Oh boy this is exiting but I'm curios how they convinced EA of all companies to release the source code for anything
Probably because it's been static for over a decade now. The franchise is popular but they've done nothing with it, and their live-service games suck ass.

I haven't played any C&C in a while, but I love this as a move. I still remember my uncle sitting me down and showing me the OG Red Alert as a little kid, and me laughing maniacally when the tesla coils fried someone.

Someone on NH from westwood said that it wasn't so much EA killing the studio as them no longer doing shovelware (they made EDU shovelware, too) which they used to get devs up to speed or something.
I hope they re-release the good version of NFS Most Wanted from 2005 then. Carbon.... yeah I think it's passable enough to warrant a re-release. And it's not as broken as the re-release of the Sims 2. I heard they just put it on sale on Steam and it's broken compared to the pirated versions which is shameful and embarrassing.
EDIT: I mistook shovelware for abandonware.

I wonder what's the lore behind this one...

it's in NETDLG.CPP in the remastered collection

Holy fuck this is great! I would kill for a remastered version of Renegade, I have lots of fond memories of bumbling through the single-player mode in my younger days, may have even been the first FPS I ever played 😅😅

most people don't even remember westwood's last three games, EA closed it for a reason (which wasn't at the height of the studios' success just because they felt like it as it's often meme'd).

I liked a little bit of each. Started on Tiberian Dawn, Sun was too much of a radical jump into goofball sci-fi that I didn't like it. The opposite thing happened with Red Alert: having already played a lot of TD I didn't care much for RA1, yet RA2's style and over-the-top ideas made it tons of fun. Renegade was alright and probably had great multiplayer, but the singleplayer fell flat.

If not for TD, I probably spent most of my time in Generals and Zero Hour. ZH's different Generals really kept me coming back for skirmish and multiplayer, and I liked the unlimited resources since I didn't really play competitively. C&C3 was alright but felt very middle-of-the-road, distinctly lacking in parts where it really shouldn't have. Never played Twilight due to the unit unlock stuff.

It's a shame the only new C&Cs they make are mobile shit that revolves around microtransactions. A new classic-style RTS would be just what the franchise needs right now.

In your opinion, which side is based? GDI or Nod? Nod has a cool aesthetic but their backstory shows that they are mostly third-worlders, muslims, and communists.

The GDI are literally Blue Helmets though.

The answer is the aliens because they are above all this nonsense and want to enact THD and just wanna grill on their new cool terraformed colony with cool crystals everywhere.
