Concord - robots with pronouns

Obviously the stuff cancelled earlier in its development cycle would have cost less as development ramps up over time, but it's still tons of money flushed down the drain with all of this shit added up(doubt we'll ever see a figure for how much).
It's not just that they've burned money on failed projects, but that those same projects have eaten up time and manpower that could have been used for actually profitable games, especially since Sony is in desperate need of a killer exclusive that would justify the purchase of a PS5 to the niggercattle.

They had a dozen live service games being developed concurrently in the insane belief that at least one would strike it big, yet all the slop they were making was likely just as repulsive as Concord.

I don't think Sony has it in them to make something like Marvel Rivals, they'd probably have an insurgency on their hands if they tried.

Another issue is that they can't easily pivot away from their current doomed business model. They've shut down all their Japanese studios, who were largely responsible for most of their exclusives, and whittled down their first-party dev roster to about 3-4 big studios that can make one extremely expensive game per console generation, and far as I know none of those games have been actually profitable for them, or if they were the margins were so minimal as to not be worth it.

Their other focus is live action slop, but the kind that eschews fanservice and goonbait, so it's always going to be a losing proposition.

And finally, there's Horizon, the franchise nobody gives a flying fuck about, but Hulst will burn billions trying to make a thing. Also, it's no wonder him and Cuckmann get along so well, they seem to have the same taste in trannies.

A scifi game in development for 5 years and cancelled in January(studio by the name of Bend, never heard of them)
Bend Studio are the team behind the largely forgotten Days Gone, the Syphon Filter games and, most important of all, Bubsy 3D.

Sure, at the end of the day it all boils down to cash. Waste 500,000 man hours, it's just the same as money wasted at the end of the day. Same with making a studio spend 4 years to develop some bullshit only to cancel it and shut it down when they could have instead produced something that could have made money.

This is the real problem with the game industry as a whole(beyond just the woke shit). Executives running these companies act like gambling addicts. They'd rather invest 200 million on slop that takes 7-10 years to produce to try and come up with a new half billion dollar IP. Than spend 20-30 million and 2-3 years on a decent game that could probably easily make 50-70 million. But them game devs are surprised when some indie studio, or even a studio run by a publisher comes up with a hit game on a budget and they get angry and confused. Palworld, Schedule 1, Pirate Yakuza(which was a fucking asset flip for gods sake), Clair Obscur, Split Fiction, Vampire Survivors, Dave the Diver, Balatro, Baldurs Gate 3, even fucking Helldivers 2 published by Sony was a lower budget game that blew up and Sony out of complete retardation spent a year trying to ruin(they left basically half the planet unable to buy the game for a year on Steam, only in their retarded minds could that possibly make sense) it to the point where the devs have already stated they won't be working with Sony on the next one.

Worst part about this is that Hulst still looks good in the eyes of the rest of Sony because he can keep comparing that bullshit franchise to their "other games" which are practically non-existent for a game console that's already 4.5 fucking years old.

Interesting. It's fortunate that they didn't get shut down by Sony, but at the same time the only thing they've released in over a decade is Days Gone, before that it was some fucking PS Vita games in 2012. It's not like most if any of the people who worked in the games in the 90s and early 2000s that people actually liked are still there.

Unironically want to get a specific friend of mine a Concord shirt bc his friend keeps photoshopping one onto him.

Is it any good? I thought it might be a comfy trophy game to kill time with since I'm still catching up on old MATI episodes.
I think so, but I'm not a gamer, gamer. I think the combat is super fun, the crafting pretty neat, and it's fucking scary sometimes. I do think the storyline parts have an issue with pacing, but other than that, it's a fun time-killer. Aside from GoT, this may be the only one I actively try and trophy

Oh well, at least they can't fuck up Syphon Filter. Right?
They fucked it up with Omega Strain years ago. Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow, despite still feeling like og SF but with modern improvements, sold like shit and the studio decided it wasn't worth pursuing anymore, especially once Days Gone was not approved for a sequel.

I think they were also responsible for at least one Resistance game on handheld too. Possibly the PSVita one that was complete dogshit.
FTFY. I will not accept Retribution slander. By the way, Bend was not responsible for Burning Skies, that was Nihilistic Software.

I may be willing to accept this, because I played it on the PS5 emulator and apparently that version turns off all aim assist so the Bullseye is the only gun with any chance of hitting anything.

If I can ever track down a real copy I will post my updated opinion.

Are Fairgames and Marathon the last two live-service flops Sony is about to drop, or are there more lurking out on the fringes?
Project Gummy Bears. Bungie started developing it alongside Marathon, then Sony spun it off to some brand new studio while Bungie got stuck with Marathon. There's almost no public information about Project Gummy Bears beyond it being yet another big budget Sony live service attempt. Still, a combination of Bungie, Sony live service, and a brand new studio doesn't inspire much confidence that this will be a hit.

I'm sorry for interrupting the discussion of anything but Concord in the Concord thread, but I found out yesterday apparently an early build of the game leaked online.

Live-service failures are becoming an increasingly common sight in the games industry as publishers desperately try to capture the lucrative magic of juggernauts like Fortnite. We've seen countless high-profile releases, from the unfortunately titled Babylon's Fall to the less-than-triumphant Marvel's Avengers, collapse in on themselves after struggling to carve out a niche in the genre. But none have been as public a spectacle as Concord.

After just two weeks, PlayStation's flagship hero shooter was taken offline, while players were offered refunds as the game was removed from storefronts. Sony initially stated that it had plans to overhaul Concord for an ambigious future re-release, but those ambitions were quickly put to rest when developer Firewalk Studios was shuttered.

Bungie is now the latest PlayStation studio to be embroiled in a live-service controversy, as Marathon was indefinitely delayed after damning plagiarism accusations were brought forward.

Jump ahead nearly a year, and there's a surprising update to this controversial live-service saga. As reported by VGC, a playable dev build called 'FWChaos', dated November 14, 2023, has been leaked online, showing what the game looked like a full nine months before release. Much like with the retail version, you can't get past the login screen anymore, but since it's a pre-release build, you can enable a dev menu to bypass this barrier.

You Can't Really Do Much In This Version Of Concord, Either

VGC downloaded the build and tried out the pre-release version of Concord first-hand, but there's not much to see. You can access the Galactic Guide, viewing information on each planet, and a Crew menu, detailing each of the 16 playable characters, but the Job Board only features placeholder text, and the Store expectedly offers up nothing.

However, the Settings menu does have developer options for matchmaking, so perhaps we'll see this pre-release build used to revitalise the online scene for Concord. Though it's hard to imagine the misjudged 'Overwatch killer', with a peak player count of just 697, having nearly enough enthusiasts for such a project.

The only major benefit this version of the game has is that you can actually get into the main menu, but all you can do is sift through the menus of a game nobody is able to play anymore, half of which are unfinished. It's an oddity more than anything else: a glimpse into the development of PlayStation's over $200 million blunder.

I haven't been able to find anywhere to download it, but if any of you can and you're willing to risk downloading it, I'll update the post with a link.

it's going to be really funny when more people play the pirate build than played the actual live game.
