Honestly, half of 'get woke go broke' isn't even the pandering, either. It's when the madness gets inside the house, and the worst aspects of it start harming the design.

It's not when they put diverse characters in the game, or when they put diverse people in the staff. It's when they put diverse people on a pedestal of being impossible to critique unless the critiquer is on an even loftier pedestal.

Yeah there’s so many meetings and conferences that go into every aspect of designing and building these huge project games. For every passionate game developer there’s a dozen people just doing an average job or is just there for a paycheck.

The things that stand out to players aren’t usually intensely ingrained core aspects that the whole team is working on. The ps2 Spider-Man 2 game is known for its unique webswinging mechanics but that whole part of the game was basically made by two people out of the hundred or so people that worked on it.

A lot of the issues of wokeness comes from a lack of cohesion between what designers are thinking and the ability to create a world that matches that. Hyenas failed to create a believable world where people fought mega corporate rule by stealing classic sega consoles because it has nothing to do with the design of the game. Marathon, concord, all of these megaprojects are completely hollow in both passion and cohesion.

That third image talking about their live service games is pretty funny. Even with Helldivers 2 being the bright spot, not only was it a fluke, Sony went out of their way to fuck things up only just yesterday unbanning sales of it on steam in 130 countries, because someone there finally convinced the retards at Sony after a year that maybe preventing half the planet from buying their only hit game is fucking stupid.

Also that FY24 gap where Concord would have been is fucking hilarious. Marathon is fucked, and I too hope Fairgames is released just so it can fail and be another embarrassment.

I think the article specifies Financial Year 2025, so that means they could push it back as far as March or April 2026, but that's still nowhere near enough time to fix everything wrong with Marathon (which is pretty much everything in Marathon).

I will be astonished if they go ahead with the September release date, but it would be very on brand for Sony.

Concord's absence, the idea Destiny 2 will continue to be sustainable despite Sony and Bungie's best efforts to ruin it, the ludicrous notion Fairgames is still coming out, and the fact that Sony apparently considers their baseball game to be a live service title.

A few of those games were cancelled in 2023 and 2024 before Concord launched, which means they were probably in far worse states than Concord was. Development time seems to have been 2-5 years, with only some of the studios shut down. Obviously the stuff cancelled earlier in its development cycle would have cost less as development ramps up over time, but it's still tons of money flushed down the drain with all of this shit added up(doubt we'll ever see a figure for how much).
