Come back home, white man.

That's not a high bar to reach nowadays.
Both our statements are true. Games may suck nowadays, but Counterstrike is a timeless format, and no one has even come close to doing it better. Siege is gay, anything where you get hero ability bullshit sucks. There just isn’t any other shooter built out to be a competitive experience anymore. Maybe there never was.

It's amazing just how badly Valve bumblefucked CS2, it's one step forward and two steps back. Source 2, better visuals, better mechanics, but at the same time they didn't port a shitton of content from CS:GO, are overly fucking with how skins look like, which disrupts the reason CS:GO was such a great cash cow, don't have any form of anti-cheat or Overwatch so cheaters are rampant, and worst of all, they've rugpulled CS:GO and replaced it with CS2 to retain the CS:GO audience.

They've also shut down official CS:GO servers, so if you still want to play CS:GO, you'll have to choose the CS:GO beta, which isn't updated so the new skins won't work, and you can only play on community servers. No matchmaking, no ranking, it completely kills off the main CS:GO audience and only leaves the dedicated fans that remember that this is how it used to be with CS 1.6 and CS:S.

But still, the most baffling part is them fucking up the skins economy, where pattern bugs and actual visual deterioration were big factors for why some skins had a higher price, like that one texture that had a vagina looking pattern on the back of the pistol, or how battle scarred/well worn guns actually looked like shit, but now they look almost factory new. Hit up that fat autist in the balaclava from Malta that abuses his alcoholic elderly father if you need someone to tell you why you're shooting yourself in the fucking foot in the most excruciating detail.

Get your shit together Valve, your community is universally hating you for CS2, and you still glide on the good will you've built upon decades of not being shit, and here's a hint: if you start being shit now, that good will will inevitably run out. Do what you always did best, listen to the community and give the community what they want.

I agree with all of this. But I still don’t think a better FPS game exists, so I’ll keep playing.

It helps that I haven’t played CS since Source. If I actually played GO I’m sure I’d be upset too.

Its the next Overwatch 2 moment. Its hilarious that the people have finally woken up and that every modder's worst nightmare (credits to Zool Smith) has come true, with a broken community browser and lack of DECENT workshop tools. Even 3kliksphilip can't defend CS2 anymore given by the last video he made. Its like PAYDAY 3 all over again. Goes to show, you don't need wokeshit to ruin gaming, just bring in inexperienced and retarded devs to do the work for you.

Bruh, Tarkov sort of exists. Its less of a clownshow than CS2 at the moment. Also, old-school Quake and Unreal Tournament exists if you're into that.

Valve is a very horizontal company, which means that mismanagement of Counter-Strike 2/GO is hopefully not indicative of the company as a whole rotting away. Not surprising why they stopped doing games. It's risky business, and this is one of the reasons why.

There has always been skins that looked undamaged at all levels of wear. They are typically less saturated or have a different placement of icons.

For example since I know it’s older: AK 47 slate. I have a battle scarred that has been described as a locked gun. It is flat black with no saturation to bring out the actual color of the gun, where as a factory new has this sheen to it to make it look like you’re holding an actual gun instead of an incomplete asset.

If anything this promotes further marketering. You might not care that the iguana on your gun is in the wrong spot but some other autist will since they want “the best” the game has. It keeps the market available to normies. I’m not gonna buy a gun that costs 20.00 on the market but if you give me a field tested that just has the design in a funky location for 4.00 I might bite. The new case has that one M4 where the battle scarred gives it a bronze-gold finish which was actually more expensive than the factory new on release.

The biggest issue right now is that smokes and Molotovs have been redesigned so much while the maps are still sized for GOs play. One Molotov completely prevents access to banana on inferno and getting a smoke on it is too much of a hassle. In GO you could also tactically smoke the Molotov to leave site lines open by having it pop in a different spot. While the dynamic smoke is super cool it spreads way further. Most of the maps aren’t designed to handle that and it makes a Ts job very easy. I have a smoke on Mirage tha covers the site so bomb can just run into it and plant. Once you’re in the smoke you’re unkillable.

Come back home, white man.
I'd like to shamelessly bring attention to a very good CS 1.6 server which I adore, that's been running for almost a full decade now - "Awesome Cars + Fun Maps". It features all the classic fun add-ons you'd expect (roll the dice, runes, parachute, trails, teleport smokes, etc.) while also having a map pool of exclusively func_vehicle maps and other fun oriented places (most nipper maps are present). It has a very small community of regular players. The server is mostly empty nowadays, so I encourage my fellow Kiwis to get a few friends together and join to experience the definitive 1.6 golden era experience. :)

Tarkov sort of exists.
Never heard of it.

But seriously, I have 6.6k hours in Tarkov, and eventually you just can’t not notice how fucking awful the netcode is in EFT. Gunfights are pure RNG based on whose bullets decide to register as 3 hits instead of 1, or who the game will decide is actually dead 3 seconds after you’re both in cover. In terms of a PVP experience, it just ain’t it. And don’t get me started on cheaters, at least the cheaters in CS aren’t getting a slick Altyn outta me.

From where I am from, CSS servers still exists, same old dust2, with vanilla-based gameplay with no heavy mods (other than an anti-AFK warning).

Im guessing this applies to the Arena version as well. If so, then the absolute state of shooters is abysmal.

Arena will clearly demonstrate the netcode through its killcam. It’s horrific. You watch the killcam and you’re ten meters away from where you were on your screen, looking the other way. So sad, man. Hoping for Gray Zone Warfare to be worth a damn, but seeing the foid dev they have on full display doesn’t do much for my confidence levels. Some American company needs to just shamelessly rip off Tarkov and release it with a better netcode. Fuck the idiot Russians at BSG.

Yep. Valve already dropped the ball hard with TF2, and the CS:GO/CS2 team seems to be no better. And it's not that they've ruined it by DEI, but by sheer incompetence.

That's not at all what I was implying. Obviously Steam is holding up very well and their hardware division is killing it with the Deck, but the games division seems to be on fire. A lot of key people left in that post-Portal 2 draught when they were supposed to be working on Half-Life 2: Episode 3, the "do what you want" culture didn't work out, and they've managed to push out a good game, but for the sake of promoting the hardware that was Half-Life: Alyx, with some old guard like Greg Coomer still being on board. But clearly some of those gaming divisions are suffering badly. TF2 is being barely maintained by a single guy, now CS2 is falling apart, and it feels like Valve desperately needs some tard wrangling to be instituted.

So no, it's not that all of Valve is falling apart, but there are blatant sings of incompetence when it comes to the games division, and it's a warning sign that should be acknowledged by the higher ups in the company.

You forgot to mention that DOTA 2 is losing steam (heh) if the recent prize pool for the International is anything to go by.

It can't be that hard to moderate your games, can it? Valve bumbled into success in the competitive market twice and it's just been flop after flop trying to chase that high (Meet Your Match, whatever the fuck Artifact was, CS2)

I want them to go back to making multiplayer games that are fun first and foremost, and if they can't do that, then at least fix the old games. But no, they'd rather do whatever this is than even try to fix the bots in tf2.

From a money standpoint, all of Valve’s actions make more sense. Why would they bother to fix CS2? They reported over a billion in profit last year on cases. All Valve cares about is that the money keeps rolling in.

And honestly, as much as people mald (for good reason, I might add), the game still works and it is still very fun. The new engine feels nice to play on, the game performs well, and while I run into at least one cheater a day, it’s not as overblown as some people make it out to be, at least in low elo. After 25k premier, it’s HvH. But if you’re 25k premier and you don’t play faceit, you’re a dumb faggot anyways.

We're a good chunk into 2024 and CS2 still has less content for a casual player to play with than CS:GO did even 10 or so years ago. Why was the engine switch even necessary, again?
A psyop to make people to buy newer hardware thinking it will perform better because Source 2 is shit.
