From what I understand, she planned on selling the book in the gift shop of Chaplin's World, the museum dedicated to Charlie Chaplin, which doesn't seem to have been burned down or protested against.

The Chaplin estate doesn't hand out that license to just anyone and they understandably want to see it handled properly. Marketing the book solely through the platform of what is considered by the loudest elements of internet culture to be a right wing, anti-gay, racist movement probably wasn't a very smart move as it could have put the entire project in jeopardy. Turns out that even the internet SJW horde that watches CG drama like hawks didn't give enough of a shit about it to make a stink, luckily for Charlie's London.
