Concord - robots with pronouns

tbh cruise also sucked as a "nathan drake scoundrel with a heart of gold" character, not as much as tom holland...
That's what I'm trying to say. Cruise is a generally bankable movie star who can be relied upon to turn in a very Tom Cruise performance, but that doesn't mean putting him in your film means automatic success.

It's similar to the woke 'we put black people in [product] so you have to like it' shit, and equally stupid.

He shows this art from either an artist or a series called Moebius(?) which was apparently the inspiration for Concord's aesthetic:

I don't know about you, but all of these look like much, much better designs than anything in Concord. Reminds me of Asura's Wrath or the classic Final Fantasy illustrations.
I can see it. Concord is like Moebius filtered through any of a hundred Tumblr artists that only got any attention for redrewing existing anime/video game character as either fat mystery meats wearing sexless clothes or string beans with weird proportions. The only parts of Mobius to make it through is the widely varied shape language and strange color palate. It's basically missing everything that makes Moebius' artstyle work despite those things.

That said if you told me Concord was inspired by trying to mash cartoony TF2/Overwatch and Alegria/Corporate Memphis I'd believe that too.

I can see how someone on the concord team might have been inspired by that, but as people have pointed out it's far better in every way with concord being an incredibly pale imitation.
This guy rambles so much it's hard to really pick out things to specifically highlight, but it seems like the core of his argument is that Overwatch isn't successful because it has good character designs, people like the character designs because Overwatch is successful.
People like the overwatch designs more than they would have if overwatch had flopped, but if the designs were remotely close to being as shit as concord it also probably wouldn't have had the success it did.

There's about 4 minutes left in the video but I don't see it getting any better. If anyone else wants to try and dissect this nonsense be my guest
8:00 to 8:30 is mainly about how color theory works in video games and it would be incomprehensible to non-gamers (it isn't)

8:40 he compares the situation to people misunderstanding music until they repeatedly listen to it

9:10 he shifts the blame to their marketing department, goes to pointing out their competition, then color theory, and finally back to complaining about how an properly designed character would have singlehandedly saved a game at 10 minutes. And then blames the corporate hierarchy for ruining the creative process.

And then he shows off some concept art.

Seriously, why can't this faggot just stick to one subject?

Obligatory reminder is that this was supposed to be an assassin

Come to think of it, most of the cast are genuinely ugly to look at if you're just going by the design of their outfits. How are you going to pull off an grey tracksuit with an pink trim, anyways?

Or at the very least, use a completely different color for the resident sniper?

It was rarely technologically complicated. Like oliver onions mentions it looks a lot like Aeon flux, what popped into my head was ultraviolet, the milla jovovich movie cause that was futuristic sci-fi with too many saturated colors.
Chung explicitly listed Moebius in his influences, along with Herge (Tintin).

I think the first thought most people who aren't completely autismal have looking at these nauseating characters is to wonder whether these autists are completely colorblind.

The thing about these superstar actors (Will Smith would be another and I don't keep up enough to know who is today's version) is they don't guarantee a success. All they guarantee is an opening weekend. If it sucks, though, that just means word of mouth gets out faster.

And if you're in a series of flops, that star fades quickly.

Yeah, I was on the verge of saying that someone in the dev team must have been colorblind. Because in comparison to even a fraction of the Overwatch cast, everyone in Concord is either bland as fuck or has an extremely contrasting set of colors.

Honestly I think it was some queer coded BS. Similar to how feminists or queers have bright neon blue hair which is uncanny, its coding for "I am NOT normal".

Yeah, except that there's an certain degree of consistency to that nonsense; and with Concord, it just felt like an failed fashion trend

I think some of them could work in a game like Destiny where you throw on whatever gear makes big number go up without really caring if you look cool or not, and it doesn't matter anyway because you will only ever see your character on the pause screen or in the hub.

That doesn't really translate to the hero shooter genre where the characters are supposed to be the selling point and what draws you to the game, because they're all you're ever going to be looking at when playing matches.

People are still trying to sell their paperweight Concord PS5 games and controllers for WAY too high of prices, and some people even got them graded, although why someone would grade them is another story altogether:

Even one Japanese seller is trying to sell a copy at way too high of a price: (19800 JPY = $132 USD)

And some people are even trying to sell Graded Concord games with Graded Soy of War Ragnarok:

And this collaboration was a MASSIVE missed opportunity for both sides:

I'm gonna counter this point:

It's a long-agreed meme that overwatch porn is way more popular than the game itself. I don't see that happening unless the designs are truly exceptional.

I don't think it's that the designs are exceptional but more that a large portion of Overwatch's fanbase are autistic gooners and the female characters are really easy to make porn of because they're just skinny Pixar women in skintight outfits.

Article from Forbes saying a dev from Concord wishes people weren't as mean to marathon, says it sucked being the laughingstock of games.

Also this.

I don't suppose the Forbes "journalist" conducting the interview bothered to ask any annoying questions, such as "did you consider not making a horrible game everyone would hate?"

I kinda jumped the gun posting since the posted image is the same thing. It wasn't even an interview, it's just forbes amplifying a Concord devs message by republishing it basically.

Why would a Concord dev think anybody is going to take them seriously?
He's astonishingly stupid. After all, he's a Concord dev :story: Clearly that "we can do no wrong!" optimism wasn't thoroughly squashed by reality, so they're still walking around with it.

It's honestly fascinating to watch the "fake it 'til you make it" attitude persist like this after such a record-setting failure.
