I am getting a lot of positive feedback for this thread being up. A lot of people can’t seem to find a discussion for this topic that is grounded in reasonable emotions, and that is frustrating for them. They have the entire World Wide Web at their fingertips, but can’t find a forum that seems grounded in reality.

That’s why I’m very happy to help make this an informative, funny and thoughtful topic. Please let me know if I can improve the OP by the way.

Update: Here is an introduction of all this from the perspective of one of the students who was there.
Hello Local 12 News. At the present time, I have an urgent request that truly is of the utmost importance, a request that supersedes my entire being and applies to the integrity of all Americans. You have probably seen or heard of the video of students wearing MAGA gear supposedly "harassing," "bothering," and "jeering at" a Native American veteran. This is not true and taken entirely out of context. I am a student at Covington Catholic and was present at the occurrence. Here is what truly happened:

Every year, my school attends the March for Life in DC and afterward tours the city. Our chaperones and teachers told us to be at the Lincoln Memorial at 5:30 to be ready for the buses to pick us up. 5:30 came around and we were all gathered at the Memorial. As we are an all-male school that loves to get hyped up (hence our cheer section's name, "Colonel Crazies"), and as we have done for years prior, we decided to do some cheers to pass time. In the midst of our cheers, we were approached by a group of adults led by Nathan Phillips, with Phillips beating his drum. They forced their way into the center of our group.

We initially thought this was a cultural display since he was beating along to our cheers, and so we clapped to the beat. He came to stand in front of one of my classmates who stood where he was, smiling and enjoying the experience. However, after multiple minutes of Mr. Phillips beating his drum directly in the face of my friend (mere centimeters from his nose), we became confused and started wondering what was happening. It was not until later that we discovered they would incriminate us as a publicity stunt. As a result, my friend faces expulsion for simply standing still and our entire school is being disparaged for a crime we did not commit. To reiterate, we did not partake in any physical or verbal abuse, did not chant "build the wall" or mock or anything of the like, and did not seek to incite violence.

After that initial occurrence, we were then verbally assaulted by four or five African-American men who called us "faggots" and berated one of our African-American students for being friends with us. The truth needs to come out. I pray that you read this and can speak for us who are silenced by the media. Here is video evidence of Nathan Phillips approaching the group of Covington Catholic students, showing that we did not approach him but he approached us(https://twitter.com/i/status/1086681831804674048); the later half of the occurrence showing Phillips' group inciting debates as well as harassment of the students by another group; and a second video of the harassment of students (https://twitter.com/i/status/1086796421226029056).

As you can see by these videos, the true story is quite different from that portrayed by the media. A great injustice has been done, and it is our duty to see that the truth prevails. Additionally, Mr. Phillips has a history of claiming racial harassment. I am by no means disparaging his credibility, but this should be taken note of.

"WASHINGTON, DC (WKYT) - A video that has been widely shared on social media has sparked outrage against a Northern Kentucky High School.

According to FOX 19, the video shows a student standing and smirking directly in front of a Native American as he drums and sings, while a larger group of students, some wearing clothing that appears to bear the insignia of Covington Catholic High School, surrounds the man, jeering and chanting.

Social media posts from people at the scene say the Native American man was participating in the Indigenous Peoples March.

Posts on Covington Catholic’s Instagram page shows students from the school were in Washington, DC at the time, participating in the March for Life. The school’s social media platforms have since been restricted.

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes voiced her disapproval of the behavior in a tweet reading, “As we prepare to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his work to ensure equality for all through nonviolent civil disobedience sadly still applies today. Kentucky, we are better than this.”

She has also released a statement calling on Covington Catholic High School to denounce the incident.

Covington Catholic has not issued a statement at this time."

Update:
They have barely lost any steam. Still trying to doxxxxx a bunch of high school kids, Lionizing Mr. Phillips, and another reference to deep-south Dixie days.

Not pictured, but if you guys use social media to bring up any counter-narrative about Phillips’ actions toward the kids, or the overreaction toward the kids in general, I’d be very careful. They are out for blood.

The principal, the teachers, the main few spotlighted boys smirking, they have all been named and targeted. The situation is approaching nuclear.

Sad thing is we'll never find out what WaPo was so afraid of having to give up in discovery.

I think it's more they were afraid of losing an Oberlin-sized judgment. And not just that. What would be worse would be the reputational hit. A "real" newspaper losing a huge libel verdict for something inarguably their own fault could kiss their reputation goodbye. They'd be fake news overnight, even more than they are now.

This part right here could've had far reaching consequences by itself. Imagine the floodgate that would've opened not just for WaPo, but the rest of the media.

They've had this coming for a long time, long enough it feels like they will never have to answer for all their lies. But it only takes a few well-placed rocks to start a landslide, and crazier things have happened in this year alone.

The Washington Post is the latest news organization to settle a defamation lawsuit launched by Covington Catholic High School student Nicholas Sandmann over its botched coverage of a viral confrontation with a Native American elder that had portrayed the Kentucky teen as the aggressor.

Sandmann announced the victory on Twitter.

"On 2/19/19, I filed $250M defamation lawsuit against Washington Post. Today, I turned 18 & WaPo settled my lawsuit. Thanks to @ToddMcMurtry & @LLinWood for their advocacy. Thanks to my family & millions of you who have stood your ground by supporting me. I still have more to do," Sandmann wrote on Friday.

This follows the multi-million dollar settlement CNN made with the teenager back in January.

Sandmann offered a not-so-subtle warning to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.

"We have settled with WAPO and CNN. The fight isn’t over. 2 down. 6 to go. Don’t hold your breath @jack," Sandmann tweeted.

Sandmann's attorney, Lin Wood, similarly wrote, "For our present to @N1ckSandmann to celebrate his 18th Birthday, @ToddMcMurtry & I gave Nicholas the gift of justice from . . . THE WASHINGTON POST #FightBack."

A spokesperson for The Washington Post told Fox News, "We are pleased that we have been able to reach a mutually agreeable resolution of the remaining claims in this lawsuit."

In March 2019, Sandmann's attorneys filed a suit against CNN for its coverage of the incident before all the facts had surfaced. The teen was seeking a whopping $800 million in damages from CNN, NBC and the Post.

Attorney Todd McMurtry previously told Fox News that lawsuits against “as many as 13 other defendants" would be filed.

Among them: ABC, CBS, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, NPR, Slate, The Hill, and Gannett which owns the Cincinnati Enquirer, as well as miscellaneous other small outfits, according to McMurtry. Separate lawsuits against the Washington Post and NBC have already been filed, he added.

Sandmann was swept up in a controversy after a video clip depicted the "MAGA" hat-wearing student smiling at Nathan Phillips beating a drum and singing a chant as he was surrounded by Sandmann's peers, who all had joined in on the chant in front of the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

However, several mainstream media outlets, including CNN and The Washington Post, portrayed the incident with Sandmann and the other teens as being racially charged before additional footage later showed that a group of Black Hebrew Israelites had provoked the confrontation, slinging racial slurs at the students as they were waiting for their bus following the March For Life event.

Footage then showed Phillips, who was in town for the Indigenous Peoples March, approaching the students amid the rising tension between the two groups.

Having two major defendants settle is a big help to Nick. Two precedents set. Two defendants that didn't want to get their asses kicked in court, so they settled. NOT good for defense lawyers. My guess - lawyers are advising their clients to settle with Nick now, because they will get raped at trial, especially if there's a jury.

Hope Nick ends up with a shitload of money. Hopefully the defendants had to pay his legal fees, or a pro-rated amount, as part of the settlement. Trust he will use the money wisely.
If I were Nick, I would use my new fortune to go Fred Phelps on Journalists©️. Cancel them and sue them to the stone age so their lies can't hurt anyone anymore.

WaPo is my personal Emmanuel Goldstein. I once subscribed to it just to shitpost in the comments; that's where I learned the sheer magnitude of liberals' joyless, vicious, miserable, spiteful, self-righteous, puritanical worldview.

I'm convinced that they would gladly haul me and everyone I love to the gas chambers. They cannot fathom anyone thinking, believing, voting, or living differently from them, in spite of their supposed love of diversity.

I will go on record saying I want bad things to happen to WaPo. Maybe not physically (though I wouldn't mourn that), but financially and organizationally. For the good of civilization, they need to be punished. They're too big to fold completely, but they need to hurt. They need a come-to-Jesus meeting for their lies.

Note, it's FoxNews but the mainstream media narrative, thanks to the settlements, is now that the coverage was wrong and fucked up. Nobody is standing up for these cunts except genuine tards.

I'm not so sure they feared discovery specifically. Sure some embarrassing things probably would have come out, but probably nothing disastrous other than maybe some internal admissions they'd fucked up that doom their defense. My thought is that they feared the ongoing headache and uncertainty. Once the case survived to discovery, odds were much better that it'd survive all the way to trial, and probably take years in the process. Years of having to pay their lawyers to deal with this thorn in their side, only to conclude with a gamble that they'd sufficiently covered their asses so that they wouldn't be held liable for a huge judgement for all the people who wanted to ruin or outright murder a bunch of kids for the crime of standing there and smiling. Follow by appeals regardless of who won.

It's much more certain to have your lawyers sit down with his lawyers, and find out the minimum settlement they'll accept to walk away and keep silent about the amount paid out; without you having to make a public apology or other public commitments either. You might pay a bit more than you would have if you'd kept fighting and won, but it's over and done with quicker and you can move on and forget about it. No one of consequence will really criticize you for settling either.

The problem is that 5 min of googling would have told you Chief Stolen Valor couldn't possibly have served in Vietnam because of his age and that he's a professional activist with a history of pulling this stunt.

He's a year too young to have deployed because he wasn't 18 until a year after the last combat troops left the country.

The media even tried to spin it after the fact claiming well he didnt' deploy but he served. Vietnam vet has a specific connontation in that community it means the person deployed in country. If you served but didn't deploy you're Vietnam era.

I'm usually not happy about people winning the lawsuit lottery, but this time I hope the pile of cash he got was big enough to ski down.
The "lawsuit lottery" is when people sue over anything and everything fishing for an out-of-court settlement. A grounded suit based on real damages is something entirely different.

I'll say it for you: everyone above the level of janitor at the Washington Post and almost every other "news" outlet needs their brains sprayed against a wall in order for this country to heal.

However, I will not commit or assist in said violence, and I strongly discourage anyone reading this from directly killing or harming anyone. Leave that to the CCP once America gets taken over and its ruling class purged, just like our journalist friends want.

But if some lunatic freaks out and Timothy McVeighs them, I just might do an extended dance number on my roof.

That’s right.
I remember one of my coworkers used to talk about how unfairly The Media treated him. I kind of glossed over the fact that, being a reporter, she worked in The Media.
It was honestly really uncomfortable to talk about because this kid is a prime example of backpfeifengesicht and this situation is one of those situations where it’s genuinely difficult to get any solid read on it.
The best part was where she said he won his lawsuit and I just quick-draw popped off with “He did not win, they settled out of court.”

And Bill Cosby was innocent! BOOM! Pwned her ass! Settlements are not indicative of wrongdoing...hey wait a minute!

That last paragraph is what pisses me off. Right-wing Qanon supporters are gonna say he won against the fake news when they settled, probably because the Post knew they could win, but it would likely cost more than to cut him a check to shut up.

WAPO just paid him to go away! WAPO's a gud boi dat dindu nuffin!

For me it goes back to the initial confrontation. He easily could have walked away, yet he choose to stand there, in a face to face stare down with someone.
Had Mr. Sandmann walked away initially, the situation would have been over, and none of us would have heard of it. But he choose to stay there. He may not have been responsible for starting it, but he easily could have ended it a lot earlier.

Yeah, the teenager needs to be the adult here, not the old Stolen Valor refrigerator repairman banging a drum in his face.

A high school student went through death threats, mass media attention, a lawsuit and now a settlement ... all for smiling and wearing a MAGA hat. And he's only 18.

How badly do you have to fuck up to try to ruin a kid's life? I swear.

See, the most disgusting thing about the whole affair is not that it was another hit piece manufactured by the media against someone who happened to support Trump, that's basically everything these days, it was just a teenager, and the media went all out on them, including the "throwing them in the wood chipper" tweet. Meanwhile, the same sort of people who consume that media also tend to think Kiwi Farms is some shadowy fringe hate site, yet KF never covers minors or actively advocates ruining people's lives. :punished:

They'd be fake news overnight, even more than they are now.
When have these imbeciles ever given a shit about their reputation in the first place? If they cared at all about how the public perceives them they wouldn't have published a good 75% of the garbage they've produced in the past five years.

I agree with the sentiment that they settled because they didn't want their dirty laundry aired out in public (which could lead to other lawsuits -- blood in the water, so to speak), not because they're worried about their reputation.

Despite all of this, the lie still carries more weight than the truth. Millions still believe the original fake report, and will never see the correction.

When they said he was a monster, when they set fire to his name... It doesn't matter where you hear it from, whether truth or lies, it gets said all the same.
