Counter Strike

The update's not just devoid of any meaningful content, but the new case system is a new low for Valve to sink to. A flat 2.50 for a chance to open a cool skin is, while degenerate, a reasonable sell.
These new cases, on the other hand, are pure whale-bait. There's no point in opening them if you aren't prepared to drop hundreds of dollars on a single skin at this point. Even if you get lucky enough to pull a red, cool, now spend 500+ dollars to unlock it or you're shit out of luck and get nothing from it.
It's just the shit cherry on the shit cake Valve calls CS2. No meaningful content additions since launch, nor restoring content they gutted from GO. No Cache, no Cobble, on top of that they got rid of the old (good) pool of community maps and replaced them with total shit. If there isn't anything meaningful by the end of the year, I'm not sure CS2 will ever recover, aside from gambling addicts and no-life players.
This is just Valve's desperate attempt to skirt the lines of gambling. The accelerationist in me says " good, let Valve do this so that the economy crashes hard".

Their major update was their attempted transition to animgraph_2 movement but just like the WoT Crew 2.0 update, it caused a fuckton of issues and worst of all, it is fucking incomplete. They ante'd up VAC Live but the bot problem still persists.

tl;dr (from reddit) -
"If everyone buys the FT red skins for $40, their price will increase.

If no one buys the ST FN red skins for >$1000, their price will decrease until most people who get the offer buy them."

I don't know why people are acting like this wouldn't be the case. Valve has a entire marketplace so it makes sense they would know the supply and demand. Most covert stattrak factory new skins go for $600+. The Awp Printstream (Fever dreams covert) in statrak factory new has buy orders for $740. Don't like it, don't spend $600 on a skin.

No Cache, no Cobble
Cache was only purchased by Valve in the past few months, expecting them to fully recreate it in Source 2 in that time is retarded. Cobble will probably come after Cache.

This is true. I fucking despise when I get forced to play on the new maps. They run like shit and play terribly.

Like it or not Counter Strike has a huge fanbase that won't leave because every other competitive fps is "gay". For 2 years straight the game has maintained a average of 1.5 million players. Even taking into the account the rough estimate of 33% bots judging by the player counts hills and valleys, it still has 1 million active players.

Except FMPONE already remade the map in Source 2, then the same day he published it Valve contacted him to purchase the rights.

It isn't a port of the latest Source version either, it's built from the ground up in Source 2.

This is the unfortunate truth us CS players have to face. If the TF2 thread is of any indication, its the same here. Every other competitor that has tried to challenge CS is a regression in some form be it gimmicky additions (Spectre Divide), pay-to-win bullshit (Crossfire, Point Blank), abilities/balancing retardation (Rainbow Six: Siege, FAGLORANT) and a mix of either. Then there is the wokeshit (a disabled operator in R6, lesbian pairing in FAGLORANT) and constant censorship/policing of player chats.

Even I have to admit, I'd rather play CS at its lowest than play the other faggy alternatives. All I ask is simple mechanics and "see head click head" shooting gameplay than see whatever cocked up bullshit some other retard game company pulls out of their stinkditches.

September 27, 2025 marked two years since Counter-Strike 2 (the game formerly known as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) released and replaced a rich 11-year-old shooter that cemented itself in gaming history, now gone with the wind.

Well, it's still dogshit and I miss my bay everyday.

All Valve had to do was release it as a separate game like the previous titles, and I wouldn't have developed such a visceral hatred for it; I'm sick of my favorite online games getting irreversibly changed for the worse with no recourse to play the old versions. This doesn't happen to other forms of media, yet video games are free to be pissed on like activists to art. Despite how popular and mainstream gaming has become, it still has yet to be given the same level of respect.

...I sure do love my hobby.

You will never be a real update. You have no official content, you have no gameplay changes, you have no theme. You are an online shooter twisted by apathy and greed into a crude mockery of gaming perfection.

Transit has been mysteriously removed from the game after only 2 whole days on October 3.

It's speculated it was because of a Stray easter egg that would otherwise violate copyright law and the logic handler entity for it being named "nigga_cat," as well as some unverified possible crypto bullshit.

Two years in and CS2 is sharing the same fate as TF2, that's fucking grim. Valve has all resources in Deadlock and when it's finished it will also end up in the pit, sooner or later.

It's mind-blowing how good they are at running everything into the ground.

CS is kept afloat almost entirely by the skins market anyway, if we ever get a proper crackdown on lootboxes and gamba, the game is toast.

Apparently this is also an unconfirmed rumor but there is a reference to a Private Rusaian cheating software known for... having a Swastika crosshair.

For Anubis and Tuscan there's evidence Valve payed the creators of those maps $150k to purchase the intellectual rights of those maps.

I don't know if he'd be offered that much, or if Valve would want to purchase these likely temporary maps until it's decided they're going to be made permanent like Cache was. But you'd think that once Valve approached you to add your map to the game, you'd go back and clean up all this stupid shit that could compromise that.

The cat name is barely an issue and is an easy fix, everyone understands Valve would obviously not put that in the game unless it was an accident. They probably didn't know about the crypto stuff or the Russian cheats if it's only being talked about now, they obviously missed all that, if it's all even true.

I find it baffling they didn't notice the posters using the Stray cover art though. I've seen that EXACT picture a million times in marketing for Steam and companies like it. It's got to be the closest game to being the perfect marketing piece. There's no way none of the developers did not recognise it if they even just glanced at it, I don't care if they're fifty year old farts the posters are everywhere.

It just confirms they just use the most popular maps on the Workshop, let players be the play-testers, then keep the map if they see it plays well in their spreadsheets.

Artstyle. They butchered the artstyle from the soulful CSGO
I'm sorry but hell no.
CSGO did not have a soulful art style. It was pound for pound a generic copy/paste job of the 7th console gen's infatuation with brown/grey color palettes and "gritty" visuals that were everywhere until Fortnite dictated that the new predominant palette is oversaturated rainbow puke.

where you are playing differing factions of both CTs and Ts from various corners of the world.
Source and 1.6 did that better. The Arctic Avengers and Guerrilla Warfare (fuck it, even CZ's Midwest Militia too) have been sorely missed.

1.6 and Source had wonderful bot AI that were able to put up a challenge against you if you wanted to play offline.
Disagree. Botman made better AI bots than Valve's 1.6/CZ offerings which are brain dead even on "Expert" difficulty.
And CSS's bots straight up aimbot since that update that added Phong/HDR in 2006; the one before the Orange Box engine update.

Regular competitive still uses the garbage random rankup where you win 5 matches and you still remain at GN3, only to have 1 losing match and immediately you are demoted to GN2. How is this supposed to instill fun to a regular player?
You are only as good as you can hard-carry. If you can't carry yourself out of Gold Nova/Master Guardian/Legendary Eagle, there's a chance you're only where you are because you got lucky with your team matchups. I had a friend that whined about being stuck in Master Guardian yet was never making impact plays and heavily relied on their teammates being just as good or better than her in order to win. If you can carry a MG match, you will leave MG- simple as.

That said, ranks mean shit due to all the smurfs in silver/gold nova/MG and cheaters in LE+.

Counter-Strike was never really about being the most competitvely-skilled player. The comp scene in the days of WCG/CPL was tiny compared to the modding scene or mapping scene. Gun Game and Zombie Mod servers had tens of thousands of people playing at any time whereas ESEA had a few hundred people.
I know Valve likes to market CS as this pure-skill competitive shooter since 2013, but it was always a casual-heavy game. Valve knew this too; remember that GO was heavily promoted as being very modder friendly during it's beta and first year in 2012. It wasn't until they saw that no one was playing GO besides the TOs they bullied into supporting GO by dropping 1.6 and Source tournaments that they shifted focus and rebranded CS as what it is today (see the Arms Deal update).

FACEIT. Fuck this garbage service.
Agreed.

In the same year where Overwatch 2 became known for fumbling the ball for removing OW1 and replacing it with what it essentially a glorified beta-test, CS2 managed to get away from the same fate
To be fair and somewhat of a Devil's advocate, Valve did say they didn't want to port CS:GO to Source 2 because they knew that replicating GO's movement/shooting 100% accurately was virtually impossible (and Valve is not alone in this. It's extremely difficult, if at all possible, to get the same feel in two different game entries. Ask anyone who's played a remake in the last 20 years if it feels and plays like the original). But r/globaloffensive kept bitching for years that they wanted their new shiny game engine port because "Only DOTA gets all the love and support".

Meanwhile L4D2 chads continue to win. Never port L4D2, Gabe.

CS:S Asia shows nothing on the serverlists so pretty fucked.
I thought Asia only played CS Online 1 & 2 which is a stupidly weebified bastardization of CS 1.6 and Source.
Not counting the comp scene, of course.

Cache was only purchased by Valve in the past few months, expecting them to fully recreate it in Source 2 in that time is retarded. Cobble will probably come after Cache.
It's a fucking map.
This new standard of making multiplayer maps take years is absurd.
Goldeneye devs would still be working on multiplayer if they had the same work ethic, MacMan would still be beta testing de_dust2 after a 4 year hiatus following the release of de_cbble and a tease of de_chateau, and Valve would've released CSS with only 3 maps and only finished the official map list before Covid hit.

I hate this obsession with every map having to be "comp-perfect" and balanced so NiKo or Elige don't bitch about it on social media.
Give me de_airstrip, cs_siege, de_torn, de_sienna, cs_backalley, de_vegas, as_tundra, and all the other unbalanced yet fun maps (rip de_dust & de_aztec- fuck you, Valve) where people can have fun and not worry about a meaningless rank.
How I yearn for the days when 40-90 jobless manchildren didn't dictate the direction of my favorite shooter.

CS is kept afloat almost entirely by the skins market anyway, if we ever get a proper crackdown on lootboxes and gamba, the game is toast.
CS was very popular in the 00s despite skins being actual custom models/textures/sounds/animations being made by dedicated fans for free and not monetized retextures.
It didn't need GO's Arms Deal update to be successful. It didn't need ESL/Blast/PGL's hand up it's ass to be popular.
I'd wager that after Valve drops CS support should it ever stop being profitable, is the day CS is reborn and given the chance to return to what it was that made it so awesome to a generation of Gen-Xers and Millennials.

Edit: Despite everything negative I typed, I still liked GO and I still like CS2 simply because there is nothing better out there that scratches the itch. I'd sooner throw my hand into a meat grinder than play Valorant.

It's really a shame, because Transit's layout and the train running through the map looked really fun. We sorely need something a bit chaotic and unpredictable in casual counter-strike maps again. (free my niggas Militia and Assault) My guess is Valve will be more hesitant to pick straight from the workshop and instead opt to continue picking maps from the same handful of users on Mapcore. (Sound familiar?) I think 95% of the maps in the last update were all from Mapcore, which you can see the logo hidden on most maps.

The real solution is to get Valve to hire actual Level Designers for CS2 and make official maps again, but we don't live in a perfect world.

That will not happen. We live in a world where people unironically believe that kernel-anticheat is the solution to CS. Not to mention, if that ever happens, people will just jump ship to Valorant instead.

Then there is the modding community after the retarded faggotry Zool Smith did and if looking at the post-MYM state of the TF2 playerbase: filled with femboys, furries, faggots and trannies, then I don't think CS will recover from it. Ask DOTA players the same question, and you'll probably get the same answer.

The CS playerbase has been mostly chuddy to this day.
Last year when popular CS modder Millennia came out as trans, gamebanana went on a ban spree because a lot of people were mocking and lamenting such a talented guy drinking the estrogen kool-aid.

Valve recently released an update to CS2:

If you invest in skins, you're a fag and deserved to get scammed, you invest in cases not skins.

That being said, this gets me closer to a Classic Knife for my T loadout. Maybe an M9 for CT, either way. Minority fags gets the rope.
