Cooking with Kat (and DSP) thread

I agree with you, I think if Phil had have mainly talked to his mom he would have said "I talked to mah mom!". I think he got dad and dad has probably been getting pissy having to support two households on top Christmas having to buy the gifts too. Probably told Phil he's going to have to consider getting his shit together at some point.

I don't know about this. I'm very hesitant to agree. I just get the overall impression Phil is exactly like his mom. A hoarder who likes to spree shop to escape reality. I don't know if she would back Dave up on that without caving in quickly, like before the call ended. Maybe a budgeting plan for Phil something like " We can only afford to pay these bills as well as a monthly allowance of *such and such* and we wont be giving you anymore than that." Type of thing. Cut him down a bit spending wise but I don't see her cutting Phil off from her teet.

In his telling, they "cut him off" in either 2016 or 2017 then flew him out at their own expense to give him another $4k in cash and explain how bankruptcy was a get out of debt free card about two years later. They've also paid for Thanksgiving dinner and Soulmare's birthday presents since then so it's very hard for me to see these as anything besides bluffs or at least major overstatements. Given Phil's entitlement and complete lack of shame it's impossible for me to think he took them seriously either.

Yeah if anything I'm pretty sure he will move back home before 40. Dad probably wants his son to be independent but he has no one to back him up or help him. I think Dave is going to end up moving into an assisted living facility when Phil moves back home. I don't know what Kat will do as junkies tend to just roll to the new dude in the area to support them so its possible she may not go with Phil but then again if she does move back with him she will have unlimited contact with Phil's mom and I think she could milk that to her advantage more so than now that is of course until mom dies and they are left with an over stuffed house to let the city wreck.

Obviously I don't put much stock in Phil's definition of being "cut off", because it sure as shit isn't what would constitute being "cut off" for anyone who isn't a spoiled asshole. It probably means they were doing a lot more than they do now, because I see a pattern of their help dwindling down to almost nothing. Would explain the resentful flex tweet.

Phil wouldn't have flexed on both of them simultaneously if it were a situation where dad said "No", but mom said "Yes". And maybe they haven't cut him off entirely, but there is definitely less desire on their part to help him.

I don't think it's just from being tired of doing so, either. I think Dave did some digging and is now onto Phil's bullshit.

I think I missed this before and it really does make you think.

I don't know what Dave would have found to bother them. I don't think Phil can hide how he is spending the money or if he ever even bothered to try...they know their son enough by now to expect it. They have been supporting him from infancy and Phil is now 38 years of age. I don't think a simple Gacha addiction would bother them too much if it wasn't for it constantly happening with Phil. Dave is probably now old enough to know he needs a break and no longer WANTS to keep supporting Phil's problems.

While Phil is getting enough money from his tips goals to fund the Gacha, I think that might be the kicker really. Whatever allowance they give him for necessities he has been wasting on WWE and he probably was told explicitly not to spend that money on his "habit" (that's what his streaming tips goal is for after all).

Its coming to a new year and a new tax time. He already has a lot he owes back and will be adding to it. His parents will have to pay that for him and they all know it. They are already paying his rent and utilities and probably have been for some time. They paid for his bride and for him to marry her. And yet Phil in no way has changed how he spends and is in fact getting worse based on his daily bill's needs and how his streams are all pretty much authenticating tips. That says a lot.

Dave is getting old .. He probably may have finally just realized he's being worked to death over his son's jpeg addiction. He probably wants to retire or something and not have to worry about being the main provider for four adults and a cat.

I just don't see them getting shocked or mad over much of anything Phil might do, they are just to used to it. I can see the father being drained of it and putting his foot down though with extenuating circumstances like their own living situation is in jeopardy somehow. Some sort of financial backing is going to be removed from Dave's pocket for whatever reason and I can see that being why they laid down the law.

Phil's parents have like a half dozen cats too. So four adults and a gang of cats.
Well, hell..... I am honestly laughing now. Thank you for mentioning that because I had no clue.
I just assumed his mom was a hoarder based on Phil's actions but knowing they hoard cats too...ah man. I do feel worse for Dave.

Who's the fourth adult?

I think Sparkletor meant they're supporting themselves, Phil, Kat, and the kitties. If you count Phil's junkie cousin/stepsister Melissa Dave is supporting five people, at least two of them unemployed or underemployed by choice, on a single salary.

I thought we found out that Melissa turned her life around and is a drug recovery counselor.

Has Phil ever stated why his mother's sauce supposedly needs sugar in it?
You put sugar in tomato sauce because it cuts the acidity. Sauce is too tart? Add a little sugar. Too sweet? Add a little more tomato.

You have to taste it and judge how much to add. Phil however just dumps everything in a pot and calls it good.

Has Phil ever stated why his mother's sauce supposedly needs sugar in it?

The two explanations he's given are that he followed her recipe verbatim but he noticed something went wrong while tasting it and that we can't possibly know how he makes it anymore because the video he uploaded of the 'tism sauce is from ten years ago. Both explanations throw Linda under the bus and "I changed the recipe" implies that it's not a secret Authentic Italian family recipe anymore so much as something he's cobbled together and adapted over the years (which is fine but you can't have it both ways).

Also you do need sugar (or a carrot if you don't mind the chunks) to fight the acidity, just not anywhere near that much. @sharpie is defending Phil's sauce in the Shitting Street thread by linking to real spaghetti sauce recipes and they usually call for a few tablespoons.

EDIT: Why you gotta ninja me like that Sparkletor?

So he never questioned the amount of sugar it supposedly says to add? Because if it says 1 cup, you don't need to taste it to know that that's too much. At least, if you're not a dumbass like Phil. And if it says more like 2 tablespoons, that makes sense, and Phil is even more of a dumbass.

No, but he did say when she gave him the directions she said sugar (she meant a pinch, it cuts the acidity and you literally ONLY use a pinch of any sugar) I think he changed it to two cups himself.
If it was pre written out for him it might have been a caterers recipe she gave Phil without changing the sugar amount. Though I know absolutely zero persons in the cooking industry who would ever tell someone to put two cups of sugar into a tomato sauce unless she was giving him a BBQ sauce recipe which I think is the likely case here.

2 cups?! a cup is like 200 grams. 400 grams of sugar. almost half a fucking kilogram of sugar into a regular pot of sauce. how does he not have diabetes already

I'm pretty sure he does, at least pre diabetic, but he doesn't go to see a doctor to validate it. Even when he has constant ear infections and you think he would eventually but does not. He's probably going to start having seizures from it in the next few years. I'd honestly be surprised if he didn't. But it'll help him beg for more money do to his mystery illness......
