Cover songs you find as good (or better) than the original work.

Prefer the Butthole Surfers version of American Woman

Also prefer their version of Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man. I didn't even know that was a cover at first.

I typically don't like Motown covers but the Doobie Brothers Take Me in Your Arms cover is great.

Johnathan Young does some really good covers of anime themes sometimes. I like the cover of the One Punch Man theme he did.

RATM have done a lot of covers that I would say are better than the originals.... everyone else falls short when they try to cover a rage track though. (If anyone has any covers of Rage they think are better than the originals I'd love to see them)

Anti-Trump rap verse notwithstanding, I think the Denzel Curry cover version of Bulls on Parade, while maybe not "better" certainly lives up to the original.

For my suggestion:

The honky tonk upbeat original where the sound of the instruments and vocals do not match at all with the composition

The version they were trying to make in the first place

I agree. Actually probably the best effort I've seen. Feels genuine... a lot of the time when you watch a cover of Rage it just comes off as posing.
Honestly it's refreshing just to see someone cover something other than Killing in the Name haha.

Not normally big on country or bluegrass, but Dolly’s cover of Collective Soul’s “Shine” is pretty damn fine...

Skrewdriver's cover of "Road to Valhalla" is unironically better than the original by White Lion:

Peter Gabriel's version of My Body is a Cage is as good as the original, while being extremely different at the same time.

Also, this orchestral cover of the Undertale AU song Our Broken Constellations is legendary.

I usually really hate when people do EPIC orchestral or metal video game covers, but I've always really liked this take on Final Fantasy IX's theme song Melodies Of Life.

90s Erasure cover of Lay All Your Love On Me by ABBA. It's very different but similar enough and more than anything a lot of fun. I respect that they didn't gender swap the lyrics too.

Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) had a phase where she was covering a lot of 60s lounge songs and I think she did a good job. This one is her version of So Nice (Summer Samba).

If you prefer one version of this song over the other while in a certain country, you catch a voodoo curse. If you prefer one version of this song over the other while in another certain country, you catch a posh curse.

So, someone did a slowed down/orchestra cover of Papa Roach’s Last Resort. And I have to say, it’s fantastic.
