It sucks though that, unless Valve acknowledges this soon or adds back matchmaking/anything else internet dependent, the hype will definitely die down.
CS 1.6 and Source still have active communities. Source, right now, has 16,000 people playing it. You can expect to see more than that for GO into the future. It will be fine.

Also Valve got too pussywhipped to include any real life inspired Terrorist factions again. Gotta have the generic Fortnite bad guys or else risk getting banned from Spain for including the Separatist faction in CS:GO.
I blame Spain. Russia would have gotten anal having the Phoenix Connexion being the bad guys but they didn't, neither the Middle East with the Leet Krew, Somalia with the Pirates or even some of the lefty states with the Anarchists. Only the faggot Spaniards who don't even play CS to begin with bitched and whined.

People being so fond for CS:GO and shitting on CS2 reminds me things never change.
1.6 and Source fans shat on GO for years.
1.6 shat on Source and CZ fans (they exist) through most of the 00s.
1.0-1.5 purists shat on 1.6 for years, mostly because Steam sucked and was a resource hog in it's early years.

They added another notice on the new CS:GO page:

Thanks Gabe, but I think most people know exactly what they're looking for here.

As a certified 1.6 enjoyer to this day, I shat on CS:GO until around 2014 when it started gaining traction and my friends started playing it. Most of the gripes I had with it were because of slight changes to the gameplay which until then hadn't changed for over a decade (changed up weapon selection, buy menu being rearranged and radial, no more dedicated "O" hotkey for equipment buy menu, game feeling like it's aiming at the console market during the first year after launch, etc.). The biggest negative change in my eyes was the obvious shift of focus from casual gameplay dominated by community servers to developer-run servers, going for a specific tailored experience and just overall focus on e-sports, which IMO is a complete antithesis for casual fun - Valve hiding away the community server browser further annoyed me in that regard.

So, in a way, if they really do end up just fixing up this last version of CS:GO to work with community servers, minus all the skins and matchmaking, this could potentially be the best version of CS:GO yet. Heck, even the cheater problem would be much less of an issue than on CS2, as community servers are usually much better at self-moderation, rather than trusting VAC to take swift action when it actually matters (also there's much less of an incentive to cheat when you can't flex your stats game-wide, because your accomplishments are contained within the server you're on, rather than carrying over to other servers).

CS Source is heavily botted right now due to Russians so the player count is probably quite a bit lower than that.
Interesting. For what purpose? I also just checked CS 1.6 and it has a ~10k player peak in the last 24 hours, is that one botted too?

i want the old arms race maps like monestary and the revolver too :( (guess it's just a case of no arms race/dm servers yet?)
is this some older version of csgo? not familiar with the history

Yes (For CS Source there's a community blacklist that's kept updated.)

What's even the point of doing such a thing? I noticed that the in-game browser has been fucked for years now, but I just can't wrap my head around as to why even bother doing such a thing. Luckily CS: CZ doesn't suffer from this because nobody cares for it, lol.

This looks like the most recent version of CSGO minus the live service stuff like matchmaking and inventories. Some maps were added and removed over time but you can still play them on a community server.

Yeah bro it's just like the other CS games bro, it's just your nostalgia bro; CS2 totally isn't an entry that did an unprecedented hostile takeover of CS:GO (leaving it not readily playable until now, CS2's worse sin) while after 2.5 years still having a content drought, no additional factions, a slow lackluster development, shot registration and visual feedback not being up-to-par, inconsistent unstable performance, more cheaters, an even bigger focus on e-sports and skins rather than the game itself, etc.

CS2 would be alright if it didn't literally replace CS:GO and had most of these issues ironed out by this point (remember, multi-billion dollar company), disregarding questionable decisions such as the new art direction. Simple as.

Yep. Things never change.

You already forgot the “hostile” takeover of CS that was GO in 2013 when Valve was doing their damnest to get every TO onboard and drop 1.6/Source tournaments and take the GO pill.

I like CS (even CZ), and have a soft spot for every entry in some way.
I loved Gun Game and Zombie Mod when they were niche.
I loved de_dust when it debuted and played it more than I ever played it’s sequel.
I loved the sado-masochistic grind that was the mid 10s road to global elite rank and then ESEA rank A.
I love that I stopped caring about competitive play following C9’s Boston win and went back to older games and played for fun again.

And in all those years there was, is, and will be people who will demonize the latest entry for reasons both valid and not.
That’s the whole point of my post. Calm down.

They literally brought it back. What else do you want? How is this not exactly like 1.6ers whining about Source simply existing at all circa 2004-09?
Lol, lmao even. Only after 2.5 years, unlisted under a new app ID with a somewhat broken client; while CS2 still has hostage of it's original app ID alongside everything associated with it such as reviews, game data, history, etc.

This did not happen to Source, CZ, or 1.6. All of them can be played normally as separate games unabated, you dumb gaslighting nigger.
