Are there any alternatives? I know the way back machine gets paid to remove sites, and all I can think of is outline.com which works for news articles.

Did a Fresh install of Brave just to confirm it, and yep, archive.md refuses to work with Brave. The hell is the site owner snorting this time?
Fuck that guy, got to open up another browser to read some archives. Not only does it not work, but it redirects you to another page so you can't simply copy the link and paste, you have to find the original link you clicked and copy that in. All of them seem to not work for Brave. .is, .fo. etc.

And no, I'm not switching to an inferior browser.

Edit: Apparently they initially blocked because Brave didn't fix a bug that specifically affected their site and only their site ASAP. Brave fixed it in a normal timeframe. Then they transferred the ownership of the domain to Russia, which gets flagged for fraud, losing out on tips, so they block it again.

"The retard who owns archive.md is basically trying to extort money from the Brave Foundation by blocking Brave users from using the site. That's most people on Kiwi Farms."

Haha, the optimism is strong in this one.
Originally I thought josh was being a bit autistic taking a side so strongly and trying to take on more unprofitable responsibility by making a backup archiving site, but...

I think it might be prudent for someone to start an alternative archiving site. Just feel bad for josh cus its going to be a headache for him.

I've been following the archive.today issues since they first popped up in June over in the Archival Tools thread, here's all the context:
The archive.md guy is now in a pissing match with the Brave team. Try loading the site with Brave and you get this:

Before being redirected to this url:

Apparently it's been nearly 2 months of Brave support not responding to his emails about transferring his urls between accounts to receive BAT again.

Edit 6/23/20: The Brave redirect has been removed and archive.md is working normally again.
I know it's not going to happen but I wish @Null had the resources for it. The archive.md just blocked Brave again as the feud continues:

Aryanization as it is - stealing about $1500 (voluntary donations of website users) explaining this with discrediting on a national basis

Seriously, if anyone happens to know of an alternative as functional as archive.md (outside of the wayback machine), it'd be great. The only other one I'm currently aware of is https://archive.st/ and it doesn't work with instagram.

The archive.md guy's going off the deep end responding to anons about Brave being racist and being happy to limit usage from 'toxic' websites.

Mind you, this is apparently after they already paid him the money. He doesn't seem to understand that all of the things he's bitching about are the direct result of the USA PATRIOT Act and not Brave having random racial hatred for a group of nations that just happen to be the global hubs of money laundering and cryptoscams.

I am an actual dumbass. Are all these archive sites, archive.md, archive.st, etc, the same site? Or are they different sites? I've always used archive.is, I've never even heard of .md

edit: it wordfilters .is to .md?

They're all alternative versions of archive.today. Although other web archive sites exist, all of the ones with this layout are under the same umbrella. There's quite a few domains that they operate under, including a .onion link (which I think would work with Brave via Tor, if you want that headache).

I don't know much about the fine details of running an online service, but an archiving service seems like a bad thing for Null to pick up. Anything that allows anonymous use by the general public is going to attract a horde of griefers.

Is archive.md itself stable, if you happen to have the right combination of browser, geographic location, and lucky stars to access it? Should we be more worried about mirroring or re-archiving what's already on there?

The only one of the archive.whatever websites that is independent is archive.st.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure exactly what the archive dude is on about, I never have been. What I do know is that I knew something like this was going to happen eventually. We've been relying on a possible single point of failure for years now, with wayback cucking to people who want that off the Internet NOW NOW NOW this guy was going to realize at some point that he had people by the balls. It's kind of fucked to take up the mantle of something like this and then wield it like cudgel for any reason or in any way that affects the end user experience.

Basically fuck this faggot and long live cwchive.

If Null does make his own archive site won't everyone just say the archives are altered/untrustworthy because it's run by the evil Nazi mentally challenged canine leader of Kiwi Farms dot net?

They already claim we're lying about everything so I mean, meh?

That explains why Archive.is was complaining that my Brave browser "wasn't supported", even when I tried switching user agents. Didn't realize it was an angry retard trying to screw Brave users over.
