Ok then.
Side Note: Psychedelics have lasting and SEVERE consequences.

Onward:
Anybody got any creepy stories about mysteries in the woods? Kinda in the mood for one...

I found a story about a lifetime Appalachian Trail hiker who died by getting stuck in a blizzard. Not really creepy, just sad.
I will post later.

@My Earnest Opinions I've got a suggestion of my own: give swapping out your shrooms for some lithium a try. Psychedelics and other drugs have a nasty side effect of inducing permanent delusions and schizophrenia symptoms in many people, and you read like someone who has already got one foot hovering over the deep end. Drugs can be awesome, but like everything else in life, moderation is key.

Failing that, maybe try using basic punctuation and paragraphs when you post, and perhaps what you're saying will be more accessible to the autists trying to read it.

There was a creepy podcast story about non-human creatures that try to bait the Forestry/Park Service off the fire towers at night.
Have any idea what the name of the podcast is? Could use some more listening material for slow work days.

On the subject of missing hikers: it's thought that Israel Keyes had victims he found in national parks. He loved national parks and viewed them as hunting grounds. He only gave oblique hints about his unidentified victims, but some have identified this mother-daughter pair as possible victims. Whoever killed the hikers probably just picked them off with a rifle, and Keyes had often described watching people and aiming a rifle at them.

Their murder remains unsolved, as of today, but I can't imagine how creepy it would have been to be the people who discovered them: they had spoken to them earlier on the trail and found their bodies when they were wrapping up their hike. They had to walk back to the trail's base, carrying only an ice axe for protection.

Keyes said at least one parks victim had been found but had been misidentified as the victim of an accident. It's apparently not uncommon for the cause of death to be unclear-- you're found in a park, after an unspecified period of time, no witness, so it's easy to assume that it was a weird accident.

Reading about Keyes lurking like that has made me nervous about hiking. You never know who could be lurking like that, and you're so isolated. Very creepy stuff, and a tactical killer like Keyes knows exactly what they're doing when they hunt for prey.

Another hiker, Gilbert Gilman, disappeared in a different national park, and he's also considered a possible victim.

(Keyes creeps me out in general, but his isn't an unsolved case, except for all the unidentified victims.)

One of the most well known unsolved criminal cases in Germany is the murder of Günther Stoll, also called the YOGTZE case.

Günther Stoll (the victim) was an unemployed food engineer apparently suffering from bouts of paranoia. He frequently mention "Them" to his wife, a unknown group of people who wanted to harm him.
On the 25th October 1984, after again mentioning "Them" to his wife, he would scribble the letters YOGTZE on a note, proclaiming afterwards that he was "now seeing the light".

Later that evening he would drive to his favorite pub. While drinking a beer he suddenly lost consciousness, fell off his bar stool and injured his face.
After regaining consciousness he left the bar. What he did for the next two hours is completely unknown.
It is know around 1am. Next time he is seen it's in his old hometown where he insists on talking to an old women living near his parents house.
He tells her that "a terrible event is going to happen tonight". Due to it being very late she tells him to talk to his parents living next door if it is urgent.
Instead he drives off, disappearing again for two nearly two hours.

At 3am, two hours later, two truck drivers see Stoll's car crashed over 100km away from his hometown in a ditch next to Autobahn A45.
Both report seeing a injured person in a jacket walking around the car.

When police and emergency services reach the vehicle the only occupant is the injured, naked and still conscious Stoll. The last thing he can relay is that there were four other people in the car and that "they were not his friends".
He later died on the way to the hospital after suffering from considerable internal injuries consistent with either being hit by or being driven over by a car.

Neither the people in the car or the person in the jacket has ever been identified.
Two plausible cases as to what YOGTZE means have been forwarded after the case being publicized on German TV:

Amateur radio operators have noted that a station in Communist Romania used YO6TZE as it's callsign.

The other is that YOGTZE represents a early 80s NATO emergency code signifying the retreat of British and Canadian troops as well as American Army Intelligence personnel from Germany:
Y - Germany
0 - retreat
GTZ - Gulf Tango Zulu - Area of Operations to be given up
E - evacuation

Police consider this a cold case unless to quote an police officer "one of the people involved walks into a police station and spills the beans".

In contrast, here is a nearly unknown case: The disappeared 17th victim of the Erfurt school shooting.

The tl;dr of the official version: On April 26th 2002, during the exam period, an expelled ex-student enters the Gutenberggymnasium and proceeds to shoot 17 people (mostly teachers) before committing suicide.
On that day the official death toll is 18, 17 victims and 1 perpetrator. (e.g. this BBC article)
A day later it would be corrected down to 16 victims.

The explanation? Well, during a press conference the Prime Minister of Thuringia explained that an heavily injured teacher was counted among the casualties but had pulled through in hospital.

Except that never happend. The only person still in the hospital was a female student who had been wounded by a stray bullet when somebody fired blindly through the classroom door. Every single other injured person died in the school, largely because the police had cordoned off the building until afternoon and prevented paramedics from reaching or evacuating people.

Anybody who followed that case was left scratching their heads. Until..
Over four years later, after failed lawsuits and a final report essentially absolving the police of any wrongdoing, a investigative journalist published an article.
In it, he claimed to have received both documents and witness reports from a whistleblower describing an 17th corpse being found. It belonged to an unidentified woman apparently in her mid-20s.

And what came of this bombshell revelation? Nothing. The mantle of silence was spread over the whole event.

I should really do a full write up about the event, it's insane how hard it glows in the dark

The Tromp family case was something that always fascinated me and left me with a lot of questions on what happened to all of them to go absolutely insane in one road trip, and it's more weird considering that all of the family members are alive (as far as I know, because the case is from 2016). This is a wealthy family we're talking about, it's important to keep that in mind.

One morning of August, the father comes home and in one fell swoop, tells the entire family that they need to get out of the house and flee far away, no reasons given, they just had to flee from the house as fast as possible heading to the north side of Australia. He and his wife Jacoba, with his two daughters and son fled the place. The police, later called to the home to investigate, found passports, credit cards and mobile phones had been left behind. This was to be a cash-only, "off the grid" road trip, with no way of being followed.

It was later revealed Mark and Jacoba had been suffering increasing signs of stress and paranoia. According to media reports, at least one of them had become convinced someone was out to kill them, and take their money, probably Mark. The only phone who was not discarded was the phone of the son, who had it in secret during the trip, and when the father found out about this, some 30km away from home, they made him throw his phone out of the car window. They were apparently convinced it was being used to track them.

And then he left his son in the road and the family continue the escape, he was later the first one to be found by the police, as he left the family when he couldn't tolerate his parents lunacy. Then later the sisters abandoned the parents, and they stole a car and drove south to a town called Goulbourn, to announce their parents disappearance. In Goulburn, Riana and Ella decided to part ways at a petrol station, with Ella saying she wanted to go home to feed her horses. She became the first Tromp to be located when she arrived back at the family farm on Tuesday night and found the police there. Mitchell would arrive home the following morning, having taken a series of trains.

Mitchell and Ella were probably the only ones who are currently mentally unaffected by the incident, but for Riana was a different story. Since she was later found in the back of a utility vehicle, the male driver found her after a one hour trip, the most strange thing about it is that he found her in a catatonic state, saying that she didn't remembered her name or where she was. She was put into a mental ward after the incident. Ella was charged for car theft.

Mark and Jacoba drove back toward Melbourne from the Jenolan Caves. A day later on Wednesday, 600km south in the Victorian town of Wangaratta, they too became separated. Jacoba headed north again, by means which are still a mystery, and was found the next day 350km away in Yass, wandering in an agitated state. She was taken to a hospital there, and later moved to Goulburn to be with daughter Riana, as the pair continued mental health treatment. She was also in catatonic state and suffered psychological trauma, and it is said that she is in a worse mental state than her daughter.

The last member, the one who originated all of this chaos, Mark Tromp, was found near an airport, probably with the intention of escaping the country, flipping off the photographers who appeared in the scene when he was taken away by the police.

After all of this incident, he later released a statement, making a public apology to all who got involved in the deranged road trip and also told the Australian media to leave the family alone. He gave absolutely zero explanations on why he drove the family away from home and try to flee the country.

During this trip, all of the family went insane with the exception of two, what happened to them during the trip? From who or what they were escaping from? The reasons might never be known.

I dunno if you want to do a write up here or somewhere else like /r/UnresolvedMysteries where it might get more "mainstream" attention but this is really intriguing and weird and deserves some attention. I've never even heard of this shooting and with 17 victims that's crazy.

JonBenet....I still maintain the brother killed her accidentally and Patsy helped cover it up. But the police contaminated and botched the crime scene so badly...

Still no idea where Kristin smarts remains are. Could be in the sea all we know. But it is known her body was on his dorm bed and under his parents house iirc (?)

I think the brother is what set it off, but I think it was the father who dealt the killing the blow.

I think the father was sexually abusing both of them, and Burke hit her with the flashlight after she ate some of his pineapple, and the father, realizing she wasn't actually dead, strangled her to death to cover up the abuse.

Try to bait them to come down and into the woods.
There is 100% weird shit in the woods and in the desert. Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant, or thinks it's either "supernatural shit or nothing".
It's not. There are completely mundane things out there that are still dangerous and confusing.

This is exactly the kind of shit I mean.
Take the "white people" of Southern California. It's a weird fucking area. Why would it NOT attract weirdos/a cult/whatever-the-fuck-they-are? You can't just tell all the people who saw them "You were hallucinating, there's no such thing as ghosts."
The people who have seen the "white people" don't say it's ghosts. It's just reports of people in white clothing stalking them at a distance or stealing their shit while camping. That's a completely human phenomenon.

This says "627,906". It's upside-down.

I have never heard of this, and all the searches I've run just come back with CRT. Do you have further details? I'm always interested in weird shit.
Only shit I can probably find online is gonna be 4chan /x/ or /out/ posts. I heard of them originally myself from someone who saw them while hiking around the Mojave.
In his story he saw two of them and assumed they were a man and a woman. Both were wearing white clothes (I think it's probably sun-bleaching, honestly) and kept their distance, but they appeared to be tracking or following him while he was out there.

Yet another reason I will continue carrying a rifle when I travel deep in the woods. Regardless of what language you speak, having a rifle pointed at you is a universal sign.

Was confused by calling them spoopy crackers white people at first, but this sounds like a couple weird stories I've heard about Mt. Shasta. Allegedly the natives were all "stay away from the mountain, theres bad things living there". You have standard Missing 411 stuff in the area but also people have mentioned encounters with tall people in white robes. Almost like the Nordic ETs reported by some UFO abductees

There it is again. I've heard the white robes thing, too.
The image it conjures up is obviously something clean, right? But if you think about it, sunbleaching might be why things are that color.
Youd think, but at least in the case of Mt. Shasta, these people/beings are allegedly living in or under the mountain. Theres also people who went missing and were recovered claiming they first remember being in a cave or were taken to a cave that they escaped into the woods from and were found
