For most of the world, today is simply the day before Easter or a Saturday. But for Americans, it is the Semiquincentennial of the start of the Battle of Lexington and Concord.

On this day 250 years ago, a detachment of British soldiers stationed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts marched from Boston to nearby Lexington. Instead of finding and destroying rumored powders stores there, the Redcoats were confronted by a group of Minutemen who gathered to halt them. The specifics are still debated, but what we do know is that someone fired a shot and a skirmish began between the two groups.

Forced back by the highly trained soldiers, the Minutemen retreated to alert nearby Concord, where fellow groups had gathered. Pulling back over the Old North Bridge as the British arrived in town, the latter would attempt to destroy all military supplies they found by lighting various buildings on fire, but only one of the three cannon stored was seriously damaged. Other resources such as powder and shot were recoverable in the aftermath. Seeing the smoke from town, the Minutemen, bolstered by groups raised from surrounding towns, marched back to stop the destruction. It would be at the North Bridge that the Minutemen and Regulars would engage in combat again, but this time decisively.

The fighting would be sporadic, but with their commanders wounded or killed, vastly outnumbered and in danger of being flanked, the British retreated to Boston. A group of hastily raised townsmen had unbelievably beaten soldiers of what was considered the worlds finest army. The response to the two battles would be swift: the news of blood being spilled would ignite the powder keg that was colonial New England into full rebellion. By the end of April 19th, militia armies would surround the British in Boston and begin a siege that would last a year.

The American Revolution had begun.

This post strikes me as more believable than the last one I posted, but it's kind of wild that the OPs proof is just proof that at some point in their life, they made a phone call to somewhere.

The same poster also put together a timeline that seems very thorough and makes me inclined to believe them when they say they spoke to the funeral home.
