Why would a Concord dev think anybody is going to take them seriously?

Hugbox mentality. We already knew firewalk had that, but honestly the argument reeks of it, it's not even saying marathon looks good, it's the equivalent to whining.

I think the truth is sadder than that, they absolutely think that people will buy the game only due to brand loyalty or "as a favor from a friend " if you become para-social with them on discord, twitter or reddit. Obviously, that failed but in their mind the game only flopped because the chuds bullied them.

It's frustrating because the suggestion someone could be that stupid makes me impulsively want to beat someone, but I ALSO realize I can't objectively say you are wrong about this theory.

What they don't realize though is brand loyalty for resurrection type games (over a 10 year gap since last release???) ONLY helps draw attention, it doesn't generate sales. Doom 2016 DID NOT sell well JUST because it's doom, it's because it was a good game in its own right. Had it been the same game but called "ANGRY green suit bastard" it would of STILL sold well. Maybe not AS good, but it would be well rated at least.

He's talking like he's some indie dev who rolled the dice on his passion project, instead of a tiny cog in the $400 million machine. The way he words his plea also sounds like he did it for the love of the craft, as if he wasn't being paid a salary for whatever his part in the disaster was.

Marathon looks absolutely shit but I don't expect it to flop quite as hard as Concord. It might last at least a year before they pull the plug.

They legally can't admit to failure because that would make the shareholders unhappy and they cannot lie to the shareholders as they would land in prison for that. Any dev still willingly attaching themselves to Concord is in 100% 'No, it is the gamers who are wrong!' mode and will never admit Concord sucked.

Reboots are the vidya equivalent of hiring a top lead actor. They guaranatee you an opening weekend. Then the word of mouth starts. If you reboot a franchise, especially after a long gap in time and basically piss in the face of the original fanbase (the only people who care about a reboot for its own sake), all your initial word of mouth is going to be bad.
